We had to visit this Humboldt brewery before we left Eureka. It was our last day over the 4th of July weekend. Opening time was 1 pm and it was perfect as it was on the way to our hotel from a morning visit to the town of Ferndale. There were only a few guests when the gates opened but wait times filled up fast as there was only one staff tending the taps and gift shop. We were second in line, so it wasn't much of a wait for us. I ordered a flight of five with regular ABVs (alcohol by volume) which included the iconic Downtown Brown, Harvest Wheat, Peanut Butter Chocolate Stout, Great White and Lost Coast Pilsner. I and the other patrons were bummed that the Indica IPA wasn't on tap so I ended up purchasing a six pack. I wanted a totally different variety of beers when we had dinner at LCB's restaurant a few nights before. The restaurant offers a flight of 6 on tap BTW. I'm more of a wine person when given a choice, but the tasting the brews of LCB was one opportunity I wasn't going to miss while I was here. I like IPA and wheat among the beers but ended up liking all of them. Even the dark stouts. Unlike, the restaurant, they only serve chips (unpacked) and salsa (sealed) here. My wife (designated driver) and son opted to get a taster of their root beer and a couple scoops of ice cream from the gift shop. We ended up purchasing a bright tie-dyed tee LCB tee and a fridge magnet. read more

On our way to dinner, but I guess I gave my wife the wrong GPS address and ended up here, LOL. Quality/Quantity - Sampled all their beer that was NOT available at their cafe. Visited their Cafe Brewery a few days prior. After trying so many samples, I settled for: Scotch Ale & Raspberry Brown (closest to a red). Atmosphere - Good size location, cool decor. Service - 6 stars. Weird that we were the only customers. So got full attention from the two team members. Currently significantly understaffed. As the two team members are only a few weeks new. So no tours, yet. Price - $16 + generous tip. Sunday is the best day to come if you are price conscious. Of course today is Wed... Owner Comments - Congrat on so many successes since 1989. Drove 5.5 hours for my anniversary, only to pay more for a pint than I would have at our local Yard House. Lost Coast is my favourite brewery, but the prices here are obscene. The idea of going to brewery taprooms is that their beers are cheaper than you find them elsewhere (examples: Stones, Knee Deep, Track 7, etc etc etc). The beers are still good, but for that drive, I'm not a fan of paying more than I pay in Roseville. Aside from the prices though, my favourite beer - Sharkinator - appears to be discontinued, but I didn't really get a straight answer out of anyone on that, so it's still a mystery. A lot of things with the service were mysterious though. Seems like one person is there to run the whole operation, so it wasn't exactly prompt in the gift shop, or the taproom. Polite staff though, so that was definitely a plus. Overall, good beer, decent service, sky high prices. Might come back, but I would have to be doing something else in the area. 100% would not make a special trip for this again, nor would I suggest anyone else do the same. If you're in the neighbourhood, and independently wealthy, feel free to drop in for a $7.50 pint of the beer they brew directly outside the windows. Cool building though. I will give it a 2.5 star as its not their fault they are short staffed and not doing tours. The young lady working in the gift shop was very nice and provided excellent customer service. The guy working the bar was getting drinks for a guy who was there with his kids, he didn't even acknowledge our existence. There was no "i will be with you guys in a moment" or anything. Was our first time going in after passing it all the time and it left a sour taste in our mouth. Super disappointing. Was hoping to do a flight to sample some of their beers. Now I've had beers from this brewery before but I've never been to the brewery... so when I knew we were headed up the coast I put it on the list. It's a large facility with a big retail area inside, seating inside and outside, a taproom and a few snacks for purchase (their restaurant taproom is in Old Town Eureka, this is their production facility) We ordered four beers on a flight, a wit, two iPas and a stout and they were all good. Wonderful stop to try some local beer. Extremely friendly (even with 3 littles). Very clean and bathrooms available. Plenty of beers on tap (10+?), lots of souvenirs to purchase and ice cream. If you love beer, this is a great place to go!!! And if you have kids, you can bring them, and there is space for them to play inside and out. Beer lovers, Sundays are a great time to get super deals at the tap. Bring your own growler or buy one there. My hubbie was tickled pink to be able to buy a half a gallon of Scotch Ale at a discount. If you are like me, and you don't like beer, you may be in luck. They make their own delicious root beer! And they serve ice cream. That is right! You can have a root beer float! I had a scoop of double chocolate brownie ice cream added to my root beer--it was fabulous!!! We were lucky. It was sunny. So, we were able to sit in the precious sun (seeing how the lawn was south facing). Also, if you are driving thru on the 101, it is a short drive to get to there. The ambiance is quirky, and there are lots of things to take pictures of. They have friendly service at the tap or at the ice cream serving area. We went this past weekend. It was a Sunday so we were expecting it to be busy but we were the only ones in there for most of the time we were there. A couple of others stopped by but didn't stay long. We had out pup with us and this place is super pet friendly. I think their other location, located more in their downtown area, that has food, does not allow pets. Here, in addition to the brewery, they also have their gift shop and ice cream on site. I also saw some chips so they have small snacks if you need something to nosh on while drinking. There were two workers in there and both were super nice and friendly. They even gave our dog a huge dog treat, Haha. Both my husband and I are huge wheat beer fans. I got a flight and my husband ended up with their blonde ale. The Blonde was light and tasty. For my flight, I got the strawberry wheat, watermelon wheat, apricot wheat and the stargaze wit. I also tried the harvest wheat, which is the base of all the fruity wheats. The strawberry was my favorite. The watermelon tasted like a jolly rancher, a bit too artificial for me. The apricot tasted the most subtle and the least artificial. The wit was very light and refreshing. And the harvest was very blue moon-esque. My flight was $7.75 and a pint was $7. Very inexpensive. I would drink all of these beers again. They're known for their tangerine wheat, which I have seen in a bunch of breweries and grocery/liquor stores. Buti glad I was able to try some of their other fruity beers. read more

We visited Lost Coast Brewery Taproom over the summer. I loved the gift shop and the fun decor and artwork. The staff were really friendly and the guy who doesn't do the tours... gave us a tour (along with another couple) of the brewery because he was awesome like that. Hubby and I tried a sampler of several of their beers and bought some bottles to bring home. We aren't IPA fans but still found some tasty beers to try. It's a large brewery so there was plenty of outdoor space to just relax at a table or some patio chairs and chill with your beer and outdoor food. read more

While on a recent trip to Eureka, California we made a point to stop at the taproom for Lost Coast Brewing Company. When you pull up you realize that this is a pretty large brewery. The taproom is a decent size and there is quite the roomy gift shop to go browsing for their swag here too! We had a couple of their beers and their craft root beer too that we really enjoyed! I had their Harvest Wheat which had a great breadiness to it! We also had a beer that sounded like more of a limited batch, The Hazing Saddles. This was a beer that was creates by one of the brewery's employees as they are letting their staff release a beer of their own making at the taproom. This beer was a New England IPA. This was a very solid beer as well! The craft root beer was wonderful as well with a good, sweet bitey flavor to it. Definitely a must stop and it's usually a desired destination to go to the taproom and take pictures of the shark statue outside but they also have a restaurant downtown with their beer on tap as well! read more

Spent a week in Eureka on vacation and visited Lost Coast Brewery and Cafe twice. It is great to dine at an establishment where the staff appears to love their work. We had a different hostess and waitress each time we were there, and both times we had tremendous service and food. My wife and I highly recommend a visit to this restaurant if you are in the area. read more

I have been a lost coast fan for many years! I finally got an opportunity to stop at the tap room this past Sunday. Very disappointed to say the least. The one employee that was working was not educated at all about their beer selections. I wanted to share my enthusiasm of the beers, so we were attempting to order a flight but from someone who clearly was not the right person for that job. Nice enough, but poor management for having an inexperienced employee selling beer. Then the worst part was the beer was all room temperature!!! Terrible!! We actually didn't even finish the flight. Came here on a Sunday and they had an amazing live band. The atmosphere was great -- people dancing and hanging out, booths selling local goods, band playing great music. The brewery is super cute. There is a fun outdoor area with corn hole, disc golf and connect four as well as a place for pups to walk and use the facilities. The art on the Cornhole is the same art as on their beers. There is art everywhere in their patio area. The great white shark is on display in the front and is as tall as the brewery itself. We went in for a growler fill for a friend only to learn his favorite beer arrgh! is no longer in production and they aren't sure if it is ever going to be produced again. This led us to the merchandise area that also has ice cream. Turns out the bottles in the gift store were cheaper than the growler fill in the taproom. Make sure to do the math when coming here. They were having a bit of trouble with their system being down and a large group in front of us although the person helping us was super friendly and once the group got their many ice cream floats and headed to a table out front, she was able to be more attentive and gave us some tips on what to include in our samplers. She even brought us an extra sample on the side, when we weren't sure whether to try the vanilla or peanut butter stout. A great brew pub with food. I went in about 5 in the afternoon and it was about 3/4 full of happy people and kids. It's a big old building with lots of character. It's clean and full of good things to eat and drink, especially drink, especially if you like beer. There were lots of kids and the ceiling is very tall, probably 20' , so although it was pretty full and everyone was talking it wasn't noisy. I had an Ahi tuna salad and it was great, kind of charred on the outside and rare in the main part. Lots of greens. Very good. Did I mention they have really good beer too. read more

Definitely somewhere for the local-yokels. Have fun coming here if you wanna get COVID. Thankfully, our waitress was quick, kind, and helpful with service. Unfortunately don't remember her name, but I wish her well. The menu on google vs now is drastically different. Understandable because of the pandemic, just a big let down since I came here for a wide selection of seafood. Burgers were good, clam chowder wasn't anything special. Beer selection isn't magnificent, granted I'm from Oregon. I'm giving 3 stars since this place isn't ideal for tourists. If you want seafood, go elsewhere. If you've got young kids, this will do. And if you're even semi-cautious of COVID, get out of here ASAP. read more

Taking a road trip along the coast from Southern California to Oregon/Washington Eureka was a stop on our list, just because I had to visit Lost Coast Brewery! I love the Watermelon Wheat Beer and had it at a local Yard House, and just had to visit the brewery where it's made! I discovered many more flavors that were just as wonderful during our visit! There is something for everyone on tap, so taste a few. You might just find a new favorite! If you are driving along the coast on the 101, make a stop here, do a taster, look around, pay a game and take some photos with the shark out front. I hope to be back again soon! read more

The beers were great and the service was friendly but they needed a second person. The service was slow. I was grateful they let me get ice cream for my kids (who would not have been happy other wise while they waited for us to have a beer) but that meant the beers took longer because the staff person had to leave the beer area to get the ice cream. This is a MUST visit when in Eureka. Their flights are $6.50 and come with 4 decent sized tasters. All the beers that I've tried from here have been great. The outside area is nice, too. Opened in 2014 this mega micro brewery was "hopping" the day we stopped by. Apparently it was their kickoff to start canning beer as well as bottling it; VIP party going full swing but the meager public could still get a pint in the tasting room...or buy a Tshirt with cool Cubist beer art logos...or get ice cream! I just had a taste or two. The barmaids were super friendly and knowledgeable of all the . You can try several in a flight or get a pint or pitcher. I settled on the Sharkinator, a smooth, light summer beer. Perfect! Note: aside from chips and ice cream there is not food here. If u want a meal and some Lost Coast go to their restaurant in Eureka - site of the original brewery. Definitely worth a stop if you are on the 101 North Coast! read more

My husband, a few friends & I stopped by on their first day opening back up after Covid restrictions were lifted. We got there a little after 1pm, when they opened & immediately saw a line. No biggie, since it was their first day. But, what got me was, if this is your first day opening back up, on a Saturday, why is there only 1 "beertender"? Not only was he having to pour beer, the gift shop was "closed", yet he had to stop pouring to help customers who wanted items from the gift shop. Finally, someone came to help him, but instead of helping people who were next in line, she started helping people behind me because they wanted to shop the gift store. After our first round, my husband & friend got in line to get more brews. As they got to the bar top, the "beertender" & person who was supposed to be helping him seemed to be rather involved in their own conversation instead of helping the customers & the growing line. I love this beer & was super excited to go, especially since we had driven up from Southern California. But, the lack of staffing made my visit less than memorable. This is the only reason I'm giving Lost Coast three stars: the misunderstanding of management to think 1 staff member would be sufficient on their first day of reopening. Hopefully, when I make it back up, the cafe will be back open since we have always had a great experience there. read more
