It always seems like there is a really relaxed vibe and the low lighting and heated bar really add to this experience. I used to think that The Abbey was just a bar (by no means a bad thing!) but I stopped in for lunch and had a spectacular pulled pork sandwich a few days ago. Dare I say it... The best pulled pork sandwich in downtown Menomonie?! The sauce sounds like it would be weird because there is mustard in it but I can confirm that it is delicious and really makes the sandwich. Props to The Abbey for having a limited menu and having a few really good dishes instead of a bunch of average bar food. Apart from the atmosphere, food and staff there are really good drink specials at The Abbey as well! Every day there is a near unbearable special. When school is in session these deals are definitely taken advantage of by the Stout students. If I had to credit this place for just one thing it would be that the building itself is such a relaxing place. No flashing lights, no overly loud music and no amateur DJ screaming at the top of their lungs like other bars in Menomonie. Even yet, if inside is a little too much you can always step out onto the patio. If you're looking for a relaxed cocktail in Menomonie this is your place.

A limited food selection is made up by a thorough beer selection. A friendly bar tender and friendly locals rounded out the visit. A good sized TV behind the bar with great sounding speakers was kinda surprising. There is an old oval pic on the wall high above and behind the bar of a couple who I meant to ask who they were, but I forgot. Could they be the McSweet's? If I ever pass through Black River Falls I'll have to stop in and ask. Don't forget to get some beer to go!

When Brenda mentioned she could pour me an "air" I responded... oh Lucid Air! That's one I hadn't heard in a minute! The tap room is very cozy and w Brenda also being a travel agent there is travel destination suggestions on the tap list. Mid visit the Brewer/co-owner, Ford came behind the bar. There was a decent selection of vinyl....not sure if they have a record player or it's just fun "decoration"? My friend gave me the explanation of the names on the shelving behind her. Again....fer cute!! I won't divulge it, go on & ask for yourself, I think it'd be funner hearing it in person from an owner! One friend opted for an Inbound beer. After having Brenda pour me a taste of Chubby Chipmonk Pale Wheat, which was good but better than a standard wheat beer since it's a Pale Wheat, so if you're looking for a muted beer, this isn't it, so go on and taste it. I asked my other friend f I could have a sip of his Bicycle Brown? There it is....that's what my palate is looking for! I opted for a pint of Bicycle Brown Ale... it hit the mark....as I still had a couple hour drive in front of me to the cities. I cannot speak enough of how kind and warm the owner was. She went above and beyond for us and even walked us to our car with umbrellas in the pouring rain. After ordering a couple beers and making small talk I was welcomed with open arms by the initially grumpy older lady bartender. I'm from Minnesota, that makes me a Vikings fan. We had a good natured discussion about that. Long story longer great little bar to spend some time at. P.S. the fact that I am only the second person to review this bar tells you something.
