I had a really pleasant experience at this eyeglasses shop, let me tell you about it. I came down to Portsmouth NH from good reviews of this shop and looking for a little more selection than I could find in the Kennebunks. A bit of a drive, but that's OK for me, I like to go to Kittery whenever I can and not for the retail but for the restaurant scene (go Black Birch!!). But I found some kickin' frames from some London designer, and I picked 'em on the spot with some seriously high-tech Zeiss lenses. When I picked them up a few weeks later, I thought everything looked fine in the store, but over the course of the next few weeks I realized that these glasses were pretty weird. I had to keep my whole body in perfect posture in order to get the distance in focus. While this was good for my spine, it was distracting and I ended up not even wearing these otherwise awesome spectacles. Jump forward a year later, and I finally brought the offending glasses to an optician in Portland, ME. They informed me that the lenses had been simply made wrong. And that they doubted the shop in Portsmouth would correct the error because it had been more than a year. So my bad. I figured what the hell, I will give it a try. I brought the specs back to the store and they took them over. Long story short, they phoned me up and said "Our bad", the lenses had been made wrong, and they went on to replace them for free!! I am a seriously stylin' dude now, attracting way more attention for my new frames than I am ever used to getting. So that is my testimony, and they get the full five stars for their friendly and generous customer service!! read more

Friendly staff, nice selection of glasses. My gripe was with their service... After buying several pairs of glasses here over the years, I came in for a simple adjustment and discovered that the lens had a cloudy area on them after the adjustment. They balked at first that the cloudy area was due to the procedure that they used in adjusting the frames, they said the area was scratched. They did, however replace the lens via their guarantee, which was wonderful. There was a strange turn of events after this nice experience though... A week or so later I received a letter telling me that I was no longer welcome as a customer because "they could no longer meet my needs"! Odd way to treat a long time patron. Such a shame for a small local business to be so short sighted. (excuse the pun) read more

I love this little shop! I needed new sunglasses and did not have a great experience trying to get attention and service from the kiosk at the mall. This shop had a better selection of Maui Jim styles. The store manager helped me narrow down choices and make a selection that looked great. "Dr. White enjoys the challenges of designing lenses for patients with unique and complex perscriptions" That would be me. I have had myopia and astigmatism since I was 12, and now that I am 51, add farsightedness to the mix. I am amazed at how Dr White keeps pulling rabbits from her hat in designing contact lens prescriptions that cover most of my needs...I had given up on contacts when I first came to her. Her progressive lenses have also bee great. Once when the fit wasn't quite right, she re-did the glasses at no cost to me, even though several months had passed. They may be pricey, but you won't find that kind of quality and service anywhere else. The rest of the team is great too, very friendly and helpful. read more

High quality frames, top notch opthamologists with latest and greatest equipment, and really the best staff, especially Scott. Not just nice and qualified/knowledgable staff, but they go out of their way to go above and beyond. Only strike is price, but you get what you pay for, and then some. They sell higher end frames(not over the top end, but definitely quality), and they arent cheap.....this ain't no cheepo-twopair-of-glasses for one. Recently broke a pair of glasses after just getting new ones(new transitions and nice frames).....lens' especially cost me a pretty penny and they were smashed as were the frames. I was just outside LA, and called them to beg for another identical pair as fast as possible. Had them in my hand a week later(coulda been 6 days, but was in no overnight delivery territory).....pretty dang good considering they didnt carry the frames anymore and my prescription took about 12 days the first time around. Didnt even make me pay till after I had them on my nearly permanently squinted face. You may be able to save a buck somewhere, but the quality and service they give cannot be matched..... I compared prices on my frames with lens', and I couldnt beat it.....even if I could have, I was willing to pay extra just for their service, which is definitely worth something.....quite a bit in my case. I went from 4 stars to 5, and my only quibble was price, but you know, sometimes you get more than you pay for with personalized, and even exemplary service. I updated this on 6/3/2017. read more

I got a post card time for your new exam... ok...unfortunately...nothings chaned since my last review except its gone down hill from there...again no names were given...same as last review I went to make the appt..met by a ditzy tattooed blonde..a man came out he seemed very pleaseant (No name) we discussed the frames I wanted yes yes I can get those and would get some in for trying..exam time same as before greeted by a man (No name) tells me get to the back room for the machine again no explaination I refused and was greeted with a flippy reply.. like whatever then the eye doctor, no name or greeting ten minute exam...done. the call comes for the frames arrival. I went Mr Friendly and pleaseant was the opposite this time..he showed me the frames which were not at all what we discussed he didn't even sit down with me at the desk with mirrors to discuss ect,,I had to stand up at the mirrors to try while he glared. Not good.. he got real haughty about it...well I wont be back its gone down hill since last visit..i wont be back. read more
