The tech, "made adjustments", got the furnace to ignite, and refused to tell me how. He then consulted with his boss and returned with a $496.00 bill. This is about 3x the amount of a common service call. He added that they would apply the $496.00 to the price of installing a new inducer motor, or a new furnace. Making the installation of a new inducer motor $904.00. I spoke with a supervisor who said it was more than a service call because "adjustments" were made, and the heat is now on. I consider this very sneaky and out of line. They never told me this service call would be $496.00, or any price for that matter. It was a sneaky rip off that the consumer should be aware of. I should have paid no more than $200.00 for that service call. Future customers should be aware of this tactic.

In less than 5 min. of him being there, he told me I needed to replace my AC unit. He said the cost would be around $6800 and the price would be going up so I should buy it now. We walked to the basement, and he looked at the air filter (which I told him I cleaned prior) inspected it and said, "Yep you need a new AC unit" and then lectured me on the age of the unit. The technician walked outside and spent more time writing up the invoice then he did diagnosing my AC unit. In total, he spent 15 min. looking at my AC unit and 20 min. writing up the invoice. He told me the total was $240, I said that was ridiculous and he told me to call the office. I called the office and spoke with David before he left my driveway. David said he would need to talk to the boss. The next day he left me a voicemail saying they would not lower the price and that they could take some money off a new unit.

This past Monday he installed a new Honeywell T10 Lyric thermostat. He tied this in to my existing bypass humidifier to automatically control it to minimize window sweating in the summer. The new controls required a new wire to tie the thermostat to the humidifier. Tom efficiently ran the wire from the main floor to the basement. I hired Lowe's Cleaning Services to clean the duct and evaporator coil of my furnace. They were…read morequick to respond and were able to schedule someone same day, which I needed since I was going out of town the next day. They sent two guys as my unit is an industrial roof-top kind (no idea why). They went through each vent with their rotor brush and vacuum and were clean and efficient. Malden, the main guy, was very polite and explained the findings. Two weeks later, we smelled a burning smell coming from the vents. Had a furnace technician out here to diagnose the issue and he mentioned some insulation was touching the the metal tubes that the fire goes through. He said it's possible the vacuum could have pulled some insulation out of its spot but could not say for sure. I contacted Lowe's and they said they would check it out right away. Malden came back and noticed the smell and immediately started disassembling the furnace. Was able to find the insulation under the motor and cut it away. We turned the furnace back on and he waited to make sure the smell went away, which it did. They went above and beyond to help out, even when the cause of the smell wasn't directly known. They were also very affordable when compared to the going rate. I would definitely recommend Lowe's Cleaning Services.
