My wife enjoys knitting, so we came here specifically to check it out. The store is spacious and has a great selection of yarn in different colors, along with weaving looms, knitting tools, buttons, and plenty of other supplies. Everything is well organized, and it's easy to spend a lot of time looking through all the different options. Even though I don't knit myself, I enjoyed walking around and taking photos while my wife picked out yarn. The whole shop has a warm, creative atmosphere. Definitely worth visiting if you're into knitting or other fiber crafts. read more

OMG - I had no idea that this place even existed. So glad that i stumbled upon it - looking for some yarn last minute for a halloween costume for my kid - not your average yarn store. The yarn is NOT CHEAP SHIT. Beautiful and colorful inside. They even have a cafe that serves coffee and bakery items. They offer classes too for knitting and crocheting So cute. Had a fun experience here and the young woman at the front was SUPER helpful and sweet and very welcoming. read more

Love, love Cleo's! My wife asked for knitting stuff for Christmas, and while on the hunt, found this gem of a place! The employees are very helpful, and knowledgeable, and keep this place nice and tidy and clean! Great selection of teas and treats too (very reasonably priced) if you plan on hanging out and knitting alone, with friends or in one of their many classes! Brought my wife here after Christmas and had a blast relaxing with her as she knitted, and I sipped my cold brew! It can get real busy, so get here and find a seat among their many tables and lounge area! read more

This store has such a welcoming feeling with bistro tables outside, couch area inside. Spacious and brightly lit. Cleo was in the cafe area making a drink for another but welcomed me and asked if I needed help. I was specifically looking for non- superwash wool in sport or merino weight for the Arne & Carlos mystery stocking KAL. Unfortunately, I was only able to get the sport weight in green (500g when I needed 100g) and got a white dk in super wash. There's a very nice selection of yarns but I was in there with one purpose so I didn't really browse. She has Ito yarns and lots of CocoKnits items. There are Lykke needles. She asked me if wanted my yarn wound -- I usually forget to ask and end up having to do it when I get home. Great customer service. I was able to find free street parking just a few steps away. read more

This is probably going to be my last review for 2023 and always good to end on a happy note! I heard about Cleo's Yarn Shop from some of my knitting friends at a knit night. I wanted to visit to see for myself and I see why my knitting friends like this place. For starters, it was bright inside, very inviting. Even if you've never knitted, crocheted or done any fiber arts for that matter, you would want to start after coming to this place. The employee (I wish I got her name) was available and approachable if you had questions but didn't hover and let you roam around to feel up the lovely yarn. When I asked if they have classes, she told me that they do in fact hold classes and she handed me a schedule where I can register online. I didn't feel pressured to buy anything and you can tell that there wouldn't be any judgment. They even have events such as BIPOC Craft Circle and Queer Craft Club. They also have Happy Hour--knitting and drinking, sounds good to me! It's a bit of a hike for me to get to as I'm in Crown Heights but I think it was worth the hike and would visit again. I never write reviews but as a fiber artist I really wanted to love this place :/ it's so great in theory but not only is the selection extremely overpriced and not great (1 singular lace weight option and it's mohair lol) but the last three times I went I had a horrible experience service wise. The first time an employee kept invading my personal space forcing me to move over from the yarn I was checking out, reaching over me and shouting across the room to a coworker getting a few inches away from my face with no acknowledgment of my existence. One time is ok, four times? Am I invisible?? The second time I went there was only one other customer in the store. The two employees greeted my friend and I, then for the next 10 minutes proceeded to have the loudest personal conversation , again across the entire store, gossiping about some family problems that were honestly kind of triggering to listen to. Two minutes into looking at the yarn, I was already overstimulated from how loud they were and stressed trying to tune out the gossip. I waited for about 5 minutes for them to stop for a second so I could ask for lace yarn. When they finally stopped talking, one of the employees turned to address the woman who was there first and was actually waiting to continue to be helped. Then what seemed like the customers male date walked in, they greeted like they had never met. The employee then proceeds to talk to the man about where he is from.. the customer had to then remind the employee that she Still needed help. I apologize for the long read but I had to get this off my chest! I really hope something changes there, it has the potential to be such an amazing space, it's a shame that the employees make the vibe so unwelcoming and stressful. read more

I wanted to love this place even though it's out of my way(I don't live in Brooklyn). The shop itself is nice and spacious and looks like a nice place to sit and knit for a bit. I was even considering signing up for a weaving class. But then I looked at my receipt and noticed I was charged a fee for using a credit card! ( good thing I asked for one because it wasn't automatically offered, either). I understand businesses feeling the need to recoup the fees THEY'RE charged by CC companies but at least WARN the customer. Of course, that might change some minds and people might not buy. I didn't have enough cash on hand for my purchase and I would have had to leave without the yarn. I won't be purchasing again. read more

I happened on Cleo's while biking around Brooklyn and the owner, Cleo, could not have been more kind. I don't even knit or crochet but her shop was so gorgeous I HAD to stop. Not only was she so kind to someone who, upfront, told her they didn't work with yarn but she was encouraging and answered all of my questions on how to get started. This shop is great-- everything is beautifully laid out. There's a great selection of yarn in the most fun colors, cool books/magazines, and great selection of accessories. Cleo was kind, enthusiastic, willing to help with any project, and all around super helpful (she helped me navigate the Raverly website to find a pattern- there are tricks to this!). This same energy is lacking in all the other yarn shops I visited in NYC; everyone seems so jaded everywhere else ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Cleo's got some great classes, not just knitting (eg, crocheting, learn to weave, punch needle), and she's opened to suggestions, which is awesome. In the same shop is Heartbreaker Cameras, which offers repair services and sells vintage cameras. What a cool concept for a shop. I highly recommend visiting this shop. read more
