    Brisket "pizza"
    Kev H.

I really wanted to support this business and leave a positive review, but our experience today was far from ideal. First, they did not have brisket due to an issue with the meat they had prepared, or so we were told. When we pivoted to ribs instead, their ribs required about a 30-minute wait. We waited, but then there were not enough ribs available, so we had to choose another meat option and went with sausages. We ordered a tray described as "enough for three people," but it contained only three ribs and about ten pieces of sausages. The rest were sides, and the rolls included were just a couple of store-bought King's Hawaiian buns. The only saving grace was the flavor was pretty good. Later, they offered a brisket pizza which they said they could make with the little amount of brisket that they had. We kept an open mind and went with it, but it was underwhelming as it was essentially a dense flatbread topped with BBQ sauce, cheese, and a few brisket shreds. Again, I really want to support local businesses, but I also expect decent quality and portion sizes. Unfortunately, this visit fell short on both fronts. This business needs improvements to meet basic expectations.

Brisket pulled pork combo is off the hook. Sides are excellent as well. Definitely need to try this place!!!! The service is even better than the food!

My 10oz top sirloin was listed in the menu as $24.95, but was $25.95 on my receipt. They also added a $4 "beef surcharge" on top of that. They do have a sign posted when you come in that there will be a surcharge, but they don't say how much on that sign or the menu. So, my mediocre steak was $30. I should've just gotten a 12oz steak from the grocery store that's $30/lb and gotten two extra ounces. Mozzarella sticks were just store-bought frozen ones - nothing to write home about. Mac N Cheese was bad, and was an up-charge side for my steak that comes with a side for another $3. Texas toast was just griddled burger bun. My salad came with beets tho, so that was nice, I guess? Ambiance was essentially a greasy spoon vibe with open kitchen, was likely an American diner before. One or two TVs with sports by the bar seating. I've been trying spots around here since moving to the area, and I'll mark this one off as a "no thank you." I wish I would've gotten the ribs to give them a try, but the special steak lured me in and was a swing and a miss. I can eat a lot better for $45 elsewhere.

The menu has so many good sounding choices so it was hard to decide what to try for my first visit. I settled on the smothered pork chops meal and my friend decided to go with a conservative choice of a fried chicken meal. We placed our order and sat at one of the outside tables. One of the workers came out and gave us a Hot Link slider with french fries sample. The Hot Link slider was delicious and the fries were prepared the way excellent fries are made. The fries tasted like the ones that you quick fry, remove and then fry again. They were tender, great seasoning and a nice fried crunch. We both loved the sample more than our lunches The chicken came with two pieces of fried chicken, corn on the cob and my friend chose mac n cheese as his side dish and a corn bread muffin. He loved the Mac n cheese and the muffin which was very moist and tasted great. He thought the chicken was good, not real juicy or flavored but a good fried chicken. My smothered pork chops plate was huge, came with 2 good sized fried pork chops, corn on the cob and I chose potato salad and a roll. The pork chops were relatively tender, the gravy was a little more liquidity than what I normally eat, potato salad was a very good homemade side dish and the gravy over the rice was tasty. I would have preferred a more thicker traditional homemade brown gravy. I couldn't finish my order for lunch so I ended up getting two meals out of my lunch. We plan to go back to have the hot link and french fries. The menu has a wide variety so we'll have go back a couple of times to try some of the other dishes. Service is excellent and you get generous portions. Visit Frickin Fried for good home style comfort food.

The parking spots near this restaurant are usually half empty and there's typically at least one suspicious car sitting there with some odd-looking activity going on. Not the fault of "Tokyo Ramen & BBQ". I walked in, even though from the outside it looked closed. A woman followed me in (she seemed possibly homeless. Not judging, just painting a picture). When I walked in, none of the tables had ANYTHING on them. And it looked kind of like they were out of business. I saw no employees. I waited. Then, I saw a man appear from behind the counter (he had been bent over doing something and I didn't see him at first). I wanted to try the food, because the reviews seemed pretty good, but I was sensing that I might regret it if I got locked in to this situation... The lady asked, "Are you open?" And the man said, "Yes". I walked straight out and went to a different ramen place for lunch. So, I can't speak to the food quality. But the ambiance was dismal. And, though it's not their fault, the whole scenario of that side shopping center made me think that they won't be around long. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see myself going back...

I think if they had used fresh (raw) garlic, the whole dish could've been much more elevated. But, with that said, I thought that the flavor was just okay. The broth could've been creamier, in my opinion. But the portion was pretty good and generous. I also chose pork belly as my choice of protein, and I thought the pork belly slices (chashu) was pretty good. Price was pretty standard for nowadays. The ambience of the restaurant was not the best. Don't get me wrong, the restaurant was nice and clean, but there was a lot of restaurant-unrelated items that they attempted to hide but they ended up being not quite well hidden, so they were kind of distracting. But the service was nice.

Or how may I help you?" Nothing. I took the stare as she's ready to take my order. Anyways, I ordered the family meal that comes with 3 proteins of your choice, rice, and Mac salad. All for $45.99, great price. Now, the previous place was called JJ's Hawaiian BBQ and those owners were very friendly and kind. I guess I was expecting the same type of Aloha spirit, being the name and all. Unfortunately, this person did not have an ounce of Aloha in her spirit that day. Sad. The kalua pig was dry, the mac salad bland...not the best service or food from this location. The Pittsburg location is better. So 3 stars just because it fed our family and the price point was good. Other than that, I do not recommend it here.
