They will do whatever they can to keep your deposit and may still add extra charges after you move out. They have you do an exit walkthrough, but it feels like a waste of time because they still charge you for things that were never discussed or agreed upon during the walkthrough. Clemmer & Co. looked promising at first -- but my experience quickly turned into a frustrating letdown. I lived at a small property near North Chester and Day Ave for a year and a half. The rent was fair, and the neighborhood was peaceful when I first moved in. Lyndsey was wonderful during the move-in process -- sweet, helpful, and professional. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience didn't follow suit. The property itself declined quickly. The communal laundry room, which was a listed amenity in my lease, was removed without warning after the owner converted garage buildings into more rental units. No heads-up. No replacement. Just "figure it out yourself." Maintenance? Almost nonexistent. My requests were often canceled by the maintenance supervisor without so much as a call or follow-up. One of the worst examples was a clogged toilet that took three weeks to fix. A contractor even said it needed replacing -- but warned me not to get my hopes up because Clemmer wouldn't approve it. He was right. There were also serious issues with the unit -- roaches, brown water from the hot taps (the water heater likely needed replacement), and zero pest support. I paid out of pocket to handle it myself. And communication? Honestly, it was awful. Utilities were shut off with no notice. Reaching someone felt like a part-time job. I was patient and kind throughout my lease, but that effort was never reciprocated. If you're weighing your options in Bakersfield, skip Clemmer & Co. and take a good look at Central Cal Management. WORST company I had to deal with. I've hired them to manage my home for the last 3 years. The first year, I had no issue. Second year, I had concerns (that I'd addressed). This last year, I lost hoped. I felt they were working for the tenants than having my best interest in mind. I made it loud and clear numerous times what my priorities were. Mention how it will be difficult to contact me since I am active duty, station on the east cost. I've deployed numerous times overseas which make it difficult to contact me or respond to emails right away. I've told them it will be difficult for me to response right away but I will response as soon as I can. Which is why, I repeatedly told them my priorities every time I had concerns before I'd pushed out on deployments. But, when I would contact them, I get a little to no response. It wasn't until I decided to sale my home that ended our relationship, where they started harassing me. Asking me to provide payment for their services for the last month that they didn't provide any services another than headaches. "I will take the next steps in resolving this with the military and small claims..." What does the military have to do with anything when it is a civil matter. And filing for small claims for something under $500 is a waste of money on their end. I would not recommend this company as a homeowner or tenant. Let me just begin by stating that Clemmer and Company is the worst company I've ever done business with. I highly recommend that you do your research and look up the history of the rentals. They perceive themselves as an upscale real estate company but they are everything but that. I have stepped foot into their office located on Rosedale Hwy and numerous times were they carrying on personal and unprofessional conversations. Melinda is loud and cusses while clients are doing business just around the door. Not only are they doing shady business with certain property's, but they are also quick to charge people for things that are not their responsibility. For 8 months I put up with a nightmare from hell! They don't stay on top of their property's, they don't care whatsoever if you are living in a roach infested unit that does not have the normal functions to properly accommodate any US citizen of this country to proper living standards. They only do work orders when you email complaining about numerous things wrong with their units and hire unprofessional people to do terrible work. Probably unlicensed professionals! They advertise beautiful property that are in excellent condition until you go and actually look at the units. They have no problem moving you into a complex that is supposably a HOA and then collecting section 8 from the person that lives directly next to you. I've never heard of ANY business that collects full rent from some and then section 8 all in the same facility. There is a reason section 8 is a separate entity and everyone knows that. It depreciates the value of the entire property! They allow illegal activity, unsafe living conditions, and toxic environments to family's. Clemmer and company illegally raises people's rent and claims they are doing renovations and doing improvements to their property's but it's all a scam. They will charge you for things that are other people's mess and be real quick to sweep things under the rug! They were sued in May 2023 for the same things that are still happening and people need to speak up and report all the scams and lies. I want to start off saying Clemmer & Company helped my family and I tremendously. I'm renting a beautiful 3 bedroom two bath home for a reasonable price. Being a single mom of teen boys it was imperative that I lived in a nice area for a reasonable price. Clemmer offered just that when all other companies did not. I've been here over a year now and I've always had maintenance requests that by the way are so easy to obtain through their company app. All repairs are done within 24 hours of my maintenance request and I love the fact that I can use the app to request whatever maintenance I need for my house. I have never had an issue getting maintenance to fix any problems with this home . When I moved in Melinda, the owner was so nice and gracious with me. She was patient and worked with me during the move-in. Maria that handles all of Rent payments is great. She responds to me in a reasonable amount of time, she's always so helpful and nice and knows her job well. Anytime I need to go to the office the ladies are so nice. It's clean it's professional and orderly. Overall, I would definitely recommend Clemmer and company to anyone who is looking to rent a home. Christy Melinda and tosha will always tell you that they talked to your worker (housing authority?) even if you don't have a worker. and they all 3 treat everyone they have as tenants like the tenant is inferior, the environment is very toxic. I have lived on the property managed by Clemmer and Co. For 5 years. I first lived in a big house paying 600. Per month when the property was sold. Clemmer and Co forced me to move out saying they were going to demolish the house. They did not do that all they did was add an extra wall to make the dining area into a bedroom and they added a toilet and shower to make another bathroom so they could rent it for 1400/mo. They moved me to a 2 bedroom apt on the same property and charged me 1300./mo. Before I moved in it the rent was 500./mo. Out of the 18 units I am the only one paying that much rent. Same unit as mine the new tenants only pay 1100.mo. I am a veteran and the VA pays half my rent until recently when the VA got section 8 housing for me. They would not compromise at all on the 1300 my voucher is for 950 or could be for 1050. So Clemmer said they would move me to a 1 bedroom for 950. The 1 bedroom they wanted me to move in failed inspection twice for cockroaches and no stove or fridge. They told me they were taking the stove out of my current unit to the other one just for inspection.then they would bring it right back they did that twice. The third time they took them they refused to bring them back and in doing so they forced me to sign the lease took 250. From me toward a deposit before they would let me have access to the unit so I did not have a choice I had to sign before they gave me a key. I have never been late on rent never denied them access . I have medication , injections, that has to refrigerated. I had to keep all my food in ice chests for 3 days . All my food spoiled and my medication is no longer useable. I am 66 yrs old and disabled. After forcing me to sign and pay 250 deposit I got the keys tried to go in the front door and could not get it open went in the back and and there were cock roaches dead on sand in every surface along with roach droppings there were live ones crawling on the walls and floors. There were dog urine stains and smell in the front room. I took pics and videos of the live ones and the urine stains in every room and declined the unit. I don't have bugs in my unit and I clean it regularly. After I declined it they told me I had to get the appliances out by myself and take them back to my current unit on which my rent is paid until Dec 1st. They left me without a fridge or stove for 3 days. Did I mention they said my deposit will be returned in 21 days I also had a homeless person break into my apt. When I was out of state and killed themself in my spare room. I found out when the police called me in Arkansas. I had been texting and calling them for months complaining about the homeless doing drugs and camping on the property . I had complained the day I left too. It was very bloody and I had to throw away a lot of stuff. I told Clemmer and they are supposed to pay to get it sterilized. They told me that it cost them too much that I would have to do it myself. I did not know the person who broke in. Only that he was homeless and hanging out in the property. They are heartless, don't care about tenants and crooked. read more

I applied for a rental and was told that NO ONE HAD APPLIED FOR IT. They mentioned that it would take 1-3 business days, days passed and I heard nothing. I call the office and was told that someone had applied on June 29, a week before I did. Did they lie to me or did someone in the office did not care enough to make sure? The WORST rental company to ever work with ! Been a customer with them since 2021 up until March of 2024 . Workers are rude , they never answer phone calls in the office . Took photos of apartment on move in date after final walk through got a list of damages including damages that were present prior to us moving in . I almost don't know where to begin. I moved in to the apartment complex located at 2501 Bishop Drive (officially) in January of 2020, when the property was still managed by Mission Real Estate. I signed an addendum, witnessed (at the time) by my now-former roommates. I should also note that I had my service dog Zoe with me (more on that later). I kept the original, and Mission made a copy of the addendum for their own purposes. Moving in was surprisingly easy. Fast forward to Spring of that year. Chase Ambrosecchia and Kasmira Jensen (my roommates) abruptly moved out. They had been telling me for MONTHS that they were planning on moving out in either late October or early November, after getting married. For no apparent reason they decided to leave much earlier than I anticipated. Chase told me (at the time) that it was their intention to NOT inform Mission of their departure, so that when I moved out myself I could keep the deposit. See, if Chase and Kasmira gave our landlords a heads up, that would mean breaking their lease and possibly paying a fine in the process. This new plan didn't sit right with me, but what was I supposed to do? Anything I said to the contrary would have just gone in one ear and out the other. Anyway, back on topic. Chase and Kasmira left me holding the bag on an apartment I couldn't afford. I am disabled. My main source of income is a Social Security check that barely covers my living expenses. For the rest of 2020, and for all of 2021, I did absolutely everything I could to make ends meet. I sold off half of my collectibles. I borrowed money from friends and (questionable) family members. I constantly looked for work-from-home jobs that wouldn't put me in danger of having my SSI check taken away. And, whenever I got a stimulus check, I put the majority of it towards rent/other important bills. I am honestly not sure how I made it to the end of 2021 without becoming homeless... but I did. Despite worsening MS symptoms. Despite countless seizures. Despite ALL the odds, I survived. At some point though, the other show had to drop. Now, I don't know how it happened. I don't know if the owner of the property went with a different real estate company or if Mission was bought out by Clemmer. In either case, Clemmer should have retained all of Mission's paperwork regarding my residency - along with any notes added to my file, by a representative. I had consistently fallen behind on the rent due to my declining health and inability to work a real job. Clemmer started harassing me in the form of paperwork taped to my door. Copies of documents that did not bear my name and/or signature. Only those belonging to Chase and Kasmira. This paperwork, mind you, was ALWAYS taped over the Star of David sticker on my front door during Shabbat. I told Clemmer I don't know how many times that Chase and Kasmira no longer lived at that address. Each time I said this, a rep replied with "We'll make a note of it." They never did. The paperwork kept coming, and so I attempted to make a payment arrangement for the amount I owed. I managed to successfully get caught up on the rent once, but soon after fell behind again. On top of that I was also dealing with a LOT of maintenance issues. The AC/heater unit was constantly breaking down, the garbage disposal needed repairs at least a few times, etc. Actually LIVING in that apartment became a matter of life and death. I am not exaggerating. Towards the end of December, I was in the middle of a particularly brutal MS flare. I filled out a maintenance request because the heater wasn't working. The thermostat showed that it was on Heat, but only cold air was coming out of the vent. I have two witnesses that can verify this. The heater WAS broken. The maintenance guy didn't show up until over a week later. When he did, he was rude and generally unprofessional. He wouldn't allow me to see what he was doing to it, said the unit was "brand new" (which was a lie), and once the heat came back on he left. Clemmer charged me $80 for - and I quote - "a heater I said wasn't working when it actually was." Without properly notifying me. And the last time I attempted to make a payment arrangement? I applied for Rent Relief and settled on a $100 a month plan while I waited for the relief to kick in. THE VERY NEXT DAY Clemmer retroactively added a bunch of $50 late fees. Again, without properly notifying me. I had to find out through AppFolio, and I was FURIOUS. It was at that point I realized that Clemmer didn't really care about the money. They just wanted me out. That's why they were harassing me with the wrong papers, the blatant Anti-Semitism, the refusal/failure to honor maintenance requests, and the unnecessary fees. Mind you, I have rented 2 apts from this company, the first time the cleaners came the day we moved in. They also want to charge you for any maintenance you request. I have had friends that also rented from the company, didn't get deposit back because they charged them for the damage that was there BEFORE my friend moved in because the company didn't have the paperwork on file. Yes my friend should have followed up but at the same time, the apt should have known the damages that were there before renting out the property. They had the same issue where the cleaners came the day they moved in so I don't even think a walk through of the place was done before renting out. Rented with this company not too long ago (Unit J, 1918 16th St.) We had to leave because the person below us smoked marijuana all day and it came up through the heater, exposing our baby to secondhand smoke constantly. Complained many times but they did nothing although it's stated in the lease that you can't smoke in the unit. They refused to even take the slightest action.
