Homemade deliciousness!!! We just had the most delightful lunch here. The hubs had a gigantic loaded cheeseburger with potato salad and I had the meatloaf sandwich with a side of lima beans. We took a spring break road trip to Colorado from Greensboro, NC. We stopped here on our way out as it was a local well reviewed spot on our route. It was so good, we also ended up stopping again on our way home. Folks, this is a roadside diner that oozes character. This is not a fast casual restaurant. If you don't appreciate local flair then this is not the place for you. The diner is small so for us (family of 6) we had to wait just a bit to get 2 tables. Service was very friendly and efficient but the food was the star their burgers are some of the best we have ever had. I had the mushroom swiss burger (both times) and I can't think of another burger I have had that was its equal. Plus, you can't beat crinkle cut fries and fried mushrooms. Not to mention, the prices were exceptionally reasonable. I hope we make another cross country trip soon just to pop in again to this great little diner. If you are in Frankfort, lucky you. We were in town last weekend, visiting Buffalo Trace and we're looking for somewhere to have breakfast, happened to find this gem, and I cannot say enough good things about it ! The food was delicious, the service was great, but the absolute best part was the ambience. We sat at the counter and bantered with the cook Gina, who was an absolute hoot! The amount of love that goes into this food really shows it's just good old fashion, diner, food, we had such a great time that the next day we canceled our reservations for brunch at the place we were going to and went back to Cliffside. Hardworking folks putting out a tasty breakfast. Husband had the chicken fried steak and eggs with house potatoes. Steak is good and potato crispy on outside and soft on the inside, white gravy just the right amount of pepper. I opted for the fried bologna sandwich and it did not disappoint. Thanks to Yelp I found a lovely place to dine between bourbon tours! Posed truly on a cliff by the KY river, there is not a ton of parking, lucky for us it was a slow day. Also, make sure you back in, it's quite tricky to see when leaving if you don't. We were warmly greeted and invited to sit wherever. Lined with a bar and booths we chose a booth and ordered cokes. The menu is down home diner food, burgers, hot brown, country fried steak, etc. My boyfriend had the Cliffside Burger and I ordered the hot brown. My hot brown was everything it should be, layers of ham, turkey, and bacon piled high on bread with tons of cheese and a tomato. My boyfriends burger was also delicious and perfectly cooked. Well-known for their various burgers, I had the country ham sandwich on white toast with a little mayo and some fresh sliced tomatoes to go with the delicious saltiness of the smoked meat, a couple of grill-fried pieces which fell out of the stuffed sandwich and onto my tongue. This place was a pleasant surprise! We don't live in Frankfort but visited this wonderful little greasy spoon diner for lunch based on yelp reviews and it didn't disappoint. A small venue literally on the side of a cliff in Frankfort (a local spot) where everyone knew everyone else! We realized we were the only ones nobody knew but that was okay bc of the friendly, family atmosphere! The menu had an array of options, we went with the coney dogs and hamburger! Both were very good, burger was fresh and chili was perfect for a hot dog! I also ordered the color slaw and it was the perfect sweet that I love! For two drinks, fries, burger, slaw and two coney dogs our total was $20, so very reasonably priced! We will definitely visit again, next time breakfast....the menu looked fabulous! read more

Really average diner food. They don't really make anything spectacular that you couldn't easily make yourself at home. If you are in the mood for a diner or don't feel like cooking, this place will do the job, but you definitely won't be blown away by the food itself. I was thinking of going to Arby's, but Yelp told me Cliffside was nearby (right around the corner) so I thought I'd give it a try. It's basically an old diner, cozy and friendly. More charming than a chain, for sure, but nothing super unique. It's a tiny little place with a TV at one end, a long counter, a single row of tables, and bathrooms at the far end. Capital City charm for sure at Cliffside. So we had breakfast classics. I did ask, and the cook makes the biscuits and the gravy in house. An order of fried potatoes was a surprise. These were thinly sliced and quick fried, kind of like potato chips, but thicker and more breakfast appropriate. The chicken fried steak is premade frozen, and of course cooked to order. Quite a bit of the menu is made in house. In the past we have tried a number of other menu items, and they have alwats been simple diner without fuss. The cooks and servers are extremely friendly. We enjoy the honesty and calmness of the place. When you visit, expect decent food and friendly service. Eat well, tip well. read more

Mini road trip to Frankfort for a lunch with another couple today. A return to the Cliffside Diner was in order. As stated once before on FB, if you require white table cloths, ever attentive service, and gourmet food, go somewhere else. If you like pretty good basic offerings with a big variety of choices and sides, you've come to the right place. When we arrived every seat but one was occupied and that was after the lunch rush hour. Our waitress was helpful, our food was good, and the conversation was great. If you entertain any thoughts of trying the place, better go soon as there was a for sale sign attached to the building. Our waitress said she didn't know why. You really want to like a great looking old school diner like Cliffside. I just can't. Not when most of the food on the menu was frozen and canned. Very little homemade anything like you would expect from a diner rated this high. Had the cheeseburger. It was good - old school hand formed patty. Served on a bun you'd find in your grocery store shelf. The onion rings were pulled out of a freezer bag - nothing special. Same for the fries. THIS IS A TRUE DINER! It felt like it was in the middle of nowhere on the side of the road; something you would see in a movie from the 1950's or before. We were coming back from a bourbon trail tour and someone in my car suggested lunch and found this gem on google apparently. We all sat at the bar of course. Most ordered the Cliffside Burger which looked outstanding. Those who ate it said the same! I chose the double cheeseburger, cooked to perfection. Something about the taste of a good diner burger. To top it off, I had a big slice of freshly homemade butter pecan pie with a cream cheese frosting. Damn was it good. The diner was stellar, the service was stellar, and the food was stellar.
