This is quickly becoming one of our favorite places since we moved here! Every time I come, I have to order the hot wings. They're perfectly fried, perfectly sauced, super juicy, crispy, and packed with flavor. Honestly, they're everything I want in a wing. This visit, I also tried the loaded tater tots, and oh my goodness!!!! my eyes practically rolled to the back of my head. They were absolutely delicious! The servers are always super chill, attentive, quick, and genuinely awesome. One thing I really appreciated today was the atmosphere. Yes, it's a sports bar, but it wasn't overly loud. The game was on, the AC was keeping things comfortable, and I could actually enjoy a conversation without all the noise. Even the outdoor area was peaceful and relaxing. Pretty standard for what you'd get at a bar and grill, which is totally what you want. It feels a bit pricy? About $18 for a burger and fries, but the portion was good. My East Bay friends wanted to come here for dinner since they grew up and lived in the area. I never been before so this was my first dining experience. We were here in August on a Saturday evening. It definitely has a neighborhood sports bar and restaurant vibe, and I believe it is locally family owned. They have outside and inside dining. The place fits in with Clayton's small town feel. The service was good because we were seated right away by a friendly host. Are server was quick to get our drink orders and checked on us with a decent regularity. Even the busboy was nice and helped clear out dishes promptly and provided to go boxes. A very pleasant surprise. I ordered the Italian Chicken (it's a sandwich) with garlic friends. The pesto sauce and grilled parmesan sourdough caught my eye. I found it enjoyable given the combination of the ingredients they put in it. I would certainly order it again. I don't recall what my friends ordered but I remember they wanted the fried Zucchini sticks as a side. I did not have a chance to try it but clearly it is a favorite. I can see why they brought me here. I could see myself coming here regularly to watch sports and to have comfort food. read more

Good, quick service. Unfortunately, I like fresh food especially at a place where most items are $17. Fried zucchini was really good. Ranch tasted slightly off. Philly cheese steak sandwich had tiny diced unidentifiable meat that wasn't fresh. Everything else on the cheese steak including the bread was good. Our second visit was even better than the first! Service was even better and quicker than last time and the items we ordered this visit were great! The traditional wings with Frank's Original Red Hot Sauce were good, big & juicy wings, though could have used a bit more liquid sauce. The taco salad with ball tips was great with lots of veggies, great beef, a crispy & greasy taco shell and a nice creamy dressing. The BBQ brisket sandwich was sweet, saucy, cheesey, and quite nice brisket meat. And even the side pasta salad was a tasty bowtie pasta salad with an Italian dressing on it. read more

Overall good experience here. Went on a weeknight for dinner and there was a good crowd. I really enjoyed the Mexi melt burger. I'd get it again. The portions are good, prices are competitive. Lots of sports memorabilia and TV's to watch whatever games are on. Cool local spot. read more

Had a fantastic lunch over the weekend at Ed's mudville grill. Ed's has been a Clayton staple since 1994. Don't pass this up if you have an opportunity to go. The decor is traditional sports bar. There's memorabilia everywhere! The bar top seats about 12 but there are amble tables both inside and out. Service was pretty attentive. Bartenders seemed to know almost everyone that came to sit at the bar. They have basic draft beers, nothing local brewery based. And they have 1 of each type of liquor. One whiskey, one vodka, one gin, etc etc you get the picture. We ate a wide variety of food and it was worth every bite and every penny. French onion soup, French dip, Chicago dog, brisket tacos and fried zucchini. The French onion soup was loaded with onions, the broth was super flavorful and the toasted cheese bread on top never got soggy! So good and looking forward to going back for more. The fried zucchini is done in house. No frozen crap. It was roughly 2 whole medium sized zucchini that was cur into spears and deep fried in a thin and crispy batter with parmesan sprinkled on top. French dip was decent. The onion jam was OMG good but was pretty sweet and could have used some horseradish to even out the flavors. I did not personally try to brisket tacos but they were completely devoured and the chips served with were thin and crispy. Give Ed's a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

First...such a fun and comfortable atmosphere. The sports theme environment is a sports fan dream. All the staff are incredibly friendly and the service is excellent. The food...the food is just fabulous. They had a large menu to choose from. I had the French dip sandwich with au jus broth. It was just wonderful!! Everything was so fresh and flavorful. You can eat inside our outside under a covered deck. This quaint town has a bit of a western feel to it. Small town environment, close to the base of Mt. Diablo. I want to love it, but... Grew up on the Clayton border, been coming to Ed's for nearly thirty years. Kids I went to high school with have jerseys hanging from the rafters. They have a steady supply of local kids and young adults rotating through gaining valuable job experience for patrons who want them to succeed. There's no denying that it's a community staple: the vibes are OUTSTANDING. Customers enjoy themselves, and I keep coming back to explore the menu. I've long since grown and left the nest, but find myself back more and more frequently as an only child with an aging mother living in the home I grew up in. I want Ed's to be a reliable "go-to" we can both enjoy. There is work to be done. Beer and wings-- can't go wrong. Gameday? Let's GO! Fish and chips-- fish is abysmal, sandy breading, thin presumably to fry quickly. Fries are passable. Dipping a bit of cod in a good beer batter takes a nanosecond and will be delicious after 6 minutes in the fryer. Same batter would do double-duty and produce AMAZING onion rings. Guaranteed beer re-order when done properly. Ball tip sando/wrap-- unimpressed. Not smoked, not seasoned, dry due to finishing lean beef on the flat top. Served open-face for some reason like a McDonald's McDLT... remember those? At the price point (or a few bucks more!), a smoked prime rib sandwich with a strong mustard-horseradish sauce would bring the house down! Side salad-- Bag-o-lettuce with some pathetic red onions, cucumber, and deep fried croutons. I mourn Stanford's in Walnut Creek: side salad with tomatoes, pickled onions, good cheddar, hard-cooked egg, and a homemade thousand island. A salad worthy of an up-charge! Coleslaw-- Dry, unseasoned, flavorless. This isn't for counting calories! 2:1 mayo to sour cream, cider vinegar, celery seed, dijon mustard, salt and pepper. Real cabbage, thin-sliced onion or scallion, grated carrot. Food processor with a slicing wheel will do all the work, and it keeps for a few days. It'll help your pulled pork (already not too bad) immensely! Pulled pork-- Sweet Baby Ray's or similar--not bad, just not amazing. Maybe look into a Carolina option--spicy mustard and vinegar? Should always have onion, pickle, and slaw available. Taking a KC sauce uptown isn't hard to do and would elevate significantly. Smoke and shred your own pork butt? Cheesesteak-- Not bad, just not great and definitely NOT Philly. Caramelization and texture are biggest misses. Not hard to offer options: mushrooms, hot peppers vs. bell, marinara, and even WHIZ in addition to "civilized" cheese options. The place down Clayton Rd. or IB's in Oakland/Berkeley would be good places to start. Consider a chicken option! Tuna melt-- Make it special! Pickled onions, capers, dill, parsley, dijon, lemon and good, strong cheddar. The American or whatever was served recently had re-congealed by the time it hit the table. Consider grilling the bread in butter, mustard, and parm. Watermelon cooler-- just no. Awful value, AWFUL drink. $16 for Torani, vodka, and lemonade? I did better in college. Real fruit in a Vitamix with some mint or basil, lime simple syrup, vodka or tequila. MAYBE use the Torani to rim the glass with simple syrup. Alternatively, offer a good Midori sour instead. Seasonal food? Heading into fall/winter, braise some short ribs and start thinking poutine vibes. Want it more down-to-earth? Google "Rockerfeller mess." Some great ideas in general. Consider hiring a consulting chef and streamlining the menu to offer a variety of OUTSTANDING options the kitchen can fire and deliver FAST. Ticket times not great tonight for the Watermelon or the kitchen. Servers hustling decently but attention issues and mistake prone (wrong side). Busboys were my heros: professional, attentive, observant, and 99% on top of their game until a couple napkins stayed on the ground for 10+ minutes--end of a seating, lots of clearing and water refills to attend to. They're forgiven! I'm spending my time here because I want Ed's to be rock stars. Great job getting the T-shirt crowd, do a bit more to attract the Polo RL crowd. Watch the Jon Taffer shows--you've got the ambiance, you've got the personalities and the potential. Up the quality, turn more tables, and make it everybody's weekly destination. read more

Popped in in a week day to pick-up lunch and the restaurant was moderately busy. When I called to place my order the attendant was quick to answer, made sure what I wanted was available and even made sure to pass on a special cooking request. I ordered the grilled cheese and zucchini sticks extra crispy. The grilled cheese was delicious. A little dry on the outside, but the Parmesan crust and melted cheese between the bread were great. Very rich which may be why the outside doesn't have much added. I asked for the zucchini sticks to be cooked a bit longer and they were perfect. I've never ordered them before, so I'm not sure how they come out without the extra cook time request. I'm sure they are just fine as my order was excellent. Perfect portion of ranch and they didn't get soggy between cooking to eating. Added bonus is walking through downtown Clayton. It's so cute! read more

Excellent every time! Very family friendly kids food options and portion sizes. You can get a great deal of food for a good price too. (We ordered two kids meals 3 adult meals and 1 appetizer for around 80! Before tip. Great deal taken fast food these days can run a family 40-50 bucks and not even taste well. It gets quickly busy around lunch but you can always find a seat! Service is quick and staff are always circling around for support or if you're in need of service. Bonus for families: park is right next store and the ice cream shop. Good place for out of town family visiting and want somewhere local for a view of Clayton! read more

I just came in to write a review about a great server at Ed's and saw D.S. review and was shocked. Taylor is the best waitress there and if she was a bit short with you, you probably deserved it. I've heard many people be rude to her, the public can be condescending and rude to wait staff! We have had the sun in my children's eyes before and NOT ONE OTHER PATRON has complained to shut their blinds so we're not blinded, so obviously you have a problem yourself. NOT ask the person to move. You don't own the blinds at your table. Taylor can have a lot of tables and still keep things running smoothly. So if you had a problem, you should realize you get the attitude back you put out. Back to my review . . . She's always friendly to our children and has a smile for us. We wish more servers were like Taylor and she took care of us amazingly, once again! read more

Went to Ed's last night with a couple friends. Monday night football, a couple drinks and always delicious food. The service is always great. The ambiance is sports bar and family friendly. With the cost of fast food increasing while the service is usually mediocre at best, this place is so much better value for your money. If you haven't tried it yet, you should. We stopped by for potato skins $14.75, my friend was craving them and they are hard to find these days! He was pleased, they were a hit, crispy, cheesy, with bacon bits on top & a nice ranch on the side. But, the Chicago Dog $10.95 (which it was certainly NOT) on the other hand must have been sitting somewhere for a long long while, the dog had no snap to the wrinkled cold skin, sitting on a cold stale bun loaded with off-putting sweet relish instead of pickle slices, pickled tiny chilis all over it, topped with salsa cut tomatoes; nothing fresh about it--downright dismal. Over $37 with tip for these 2 selections plus 1 soft drink. Service was efficient, dishes were whisked away by secondary staff. We should have sent the hot dog back but just ate half. The hot clam chowder it came with was creamy & flavorful & needed more clams, but still, I'd order it again. For these menu prices, the menu is begging for improvement. We would like to support Mudville but at this point we'll wait until quality improves. A daily special that actually tastes exceptional would be most welcome. read more

Great neighborhood sports bar with a nice selection of draft beer. I tend to stick to burgers and the San Diego burger is a solid option and my typical go to. On a cold day the French onion soup or chili is a solid choice. And can't go wrong with wings here. Best bartenders around! They deliver great service and are extremely welcoming. This place recently resurfaced on my radar again. Every single food item that I've tried over the years is fantastic! It is a sports bar, so expect a lot of noise when games are playing especially. There's also a separate section with a small kids arcade room to keep the kiddos occupied. We ordered the zucchini sticks and a side of fries to all share. For our entrees, we ordered the brisket tacos, the chicken burro wrap and the chicken Caesar wrap with Cajun seasoning. All of this was amazing! Each of the entrees came with a side of really thin tortilla chips with a little bit of seasoning on them and a side of awesome salsa. Absolutely love this place! I'm really happy to come back and update this review. We had a couple only "okay" experiences here in the past, but thanks to some friends who encouraged us to try it again, we went to Ed's last night and were very happy with the experience. Taylor was our waitress again, and she was once again, excellent. She was a highlight from the start, even before when we came. But last night we really enjoyed our food, the overall service, and atmosphere. It's definitely got that small town feel that everyone is raving about, and we got to enjoy that so much more last night. I got the Clayton burger with cheese and if was really good! The meat tasted great, everything was cooked perfectly. It was also nice that the restaurant was kid friendly with books they could read and play with. I believe we will be coming back to try out more of the menu items and I look forward to it! read more

The brisket tacos were good. However it was hard to find the brisket in tacos. There was plenty of head lettie tomato's and onion sticks. The server was very good as was the young man who delivered the meal and bused the tables. How about two tacos in place of three with more meat real lettuce and being summer some ripe tomato's ? The sweet potatoes fry's were fine nice alternatives to chips and salsa. My guess they were frozen bagged not house made. So with a tip the price was bit over 34 and change. The sauce was ok but would have preferred a fresh salsa alternative. Nice to sit outside on a warm summer evening. Some advice to the owner how about some real lettuce greens in place of head lettuce for tacos/salads and some fresh ripe summer slicer tomato's especially when it's summer and there are plenty available! read more

A "Thank You Shout Out" to Ed Moresi & the Mudville gang, e.g., two of the best bartenders in the business, Mack & John, some very good waiters & waitresses, e.g., Aaron, Hammer, Shima, & Taylor. The servings are generous, the pricing is more than reasonable, & there is ample parking nearby. Some of my fatorite eats are the: Chili, French Onion Soup, Iceberg Wedge, Clayton Burger, Reuben, & Philly Cheese Steak. The service is fast & friendly.
