This atmosphere, which has been cultivated by owners, staff, and area patrons, is difficult to replicate in a big-box, chain gym. Aside from the overall vibe, I like that the people at Elite are upfront with regard to their pricing. There are no guessing games. Their rates are listed on their Web site. They also offer a ten punch card so you can try out the gym before you make a commitment. Those who workout at Elite seem to be connected members of the local community. I find that the clientele is friendly, respectful, and fitness-focused. Lastly, the gym is located in a very cute area of Western Springs. There are several local businesses nearby that you can visit before or after a workout. It's also important to note that parking has never been an issue for me at Elite.

I'm on track to complete 17 classes during this time. All of the instructors I've practiced with have lead a nice class. Of course there may be some personal preference differences in terms of music selection or flow, but there are enough different times and instructors to be able to pick and choose which class you would want to go to. I enjoy the variety they offer in terms of types of classes. I lean towards yoga sculpt, HIIT Pilates, and the 90 min traditional. Restorative I enjoy, but unless I was an unlimited member I may not partake in. There's tons of parking. The women's locker room is pretty roomy and has some nice amenities if needed. Recommend it, if you're in the area.

When I moved to the area about 10 years ago, I started practicing vinyasa at YBD Wheaton, but…read morehaven't practiced in a few years. Recently I had a rare, coveted weekday sans children, so decided to treat myself to a yoga class. I still had an account that was easy to get back into when I signed up online for the single class. I normally do virtual yoga at home weekly, but decided to mix things up and do a Traditional Hot class, which I also haven't done in a few years. Before the actual class, I brushed up on the 26 poses. On the day of the class, I wasn't necessarily greeted warmly, and it seemed assumed that I was familiar with the studio and knew what I was doing. After introducing myself and explaining that I was new to the studio, the girl at the front desk was more friendly and welcoming. I also met Erin, the instructor for the Traditional Hot class, and she nicely showed me around. The class itself consisted of obvious regulars, which was interesting. I like that Erin gave clear instruction, correction, and tips both indirectly and directly (i.e. positioning support). Overall, I liked her as instructor and found her very informative, especially since Traditional Hot is not in my normal practice. Overall, I enjoyed the class and got a heck of a workout that I felt for days afterwards. The only things that I weren't a fan of was that she was very insistent on open eyes (I use yoga as a way to center and calm myself, and usually [unconsciously] close my eyes); she gave about 3 verbal reminders of open eyes during the practice. Also, she seemed to a little overtly correct me with some balancing poses that I was obviously struggling with. (I have Hallux Limitus [limited movement of my big toes] and degenerative arthritis in my feet). During the class, I continued persevering and modifying on my own, but was admittedly wobbly at times. I think that Erin was probably trying to be encouraging, but she was unaware of my physical limitations. I think that instructors might want to keep that in mind when interacting with students: someone might have limitations that are not readily apparent. I enjoyed mixing up my yoga practice with the Traditional Hot, but would probably continue to stick with YBD1 or 2 for any future classes I may attend.

Talk about a full body workout!…read more The team here is excellent and the owner Chris is one of the nicest people I've ever met. Members are equally nice and I can see why community is one of their biggest selling points. Working out is hard if you're not in a routine. It's all about Staying consistent and having accountability. The team here give you specialized coaching and help you reach those fitness goals, whatever they maybe. Workouts can be intense but at the end of them you're on a bit of a high. Workouts range from about half an hour to about an hour. I think they have a free trail so you can check it out and see if it's for you, which was really nice before I committed to paying. They have various packages based on sessions. It's a bit far for me to commit to the unlimited so I like that I can get the 4 or 8 sessions and pop in a few times a month to switch out my workouts and keep it interesting.

I have been having back pain for quite some time now. I had tried Iyengar yoga back in Cleveland…read moremany years ago and I remember feeling really good with that style. So when the back pain started I thought let me look for something similar here. I tried a few different studios with different styles but honestly was not satisfied as nobody was giving any corrections or telling us which muscles to engage, and I felt like I was just going through the motions. Then I found Garden of Yoga and started attending classes with Kathleen and Kristen. Both are Iyengar certified and from the very first class itself I felt the difference. No matter how many students are there, both of them will come around, watch your pose carefully, and give individual corrections. They also use props properly to make sure you are doing the pose correctly and not putting stress in the wrong places. The classes are 1.5 hours which gives enough time to actually work on things properly. What also surprised me is how affordable it is compared to other places where I was paying more for just one hour and getting much less. You can genuinely feel that they are doing this to give back to the community, not just for the money. I equally enjoy both Kathleen's and Kristen's classes and I am hoping to continue regularly and slowly become more flexible and stronger. Very grateful to have found this place.

Teachers here are not doing the postures except for example; rather, when students are in the asanas, teachers are roaming the class, making minor adjustments to student's positioning. They are not working out themselves while students follow along. This is an excellent yoga situation and we are fortunate to have it in our western suburbs.

All I have to say is.. I'm a Pilates girly now…read more I am writing this review as someone who is in to fitness and trying out new workouts, but never before tried Pilates. I found Village Pilates on ClassPass and booked the "beginner mat" class the night before. Getting there- There is meter parking right in front of the studio and you ring the doorbell for an instructor to let you in. As a first timer, they asked me to fill out a waiver upon walking inside. They ask for some generic information like birthdate and home address, but they also have a space where you can notify them of any injuries or health needs that should be known before taking the class. When I wrote that I had scoliosis, Len checked in with me and said I should let him know if I feel any pain during class so that he can provide me a modification. The experience- I was pleasantly surprised by my ability to follow the instructors sequence and pacing. "Len" was the instructor for the beginner mat class. He was super patient and helpful in correcting any errors in my form in a kind and respectful way. Overall a great experience and I can't wait to go back!

My posture and balance have greatly improved and my slightly curved shoulders are correcting as I progress. I'm not particularly coordinated and was nervous when I began. But founder/certified instructor Fran Ahrens is so welcoming, patient and knowledgeable that any anxiety to begin something new is quickly replaced with excitement and curiosity. She is a true believer in Joseph Pilates' philosophy and fundamental principles and is an expert at her craft. She is located in downtown LaGrange and had previous studios in Western Springs, Hinsdale and Vail, Colorado. Each session offers something new and challenging.
