Let's talk Lasik. Granted, it hasn't even been 48 hours since my surgery, so if my eyes fall out, I promise I'll update this review. I'm the type of person where if there's even a microscopic chance of disaster, I'm certain it'll happen to me. I prepped myself for this surgery by stumbling around my house blindfolded while asking "Could I live like this?" Even with that answer being a resounding "NO," I decided to finally take the plunge before my 40th birthday. In sum, so far it's one of the best decisions I've ever made, and I strongly regret not doing it a decade ago. The experience at Clear Advantage is streamlined and professional. You quickly feel like you are in great hands and that nothing can go wrong. From the front desk, to the initial assessments with the techs, everyone is extraordinarily friendly while also emanating an air of "chill out dude, we do this all the time." And really, that's all I needed to accept the frightening proposition of lasers slicing my eyes open. The surgery itself is quick and painless. Doctor Peters calmly explains the process, you're in the chair for maybe 10 minutes, and the laser is more fascinating than terrifying. I entered the operation legally blind. Immediately afterwards my vision was still blurry, but much clearer than before. After a 2 hour, Valium-induced nap, I awoke to 20/15 vision. I only had 20/20 with contact lenses. It was a revelation. You must avoid all tv/phone screens during the first day and are on a strict prescription and lubricated eyedrops routine for the next month. It's a nuisance, but easily worth it. I live nearly an hour from Clear Advantage and chose them after a recommendation from my local eye doctor. I strongly feel like they must be the best in the region. Doctor Peters and the entire staff make the process clear, casual and pain-free. It's been nearly 30 years since I've had vision like this without contacts/glasses. Don't make my mistake and rule out this operation from fear. read more

LASIK. I am writing this review less than 24 hours after my procedure and have already driven to a follow up appointment sans pain and with 20/15 vision. This is all truly surreal. I was so impressed with the kindness and thoroughness of the process and staff. I initially wanted to get both eyes done but after reviewing one of my eyes they denied it due to some scarring from a previous ulcer. They noted that their practice is conservative with the patients they take and let's be honest, that is EXACTLY what you want when you're going to have a procedure affecting your eyesight. In terms of the procedure I definitely had some nerves but they truly put me at ease with explaining how quick and foolproof the technology is, if your eyes move, the laser moves. How cool? If anyone is on the fence about getting this procedure, I cannot stress enough how incredible Dr. Peters is as well as the whole staff at Clear Advantage. The 1-2 hours of discomfort after the numbing meds wore off is nothing compared to the feeling of waking up being able to see unassisted and without pain. I live a hour away and I am so happy I made the trek to Portsmouth to get this done. 10/10, do it. read more

The team was excellent from qualifying exam to 18 month post op I was treated perfectly. Before surgery I couldn't see 10 feet in front of me and now I can read signs others dont even know are there yet. The procedure itself was not as bad as many make out but they gave me a valium and I am not too skiddish. There was some dryness and discomfort a few weeks after but this is normal. In August, I received Bladeless LASIK from Clear Advantage in Portsmouth. I have nothing but absolute wonderful things to say about this place. So let me start at the beginning for you, as I want to share my story. LASIK is a big choice and not for everyone. And if you are like me, you very well may be quite terrified at just the thought of someone doing anything to your eye. Let me tell you first hand that Clear Advantage is not going to force you to do anything you do not qualify for or feel ready for. Instead they are going to be there to clearly explain all aspects of LASIK to you, answer any questions you have & provide you no pressure while you decide. And when I say any question, I mean any question. I asked some pretty off the wall paranoid questions & they answered them all and never once made me feel uneasy or embarrassed by asking. They did in-depth exams and explained all risks thoroughly. I never once felt like they were trying to just get me to say yes. Instead they mapped out my eye and explained it all to me. I know that if I had not been a perfect candidate, they would have told me and not proceeded. That made me feel and so at ease. When it comes to your eyesight, it should always feel like someone is caring for your health and vision & not trying to sell you anything. Dr. Peters, Dr. Turner & the entire staff obviously care about each person that comes to them. So after it was clear I was a candidate for LASIK and I would go forward, I scheduled the big day. I want to make sure to point out that I decided to go forward with a clear understanding all of possible risks. I have to mention that the person who brought me for my treatment day was so well taken care of while I was getting ready. She was provided snacks, TV, coffee, cold beverages, current reading material, and more. The waiting area is very clean and comfortable. Plus, the crazy thing is that the person that brings you does not even have to wait around very long, because LASIK is just that quick! The staff had me watched one more video about LASIK, to ensure I clearly understood the risks & post op care for LASIK. They even went as far as to have me write out that in paper. Sure that may seem like a legal thing, but I think it is also to ensure people really are paying attention to all the post op care. Again, that comes back around to them really caring about the patients. So away I went into the surgery room. And I was back out in ten minutes! Ten minutes later the surgery was done! During that surgery I was quite nervous, but the team was so kind and comforting during it. Dr. Peters made me feel like my eyes were the most important things in the world at that moment. I really appreciated that. And guess what? I have 20/15 vision. I cannot explain how great that is! I can SEE everything & it is wonderful. If I could give 10 out of 5 stars blade-less. Everyone there was wonderful. So thoughtful. So kind. So reassuring. The whole process from my first visit to the surgery was so smooth and effortless. I received the bladeless LASIK treatment and they really have it down to a science. The procedure took less than 15 minutes. The doctor and the nurse in the room were so calming and processional - counting down so you knew exactly how long each step would take. I seriously could not have asked for a better experience and felt completely in good hands. All of this with the extra layer of COVID. Would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat! read more

I had both bladeless Lasik and PRK (one on each eye) here back in January, and from consult to post-surgery, the experience has been great. I had done some research and despite living about an hour away from Portsmouth, the reviews for this place were universally positive, unlike other places I encountered. When it comes to sight, I didn't want to mess around. I have been really, really nearsighted since I was a kid, and have always relied on glasses/contacts any time I wasn't sleeping, basically. The ability to see in the shower or underwater, or anywhere really at any time, was something I wanted terribly but the thought of somehow coming out of surgery worse than I already was was a deterrent for a while. Then I lost my left contact lens for what seemed like the dozenth time and said, screw this, it's time for me to see for real now that a third of my life is in the can. The initial exams leading up to the surgery were very thorough and they even extended the suggested length of time I was supposed to go without contact lenses in my eyes by a couple of weeks to be sure my corneas were no longer affected by having worn them for so many years, which I appreciated. The staff was super nice and helpful and it's obvious that they want to make sure you're fully qualified for it and understand the risk and the complications involved. The day of surgery, they managed to do one eye with the (very quick and painless) bladeless procedure, but they were having trouble getting my corneal flap cut and lifted on the other eye. I knew something was up after a few minutes of them poking around my eye so they took me out of the surgery room and explained why they couldn't continue (my cornea of steel, evidently, was impenetrable) and sent my myopic-self home with an appointment to do PRK on the other eye in a couple of weeks. That surgery was a little more painful and took longer to recover from, but it worked out just as well as the other eye did once it healed up. I now see 20/15 and 20/20 from each eye, respectively. It was worth every penny and long drive to Portsmouth and walking around the office with Ray-bans on for about a month and having strangers think I'm hungover or something. If you're thinking about it and have the ability to pay for it, do it and definitely have it done here. read more

I had Zyoptix customized Bladeless LASIK March of 2014. You receive a thorough eye examination to make sure you are a candidate for LASIK. You watch a video about the procedures. I have been wanting to have Lasik surgery for quite some time as I have needed glasses since 6th grade and I had a very high prescription(. -6.50). I was very nervous the day of surgery but the staff takes such good care of you!. The surgery was not bad at all. I had no pain at all during the procedure. My follow-up visit the next day I had 20/15 vision! The staff is wonderful! I have had 2 follow-up visits with my eye doctor and my eyes are doing great! read more

So I didn't end up getting surgery here, but I wanted to write a review of the evaluation process because it was so great. I went here for a Visian ICL (Implantable Collamer Lenses) evaluation. I have high myopia and thin corneas, so I already knew I wasn't a candidate for LASIK or PRK. I scheduled an appointment for 2 weeks out, as that was how long I had to refrain from wearing contacts so my eyes would return to their original shape. The appointment itself went smoothly--about an hour and a half of tests (nothing invasive), an informational video, and a consultation. They dilated my eyes and sent me home with some under-corrected contact lenses to try out. My issue was that I have a mild astigmatism, and since the astigmatism-correcting version of ICL (toric) is not yet approved in the US, the correction wouldn't be perfect....so the doctor wanted me to try out these lenses to simulate what the result would be like. I did try out the contacts but in the end I decided that I'd rather just go to Canada to get my eyes as near perfect as possible. It's too bad because the people at Clear Advantage were so great and I really felt comfortable with their level of expertise. Oh, and did I mention the entire evaluation was FREE? It's just too bad the FDA is dragging their feet on approving this toric ICL procedure. Anyways, I'd recommend Clear Advantage to anyone looking to get an opinion on corrective surgery. I had the LASIK procedure just over a week ago and I can't be happier with the results so far. The staff at Clear Advantage is absolutely amazing! My first email correspondence provided me with so much information, I was able to make my decision, schedule my consult and surgery within a week! I had worn glasses my entire life and was never able to wear contacts bc I couldn't get them in. Clear advantage worked with me and made me feel comfortable during the entire process. I had Zyoptix customized LASIK done not even two days ago and I can all ready see 20-15! It's WILD to be able to see without corrective lens. I've been wearing glasses since first grade and contacts for the past fifteen years (I turn 30 in two months). Within the last three years, I've developed eye allergies and have found it difficult to wear my lenses on a daily basis. That is why I choose to finally have a consult at Clear Advantage.
