I came here because Huell Howser told me to. Yes, I know he's been dead for almost seven years. No, I didn't contact his spirit at a seance where the table moved every time the soothsayer said, "That's uh-may-zing!" Instead, I was watching an old episode of "California's Gold" where he came here after hanging out in Ferndale and pronounced the cider as, you guessed it, uh-may-zing. Apparently Guy Fieri's been here, too, and pronounced it the best cider he's ever had. His opinion is more questionable since he eats grease by the handful. I don't trust anybody on The Food Network anyway. Once your GPS kicks in, it's hard to miss as the location is right off 101 at the 12th Street exit in Fortuna just as you're motoring your way through this particularly sparse stretch of Humboldt County. I was headed north to Eureka, so the handsome farm stand made for a pleasant stop after being dwarfed amid the shadows of the Avenue of the Giants. The freshly crisp Gravenstein apples look tempting (photo: http://bit.ly/2V1gQAJ) as do the bags of Bartlett pears (photo: http://bit.ly/2Nkr7XC). But you come for the cider, my friends, and the mercilessly pressed apples come directly from their own orchards. There was a huge refrigerator full of gallon, half-gallon, and quart containers, and for solitary visitors like me 12-ounce bottles for $2.65 each (photo: http://bit.ly/2UZXoUS). My verdict? Not quite uh-may-zing but very fresh-tasting and gratefully not sweetened. Listen to Huell...even after death. CIDER - 4 stars...fresh apples for sure AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...a striking stand on a rural road SERVICE - 4 stars...very welcoming TOTAL - 4 stars...uh-may-zing adjacent RELATED - Taking an adventure in this part of Northern California? Precious cargo home safe.

Hands down the best Cider I have ever had! Every time I go to the friendly city of Fortuna I bring a cooler(Cider must stay cold)and bring home as much as I can carry. A few gallons are consumed immediately, and a few gallons I freeze and use during the holidays. Just remember to pour a small glass out before freezing. This Cider is powerful stuff so don't try to drink the entire gallon in one sitting or you'll end up with a tummy ache. Everything in moderation my friends. Once this precious cargo arrives at my home we make sure to share, not that you have to but I like seeing pure joy on the faces of friends and family after they take their first taste. I am already thirsty for my next trip.

I think I was expecting more after reading the other Yelp reviews. Certainly not a bad place to stop, and the hot mulled cider was homemade and delicious, but there weren't any baked goods for sale. Too bad because I was in the mood for a cookie. Plenty of cider for sale, obviously, and also some local produce, apple peelers/corers, and cider spices. I was also under the impression that it would be a bigger store. I guess baked goods and candles are a seasonal thing, hopefully they haven't been permanently discontinued as I see that I'm the first to write a review in a while.

    Apple cider & local honey

The apple cider is tart but sweet (if that makes sense) and oh so delicious!! Thirst quenching for sure! We drank it on the ride home from Fortuna to Oakley on the 6 hr drive! Snacked on freshly picked apples too. I also purchased local honey...YUM!! So sweet and perfect for sweetening my coffee! Clendenen's also has many other fresh fruit, veggies and jellies and jam. Priced just right!

Love this place! We brought home about 5 gallons to share with family in So Cal. This cider is delicious. The aroma of the fresh apples is amazing and it taste like liquid gold. They also have pastries, honey, local cheese and fruits and veggies. We will definitely return the next time we're in the area.

Crisp, juicy, yummy apples besides the best cider ever!!

Best cider I've ever had! Family owned and operated with a warm super friendly helpful staff. All kinds of goodies to choose from like bakery goods (the Bavarian Apple Bars are unreal), cookies (mmmm snickerdoodles), fresh made coffee, jams, all kinds of produce, beeswax candles and yes, apples (all kinds of varieties, even some from a hundred year old apple tree)! Really fun stop just off the 101 in Fortuna, CA. And don't forget to take some cider home!
