Second time here, west of downtown St. Louis in Clayton. We really like this hotel, it gives us easy access to where we want to go. I have talked to a couple of employees here 15+ years, that says a lot. Both commented about continued improvements/maintenance over the years. It's nice. The entry/lobby gives a sense of elegance with the chandeliers and the stone floor. The people at the front desk have always been friendly and helpful. The rooms have been clean. Like the showers with digital heat control. There are multiple restaurants within easy walking distance as well as one in the hotel(breakfast only I think). Breakfast at the internal restaurant is included. The only potential downside is parking. They share the garage with a business building. You enter the hotel from the third floor. Only stairs avl for the hotel, so if you arrive at the wrong time, you may be hoofing it up or down to the third floor. Handicap parking is available. The price is very reasonable. We will continue to return. read more

We enjoyed our stay here. The bed was comfy and we had a lot of pillows and blankets. The room seemed clean. The shower was pretty cool and had good temperature and water pressure. Room service is by request only, and every employee we encountered was great. The parking situation was easy and convenient. Our stay was quiet and nice. I'd go to this hotel again. I stayed here for 4 nights while visiting family in St Louis and really loved it. The bed was so comfortable. The maid service was awesome. Great air condition ( a must in St Louis in the summer). The TV and WIFI were great. Easy check in-check out. The breakfast was awesome and a must to not sleep in and miss. We had great service every day by Alishia ( I hope I spelled her name right). She was awesome and went above and beyond. The bar happy hour was fun during the week and by adding weekends more people would be there. The TV's with sports coverage were great as was the bartender. Pretty nice hotel overall. Front desk staff was very helpful at check-in. The only inconvenience is parking on the 5th floor then having to take an elevator back to the lobby only to get on another elevator to go to the 8th floor to our room. Parking however was free to guests and that was a plus considering so many other hotels in the area charged a high rate to park. Room was clean and comfortable, but could not figure out why there were these huge plastic tags on the pillows, felt very intrusive. They could upgrade their toilet paper and Kleenex way too rough. Spent $300 on the jacuzzi suite only to have the jacuzzi not function properly and a dingy smell right as you walked into the room. They did send up maintenance who was unable to fix it and literally said "sorry, nothing else I can do". There was no offer to change to another room, no offer of a discount on the room paid for. I have read the reviews complimenting the breakfast, while this was better than average, it failed to make up for the quality of the room is any way. Will not be returning. read more

So I just arrived here about two hours ago. Whenever we go to hotels, I am prepared to have to clean it myself and use my own bed sheets. BUT CLAYTON PLAZA HAS RESTORED MY HOPE IN HOTEL STAYS!! The reservation lady was very pleasant and issued my keys quickly.I wish I would have taken pictures of the room before we plopped down, but the room is extremely clean and ZERO carpet! I can breathe because it doesn't smell moldy, and nobody's stringy hair throughout the shower or pillows.I was happy to find that they have a no smoking policy. Man. I'm super excited also because the price was only $130 per night although the location is in Clayton, MO. There is free garaged parking and complementary breakfast. I'm not sure what group this hotel belongs to, but I will find out and join their rewards program. read more

At the top of the list of what made this a good stay for me were Managers Shayna, Tiara, and Desk Clerk Amaya. All three worked over and beyond to solve booking problems that occurred because I needed to cut my trip short. I can't thank them enough. Secondly, the room was really nice, with a comfortable bed. The only issue was the heating unit. I couldn't stop the cold air blowing out toward the bed. Placing the desk chair in front blocked the blowing air, so I waited to report the problem when I checked out. The location is great for restaurants. I experienced my first Imo Pizza order (good Spaghetti & Meatballs, biggest Boneless Wings and House Salad I ever had. Ended up with a total of 5-6 on-the-road meals over 3 days.) read more

I stayed at the Clayton Plaza. This place definitely used to be elegant - large lobby and multiple towers, but today it's pretty rundown. Brown, broken ceiling tiles, malfunctioning elevators and dated rooms. My room was clean, but the TV was janky and the shower head was loose. Clayton doesn't do daily housekeeping as of September 2023. I arrived at noon to an empty hotel and they wanted an extra $40 to get me a room. Ugh. Upon arriving to the room, the cover of the air conditioning unit fell right off. The next day my son got sick off their breakfast and was throwing up all day. I was at reception where a tattooed guy was too busy on his phone to know that there was a line of customers waiting. I finally asked for a new set of bedding but they said they would send it up and I'd have to do it myself. Is this an Air BnB or a hotel that I'm spending over $500 on? Stay far away. This was a weird hotel. Really pretty and looks like it was built a long time ago. Beautiful woodwork, piano in the lobby. I'd love to know some history on this place. It has a few weird hallways but I liked that the garage was attached to the hotel. Super friendly staff. Was is s great location for us. Pool was busy and looked a little yucky. Game room on site but nothing worked and the sauna was old looking and took a long time to heat up. We enjoyed our stay and our room was nice and clean. Would definitely stay again read more

The hotel was beautiful and we stayed on the executive floor. The room had two full size beds, microwave, refrigerator separate shower and bath beautiful hardwood floors. The problem started when my husband reached for a mug to make coffee and the mug was dirty. The second issue was we were in a room for three people that had sets of towels for two. The third issue was after using the shower it was Dripping all night long. However we did get small appetizer and drink coupons for each night we were there. As well as daily buffet breakfast. Little did we know the day of the 7th we had no water. A main burst and we had no water to drink, brush our teeth or bath. When I discussed my displeasure from lack of water to the front desk they gave us a key to use hotel room 1028 which was a room that had water. Each of my family member had to take turns using the hotel bathroom as well as we were told we needed to turn the key back immediately after as there were 40 other guest waiting to use the same hotel room to shower. To make matters worse there was no drinking water... I have to find a hotel attendant who took pity on me and took me to the basement of their area that actually had water to fill my bottles as well as restrooms that I could use. This is unacceptable we were not offered a refund a credit a coupon nothing. This is extremely poor customer service and I would never return to this establishment. Very disappointed! read more

This is a hard hotel to rate simply because it's one of the strangest hotels I've ever stayed at, but while swimming, I found myself with the perfect metaphor for my experience here: on the side of the hotel is gorgeous brickwork, two soaring arched windows and beautiful inside lighting. As I was admiring this, I noticed the hideous steel beams beside me (an eyesore) and beneath them, dripping water is slowly filling a bucket in the lobby. This is the Clayton Plaza Hotel. It's very confused. The lobby is posh, but outdated. The chandeliers are pretty and sit above the most random decor you could ever think of. (Blue feathers in weird jars? Check. A weird print out of the wait times at the restaurant on a dry erase sheet? Check.) There is a grand staircase covered by terrible carpet. Oak doors next to a dark metal walkway. Wallpaper EVERYWHERE, on every possible surface. Horrific carpet, lovely lamps. Gone with the Wind Curtains next to Walmart microwaves. Antique furniture next to Pier One chairs? Yes, yes, yes. This hotel is a rich woman who let her gawdy friend dress her. It's all so confusing. Free breakfast is nice, but the restaurant needs a major overhaul as it has a straight-up 90's lounge vibe. Our room is fine, it's FINE (the beds are comfy at least), but the showers have very little water pressure and the controls are somehow the opposite of intuitive (Hot means cold, red means chilly, turn it all the way around to get started, move backwards to make it hotter.) The staff, however, is five star worthy: each one has been super helpful, kind and good at explaining what needs to be done (like the complicated parking situation.) The restaurant staff is stellar and so friendly, the front desk is as well, and even our maitenence guy who came to change a bulb was helpful and polite. The POOL is another story. We booked this hotel solely for the pool since we have a little one who needs to get his energy out every day. The pool is very gross. It's downstairs in this strange room that will remind you of the weird youth centers of the 80's. It reeks like mildew and chlorine, which was so heavy in the water that it gave me a rash after my first swim. The inside pool section is nasty - you won't want to be in it as it's full of dead bugs. The outdoor section is far better, but quite small. Of everything in the hotel, this needs the updated the most; it's just GROSS. We all felt like we needed a shower afterwards - the water and the room just didn't seem clean. (Also, the old game center next to the pool seems like it hasn't been cleaned or vacuumed since the 80's. DO NOT ENTER.) As for the location, it is perfect. Literally. It's an easy walk away from some of the best restaurants in Clayton, it's close to Forest Park and any downtown business in Clayton. You truly can't beat the location and the parking. Basically, this is a hotel that has nothing but potential. It has the location, it has the bones, but it needs someone with just a little bit of vision to take it to a four-star level. Like, buy some new pillows! Take down the wallpaper! Put in hardwood floors!! AND FOR GOD'S SAKE, DEMOLISH THE POOL AND START OVER. read more

Once upon a time, the Clayton Plaza was likely a grand hotel. Those times have passed, though. The day I arrived, the ceiling had collapsed from the weight of snow, and I was greeted with a hole in the ceiling. It set the tone a little bit. Clayton Plaza needs a little love. My room had a little bit of a sadness to it. It was very large with high ceilings, but it was poorly lit and the furnishings felt sparse, leaving a large, dark corner of the room. The laminate-wood floors were intended to keep the place cleaner, but I can see how those would contribute to noise. Fortunately, my room was at the end of the hall, so there wasn't too much noise. I stayed for two nights, and I did not receive housekeeping, but I am not sure why. Fortunately, I didn't require additional towels or anything, but it was unusual to receive no housekeeping without being notified of such. There are great, bright points to this hotel, though. The staff is so warm and welcoming. In particular, I was impressed by the friendliness of the restaurant staff. I enjoyed the free breakfast - complete with made-to-order omelets and waffles - and everyone was smiling and helpful. I also had an evening drink at the bar, and the staff really brought the Midwestern friendliness. This is not a bad option, but the photos belie the reality of the current state of the hotel. I think it is probably due for a little face lift, and I think it will be back to where it once was. read more

Good complimentary breakfast. Why only two stars? The absolutely awful desk staff. Rude, unhelpful, unable to adequately explain how to get from the parking garage to the room. Desk employee Bailey should be removed from guest-facing roles and assigned to an office in the back of the property. Her behavior was condescending and annoyed. I'm embarrassed for her. I have to give this hotel a solid 4/5 stars. I stayed in the Executive Suite for a staycation this week. I'll try to keep this as brief as possible. The Executive King Suite has a wet bar in the room, mini fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, Cable TV (with a TON of channels), and a whirlpool, heart-shaped, Jacuzzi tub in the actual room. The bathroom has a walk-in shower, and a separate bathtub. The bathroom is all marble which looks really nice. My room was very clean, but the carpet was dingy from wear. The furniture is old but not bad. The room is so massive that it was very dimly lit even with all of the light fixtures it had. There were very large windows that lined the entire wall of the room though which could accommodate for that during the daytime. The Pros: The hotel features a free breakfast buffet which is awesome! It comes with made-to-order omelets and Belgium waffles as well. The hotel is really nice with its marble and wood accents, and huge, lovely crystal chandeliers throughout the hotel. All of the staff of the hotel were very friendly. Every person with the staff that I encountered during my short stay were nice. There's also a free parking garage for guests here which is awesome. The location is great, right in downtown Clayton, in walking distance of a lot of great bars and restaurants. Now here are the cons.... 1. My bed was horribly uncomfortable. I had gotten out kinks from my back by using the Jacuzzi tub, but then the next morning, they had all come back because of the bed! It could be just the way that I sleep, but although the king size bed was huge, it was too firm for my liking. I felt like the princess and the pea. smh 2. I had put the do not disturb sign on my door knob, which at this hotel they let you specify what time the housekeeping staff should come clean your room. I put that on my door and they still knocked on the door, prior to the time I specified and before check-out time (12 noon). That was annoying. 3. I kept hearing weird noises all night from the ventilation system. It was odd and a little creepy. Old pipes I guess? I don't know. 4. The clock/alarm clock in the room was set with the wrong time. It was about 15 minutes fast which is odd. I don't know if that was done from the previous guest or not, but that was kind of weird. 5. The elevators. There are two sets of elevators here, one that went to my section of the 3rd floor, and the other set did not. That was confusing. Of course over time, guests would understand which goes to where but that was difficult at first and I wasn't told about that from the front desk staff when I first checked in. So I got turned around when I was first trying to find my room. Still nonetheless, the pros outweigh the cons here. I would come back and stay again, but I hope that the bed is more comfortable the next time. Had it not been for that bed, I think I would've given this place a 5/5. The Executive Suite is also a great room for couples celebrating a romantic weekend, or even for a hotel party. It was huge! read more

Stayed here for a couple of nights and mostly enjoyed myself. A few points: 1) My key card for my room randomly stopped working after a few hours, so I had to get it replaced. Not a huge deal, but kind of annoying. I heard other people in our group were having similar issues. 2) Breakfast in the hotel was OK but not great. A lot of the standard staples (pancakes, sausage, etc.) done adequately. 3) I got lost my first time walking to my room, but I think that's more on me than on the hotel :) 4) The room itself was definitely quite nice (large, comfy bed) and, in general, the hotel seemed well taken care of. Overall, I would definitely stay here again if I was in Clayton. read more

This hotel is the perfect example of "Don't Judge a Book by Its Cover", but in a negative way. When we walked into the hotel, the lobby was beautiful. Nice chandeliers and great customer service. I was surprised that this hotel was actually 3 stars because it look like 4 stars and up. Then I walked up to my room and then that's when things got bad. Here is my breakdown of my hotel experience. Pros: - Free self parking - Free breakfast buffet - Free wifi (even though it didn't work for me) - Nice lobby area Cons: - The floors with the rooms are ancient looking. Ugly carpeting and the hallways smell terrible. - The rooms were small and ancient as well. - The bathroom was dirty! We found cheez-its on the bathroom floor. - To access the parking garage, you have to go through the second floor then walk down the stairs to the first floor lobby and then go through the silver elevators. You can't access it through the second floor. I got this hotel through priceline so I'm not super surprised by the appearance. They did a very good job of decorating the lobby because that is where the first impressions come in. I would probably stay here again if I needed to be close to the Galleria, but that's about it. You walk in and the lobby is beautiful! That's where it ends. This place is needed a lot of TLC. We booked two suites. We were told they didn't have any attached rooms so we were on opposite sides of the hall. Fine. But one room was half the size and no bathtub. When you have small children this is a problem. I asked to be moved to a different room and was told no, they were "all booked up for the weekend" which was BS, there were still rooms available to book online but I just let it go. The room itself was filthy. They bed sheets were not changed and had stains all over it. Went to get ice and found a used bag with water in it tied with someone's hair tie. Really gross. Went down to the pool and was immediately grossed out. Everything was so dirty (dirt all over an indoor pool), no towels and cloudy water. The staff was overall polite and the breakfast was okay. Wouldn't recommend this hotel in the state it's currently in. read more

From housekeeping to front desk service they are outstanding. 4 women in particular that made myself and my 93 year old client felt at home. Miss Pat is a very outstanding front desk personality. We got an executive king suite with a jetted tub. Good size. Comfy bed. No blow dryer. Never been to a hotel that doesn't have a blow dryer. We waited an hour and a half for our room to be finished. So be prepared for a later check in. I'm assuming short staffed since every place is right now. Overall it's a decent hotel. Little outdated. The parking garage kinda sucks and the fact that the ice and vending machines are on the 2nd level kinda sucks. But minor inconveniences. read more

Asked for a quiet spot days ahead because I'm sensitive to noise and they said it would be no problem. They gave me a room facing the pool which is open til 11pm !!! Kids were playing in it til late and Even though I wore earplugs, i could hear the noise. Kept me up. The phone in the room didn't work so I couldn't call the concierge. The beds are super uncomfortable (you sink in so good luck to your backs). They are also unusually high. I am thankful for the staff who worked the free breakfast buffet. read more

I recently stayed at the Clayton Plaza Hotel in Clayton, MO. Convenient location to all of Clayton and walking distance to Wash U on a nice day. Staff is friendly and Covid safeguards are in place. There is complimentary breakfast which I did not try. When I checked in on Friday they let me knew rooms get cleaned every other day but if I asked before 11AM I could get my room cleaned. I'm fine vacating room to get clean sheets and fresh towels top prevent cleaning staff. from having contact. So on Saturday I asked for a room cleaning and new towels. I went out and when I got back I had neither. I went to front desk and no one was around. This irritated me. Who wants the same towel Friday-sunday in a hotel? This is why they get three rather than 4 stars. Would I stay here again? Yes for the price and convenience and clean room when I checked in. Hopefully next time I'm here normal cleaning will resume and I'd 4 star this place. I will say shower was modern and digitally programmed which I really liked. My room was clean (except for a piece of soap left from the previous guest in the shower), the bed was comfortable but the walls were paper thin. I could hear the neighbor's tv and laughters late into the night. Also, I tried to take the stairs to try to get to the lobby but it turned out to be one of the kitchen side entrance for staff. There should be a sign saying no access to lobby... It seems to be the theme in this hotel where certain elevator and certain staircase can only take you to X floor or to a specific area of a floor. My wife and I came here for a friend's wedding and decided to turn our trip into a mini vacation. The Clayton Plaza Hotel was a wonderful place to stay. First off - MOST. COMFORTABLE. BED. EVER. Whatever you need that bed for (*wink*), it will be spacious - king size! - and comfortable. Perfectly balanced between firm and soft. Second - all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet. And not just muffins and coffee. I'm talking an omelet station, belgian waffles, numerous sides, the whole works. My wife and I would get so full that we rarely had room for lunch (and c'mon, we're foodies who write Yelp reviews, you know we didn't intend to miss out on lunch!). On the plus side, we were able to complete our vacation significantly under budget. They also have a great indoor/outdoor pool setup. The hotel's only about 2 blocks from the subway (which is very easy to navigate), so you can get downtown rather quickly. I honestly don't know when I'll be back in the area, but this will be at the top of my list for lodging when I do. Highly recommended. read more

The entire staff at The Clayton Plaza Hotel is so friendly and accommodating. Max, in particular, greeted us warmly, showed us to the appropriate elevator, made sure we understood where to park and how to validate our parking. Above all though, Max personalized our trip by shuttling us to the music venue and highlighting the best spots to eat! As someone loyal to the Hilton brand I was initially skeptical of staying at the Crowne Plaza (IHG). The skepticism was undeserved as the Crowne provided a solid 4 star experience for our conference. Pros: On-site restaurant and bar with happy hour. (Breakfast buffet with made to order omlets made for a hearty breakfast) Up to date amenities including: LG flat screens w/ HD, mini fridge and microwave, safe, and desk.
