this guy - Rick at Hardway was a godsend to me. Lost 2 60 foot trees behind my pool and they took out my fence...see photos I attached. Fortunately I found Hardway!!! 925-427-2771. This guy removed all the debris, and I do mean all of it. You can't even tell there were ever trees there! He put up a temporary fence too cause my dogs were at the kennel. Then he replaced the fence ... NO staples...No nails... Screws only and that fence ain't going nowhere anytime soon. I got estimates up to 18K with 2 months lead time. One company wanted to leave the stumps?!!! One company wanted to lift the stumps over my pool and house with a crane??? Call Hardway and save yourself a big headache and lots of dollars and get a quality job! read more

I contacted this company to remove a medium size concrete pond and grade some dirt in my front yard with easy access for a bobcat. I sent the owner Rick an email a picture of the job and he quoted me $800-$1000. I asked why so expensive since they advertise on Craigslist they remove concrete for .75 to $1.00 a square foot. This is his rude and unprofessional response via email, "It also says Bobcat accessible and common sense would tell most people this is for large areas, not 100 square foot ponds with limited access. Now once you find out our price is reasonable and that owning a Bobcat and knowing what to do with one are completely different subjects, I would appreciate if you still refrained from calling us. Have a great life. Rick" This is so unprofessional and hopefully people shy away from using this company. Maybe Rick wasn't so "Clean and Sober" when he responded to my email. read more

Very recently, Rick (from Clean and Sober Hauling) wrote me the following message in response to my 1 star review. He said: "No truth to your words" -Rick V. To anyone who is reading this post, I have NO reason to lie. Unluckily for Rick, I actually document all communication I have with potential contractors for my home projects. Just leaving potential customers hanging is not very professional. I'm adding an additional star for last year's experience when Rick was one of the few that showed up and gave me an estimate. Clean and Sober Rocks! I had a few bids for quite an extensive excavation and dirt hauling work at my property in Walnut Creek. One thing that separated Clean and Sober from all other competitors was their mission to provide teenagers and young adults an opportunity to work and give them a "second chance". Clean and Sober is a family business. Rick, Sandy and Tom (their son) was at the house on the first day of project work, promptly on time. All of them was very professional and courteous in handling the work. They lived up with their company name, "CLEAN and SOBER". Work was done very clean and whenever I talked with them on the job, they projected an aura of positiveness that convinced me I made the right choice hiring them on the job. By the way, their price was very reasonable considering Rick had 40 years of experience during this job. He know what he was doing ... Bottom line, you can't go wrong with Clean and Sober! read more

It's all in the name! Rick, Sandy and their crew never cut any corners and went above and beyond my expectations. VERY glad I called Hardway to do work at my home including retaining walls, fencing, and grading with dirt removal. They have an old fashion work ethic that showed with their attention to detail and unwillingness to quit until the job was complete to my satisfaction. If you need a quality fence built, grading or demolition and hauling, I can't recommend Rick and Sandy enough. I've had them demolish and dispose of old sheds, fencing and a hot tub with gazebo. They graded my entire lot and created a drain system to get heavy rainwater through my property. Then they installed a beautiful redwood fence. Here's a great story showing the quality of work they offer. After building me about 300 linear ft of fence, I agreed to take care of my friends two vanilla labrador retrievers for a couple of days. I had 3 sides of fence installed by Rick and Sandy, and one side paid for and completed by a neighbors fence builder. I got a call from the neighbor 3 hours after I left for work, reporting two friendly dogs in her backyard. Upon inspection, I saw the dogs knocked out 3 boards of her fence to get into her yard. Her fence builder had used 1x1 inch wood holding her fence boards top and bottom using nails. Rick's fence had 1x4 boards secured with screws holding it together. The dogs always look for and find the weak link. They couldn't get through Rick's fence. Rick's solution for drainage and excavating over my entire lot saved the day when a motorist ran into the local fire hydrant. The neighborhood looked like a dam had burst. Water flooded the yards of several homes and caused severe damage. Rick's plan for grading my lot handled that extreme condition with zero damage to my property. Clean And Sober did what I needed and more in an emergency with a fallen tree . I was very satisfied , even felt rescued . Am very disappointed in humanity when I read some recent reviews. That some persons would expect 'lift and carry people' to wade through crap clearing a ton, for a couple of hundred bucks - Try it yourself!
