Walt from Walt's Adventures reporting from Pleasant Hill, California. I recently attended a bi-weekly gathering with Chilly Willy's Smokehouse BBQ food truck in attendance. Their menu had several selections available to address various types of appetites. Their prices were acceptable and, as I would soon discover, would be well worth my choice choosing their truck over the others that were present. I admit that my food preferences sway toward BBQ. Their potato salad and beans were wonderful and customized. The beef sandwich, however, was the best I have ever had the pleasure of consuming. This is a phrase I do not state easily. Their BBQ was far more than simply combining meat with a BBQ on a bun for profit. It was as though they were able to extract the care and love a smoker were to possess and combine it into their food. I have never experienced such a well created meal. Chilly Willy's Smokehouse BBQ is the pentacle of BBQ. I cannot imagine any other establishments reaching their level of excellence. read more

I read about this food truck on Nextdoor and it was the loaded baked potato that inspired me to drive from Martinez to their location on Clayton Rd by Ducky's Car Wash. It was well worth it as all my senses were engaged: The smoky smell! The other customers raving about the food! The colorful food truck! The feel of the brisket sausage in a bun being raised to my mouth! And the taste of everything - the smoked meats, the fresh slaw, the loaded baked potato and the tangy BBQ sauce. read more

Food was amazing. Brisket was perfect with a deep smoke ring. We had: 1) brisket plate with mac and cheese and potatoe salad - 5+/5. Super yum; & 2) 3 meat combo with brisket, pulled pork & chicken thighs with beans and potatoes salad - 5/5. Brisket was best but all really good. The sauce is slightly sweet with almost no heat. I picked up food from Will for my 70th Birthday Party. Everyone raved about it was amazing. I got brisket, pulled pork and BBQ chicken, as well as baked beans (with chorizo), Mac 'n cheese and potato salad. Fabulous food. Big portions, too. Many of my guests had two plates of food and we still had a good amount of leftovers. I ordered for 30 and I had 28, so the portions were substantial. read more

An amazing presentation. Generous and oh so good! Friendly people and truly served hot off the grill. Had the brisket and the chicken. The spicy BBQ sauce was excellent--I'd recommend buying a bottle to take home. The brisket was good. Unfortunately, the chicken was disappointing because it had a natural gas taste. It may have been a one-time issue, but the price makes me hesitant to try it again. read more

We ordered the 3 meat combo. It had brisket, pulled pork and chicken. The chicken was raw and bloody disgusting. The brisket had little to no meat all fat. The pulled pork was okay. The plate showed it came with two side Mac and cheese and beans but our plates didn't have any. Services was horrible too. They were at the Art & Wine festival I should have spent my money elsewhere. I attended a 50th bday party last night. These guys catered. I can honestly say, the food was Michelin rating worthy. I've eaten a good amount of BBQ in my 68 years, but their flavors are unmatched. I was blown away by the melt in your mouth brisket, tri-tip, baked beans, and the mac and cheese had a unique secret ingredient that I wish I knew what it was. I ordered a 3 meat combo with brisket, ribs and a sausage. Brisket was tender, the link was tasty but the ribs were unprofessional. Half of the meat was too tough to chew and most of the fat was undissolved. For what they charge, a miss this bad is unacceptable. read more

We used Chilly Willy's to cater my partner's birthday party this weekend and it was a huge hit. We ordered the tri-tip, chicken, brisket, beans, salad, and mac & cheese, and every single person at the party was complimenting the food. We had a total of 30 people. Everything was incredibly flavorful and cooked perfectly. The tri-tip and brisket were especially a crowd favorite, and the mac & cheese disappeared fast. They also gave us more than enough food -- everyone was able to eat well and there were still leftovers, which is rare when you're feeding a big group. If you're looking for BBQ catering that people will actually rave about, Chilly Willy's is a fantastic choice. We'll absolutely use them again for future events. read more

Holy bait and switch, Batman. This was my first time ever going to this barbecue truck. Before leaving I called ahead to ask where their truck was that day (because I live around 25 miles away from where they seem to operate out of ) and the owner told me about their new amazing promotion for their new line of barbecue sauce. Apparently If you spend more than $20 you get a free bottle of their barbecue sauce. So when we showed up not only would they not sell the barbecue that they show on their menu online (sorry, we don't do takeout -- what's the point of going to where their business is then?), they would only sell you "plates" served on the location menu. Also that promotion they promised me suddenly disappeared. Now apparently it was only available to the first 20 people of the day. Whatever, but I'm never driving out of my way to go to this truck again. read more

I love dropping by when they are at the Concord Farmers Market on Thursday evenings. I usually drop by a little after 4.pm before the market gets going. I like to order the loaded Mac and Cheese, which is really good with the mild sauce. The service is good and very appreciative. please note the Thursday evening farmers market in downtown Concord is only during the summer months. So I miss Chilly Willy's during the spring and winter. read more

I hired Willy to make me 9 pounds of his smoked brisket and baked beans for my Chanukah party for 30 people. Everything was DELICIOUS and easy to heat up in the containers that he gave me. 27 for a three meat combo is slightly steep but that's not the primary issue. Hot links were 8/10 good. Meat came sauced up which is fine. Ball tip (5.5/10) was thin cut and that was a blessing because it was a bit dry and chewy. Biggest disappointment was the brisket got one large piece that was inedible due to being dry end piece and fat with less than 20% actually useable meat and one very small piece. Beans and Mac and cheese both decent 7/7.5/10 for those. Next time I'd opt for just brisket and hope they give me more than one bite worth. read more

I had reached out to two other caterers and it took them 4 days to get back to me. When I reached out to ChillyWilly's, Willy got back to me right away and I could tell he was a solid dude that took his business and his food very seriously. He has great reviews and there is a reason: The food is excellent. We had brisket, chicken, ribs, BBQ beans and Mac and cheese. Chilly Willy's BBQ was some of the finest in the land! I would totally get it again. We ordered lunch for 18 people and we got try tip hotlinks mac & cheese and barbecue baked beans it was all delicious. My favorite was the mac & cheese with tri-tip mixed in. I can't wait to try his loaded mac & cheese with the brisket. The food arrived right on time it was nice and warm ready to go and it served all of us with some extras for seconds and even thirds. We've came here twice. We come when this place is located at the concord farmers market. The bbq is really good. We ordered a meal with ribs and brisket and two sides it was definitely enough for two. Both times everything tasted amazing. I definitely recommend this place if you like bbq. read more
