Rather than reimbursing me for the nearly $25,000 in cleanup costs I incurred after their work, they are suing to foreclose on my home for non-payment. You can verify this case yourself: Second District Court Case #62-CV-24-1760. As I understand it, a homeowner is legally responsible for any lead contamination on their property--forever--regardless of who caused it. That means I will always be at risk of a child suffering lead poisoning on my property due to what I allege was improper lead containment. What's even more frustrating is that I believe CCR will likely spend more in legal fees trying to avoid responsibility than it would have cost to properly remediate the lead contamination in the first place. Instead of resolving the issue, they have chosen a more expensive and drawn-out legal battle--one that could have been avoided if they had simply taken responsibility. Before hiring any contractor, ask yourself: What happens if they disturb lead-based paint? Who will pay for the cleanup? UPDATED: September 22, 2024 - Legal Challenges and Rising Costs Day 534: More than a year and a half ago, I filed a case in conciliation court after what I believe was lead contamination caused by Clear Choice Restoration's work. Instead of attempting to resolve the issue, they filed their own lawsuit and moved the case to district court, significantly increasing my legal costs. In my opinion, CCR uses the legal system aggressively in disputes with customers. I believe this discourages homeowners from pursuing claims against them. However, I want to show that there is no reason to fear taking them to court or writing a truthful review about your experience. WARNING: No Lead Paint Insurance Coverage When I filed a claim for lead-related damages, their insurance company denied coverage, stating that their policy does not cover lead contamination. (See attached letter for proof.) Before hiring them, ask for written confirmation of what their insurance actually covers. Lifelong Liability & Child Safety Risks Lead poisoning is irreversible and particularly dangerous to children and pets. Even small amounts of lead dust or paint chips can cause permanent brain damage and developmental issues. - If lead contamination isn't properly remediated, a homeowner can be held liable indefinitely--even if they didn't cause it. - Future homeowners could also be at risk if contamination is not properly disclosed and cleaned up. - I believe that CCR's work increased my legal liability and the potential health risks on my property. If your home was built before 1978, be extremely cautious when hiring a contractor for exterior work. What Went Wrong: My Experience with Clear Choice Restoration I hired Clear Choice Restoration to replace my siding after an insurance claim. My home had two layers of siding, with the original clapboard coated in lead-based paint. - I allege that CCR failed to follow proper lead remediation practices, which resulted in lead paint chips throughout my yard. - They attempted two cleanups, but I do not believe either was effective. - They refused to file an insurance claim to cover the cost of cleanup. - They stopped work without notice and stated that another contractor caused the lead contamination. I believe their actions created a serious environmental hazard that I was left to remediate at my own expense. Let me start off by saying, the quality of work and the professionalism of the work crew was great. We are not unhappy with the end product by any means. Our disappointment comes with the complete lack of customer service from the beginning. We used Clear Choice because we were referred to them through our insurance for our hail damaged roof. Initially, the person who came out to work with our claim adjuster did not fight for us to get our claim approved and left our house without giving us any information about how to follow up. He was only at our house a fraction of the time the insurance adjuster was here. Clear Choice was supposed to follow up with our insurance company to get the claim approved and they didn't. In the end, it required us to make several phone calls and two months of our time, we were able to get the claim approved. Following this, the same gentleman from Clear Choice came out to show us roof options and left shingles all over our deck, yard, and sidewalk. Even after calling, no one ever came back to get them. When the insurance company finally approved the roof, Clear Choice had told us they would call us immediately to set up a time to start on the roof (it had been 2 full months since the initial call). They never followed up with and after 2 more weeks, we called to check when the roof was going to get done. I was told another 2 weeks. When I said I was going to hire someone else, he told me they would start it on Friday. When I called on Thursday to make sure the materials would be dropped off in the correct spot, Clear Choice told me that they had no scheduled start for the project at our house. When I told them I was going to take my business elsewhere, they told me they could "start the next day". As I stated, the roof was wonderfully done by the work crew. They were respectful and cleaned up our yard and finished up on Sunday. Following the roof work, Clear Choice was supposed to contact us to schedule the window wraps and downspout work. After multiple calls by us over a 5 week period (messages were left each time with no return calls), I hired someone else to do the work. He came out and finished it in less than a week since it was a very small amount of work to be done. We didn't hear anything from Clear Choice for months following the job, until the end of the year at which time they continued to harass us (and not very kindly) to pay them for their work. At this point, they shared their concern about finishing the window wraps and other part of our job completed for us. At end of the year when they wanted to get their books closed out, we (and our insurance company) received many, many phone calls and emails wanting their money. It would have been nice to have received this kind of attention from Clear Choice, when we needed to have the work completed. Through this whole experience, we watched 20+ homes in a 4 block radius get roofed, sided, guttered, and shuttered while we were waiting to get our roof completed. I would not recommend Clear Choice (and have told my insurance company to stop recommending them) based on their lack of customer service. read more

We hired Clear Choice Restoration to replace our roof and siding after a hail storm came through our area. We interviewed many contractors and had people knocking on our door daily but no one had the knowledge or professionalism that Steve Olson had. He answered every question, recommended changes to our venting, and showed us various shingle and siding options. He also explained the differences between the brands and what the various warranties were. Once the work started his crews were on time, did great work, and cleaned up thoroughly. Brent from Clear Choice Restoration was the production manager and he was calling us throughout the process giving us updates on what to expect and when things were going to happen and was also very kind and helpful. When the job was done Steve walked around the home and showed us before and after pictures and made sure we were completely satisfied. He sent a final bill to both us and our insurance company and helped us deal with our mortgage company to get our check endorsed and the whole process was smooth and stress free.
