Had lunch at Ricardo's in Versailles, Ky the other day. It is in a old Southern Railway Station. It has a strong vintage train influence inside and out. It is very green inside Southern green as a matter of fact. I enjoyed all the architectural derails. They offer a full bar and lunch menu. We were seated quickly and the server took our drink order quickly and we ordered some onion straws. The plate was piled high and they were crisp, warm and delicious. I ordered the hot brown. It was completely covered in cheese and mornay sauce. My wife ordered the ribs. They had just the right amount of sauce and the meat was falling off the bone. The restroom was clean and the train motif was there too. Outside seating would be available if the weather was better. If you are a fan of trains you should eat here. We absolutely enjoyed our dinner when we were staying in Versailles. We took a chance on Ricardo's based on Google reviews, and it was a great decision. Service was quick and friendly, the restaurant is in a historic old train building. We got the fried pickles as an appetizer, and they were absolutely amazing! For entrees I got the tenderloin medallions with a baked potato, and broccoli. My husband ordered the catfish, he said it was okay, but would have preferred the ribs and they were out. My friend got the steak tips, and said they were quite good with the macaroni and cheese. Overall, if we're in the area doing the bourbon trail again, we will be back. Also, we enjoyed a couple of the craft cocktails. He had an old-fashioned, and I enjoyed the Jim Beam Aloha. read more

To be honest, I wanted to like this restaurant more than I actually did. I went in thinking I'd get great food, and I was underwhelmed. On the plus side, I really like the atmosphere. But why do you go to a restaurant? You're looking for incredible food. The kind you can't make at home. I think on this one Ricardo's was a miss. Let me break it down... Catfish platter (fried) ~ really good, not great. Of all the meals, this one would be the one I'd recommend. The cole slaw that came with it -- unfortunately tasteless. Catfish platter (blackened) ~ limited seasoning led to lack of flavor. I can do better at home. You don't want to say that. Broccoli casserole ~ served to us room temperature. You've got to do better than that. Sirloin ~ good, but again, nothing spectacular. Could do better at the house. New Orleans pasta ~ not that great the day we got it. Took leftovers home and it was much better the next day after it had time to pull in all the spices. Granny Smith Apple salad ~ way overpriced for what you get here. Shockingly so for what you get. In the end, I'd like to say I'd be back. But the restaurant business is extremely competitive. You have to hook the customer the first time. They didn't do that. And I can name you ten restaurants right now within 20 miles that have incredible cuisine. I'm just doubtful I'll chance this one again. read more

Ricardo's is in an old train depot and the atmostphere is pretty much a pub. Nicely decorated and big enough to hold a crowd. The food is where this place really wins. I got the Shrimp and Grits which was outstanding. I'm from Kentucky originally but live in GA and I thought I'd had some good grits but good gravy these were amazing. The grits were creamy and delicious, the shrimp well cooked, and the sausage was nice and spicy! I could eat these grits for a meal without the shrimp or sausage and I'd be pleased and I don't eat things without meat often. The bread pudding had a nice bourbon cream sauce on it and was also outstanding. Bread pudding is one of my favorite deserts and this one was no slouch. My wife got the hot brown and while I don't have a pic of it she says it's her favorite of the places we've been to. read more

We have always loved dining here. Our experience this time was terrible. The young ladies service was excellent however the signature pork medallions were gone and we got ribs that tasted like they were a week old I have recommended many people to go here for the pork medallions. Been here three times within the last year and finally doing a review. Love the outdoor patio here and the inside bar area. Staff is friendly and helpful. Never had to wait long on getting our food. The first two times I've been the food was spot on. However, this time the food was just okay. Nothing great but will definitely come back and give them another shout. Today we visited Ricardo's at 11:30. We were greeted and seated immediately. Our hostess was attentive and noticed we had a toddler with us. She thought ahead and brought us a booster and a kids menu. We were seated on the patio which was nicely covered with fans as well! Our waitress was thoughtful and while taking our drink order asked if we wanted our son's food to be put in first. Service was amazing. The food was ordered quickly and came out hot and fresh. The bar area has high top and bar seating and a dining area. Love the relaxed vibe. Several beers on tap and cocktails specials and of course lots of bourbon to choose from. Our server at the bar Was super. Quick and she got it all correct but never wrote anything down. Our meal was only $68. We thought that was an incredible deal for the environment and the food was delicious! My husband had the steak with green beans and baked sweet potato and he said it was cooked perfectly. I had the salmon with broccoli and baked sweet potato and it was perfect. Came out very hot and fresh. Really nice place for lunch. My friends wanted to sit on the patio and I haaaate sitting on the patio. The weather was lovely but the traffic noise is so distracting for me. Our server was very pleasant and took good care of us. I had the club sandwich and some French fries. The server didn't write anything down but the order came out perfectly. And was put together really well. My iced tea was filled almost as frequently as I needed. (Another reason I don't like patios-no line of sight to my Empty glass!) haha!! Great dinner. After a ride on the rails 4 of us had dinner at Ricardo's and it did not disappoint. It was 6.45 on a friday night but we were seated immediately and our waiter took our order as soon as we were ready after pursuing the menu. We opted to split two dinners. Dinner # one--2 four oz filet medallions with cole claw and baked potato. The meat was cooked to perfection, medium rare, slaw was creamy and baked potato was loaded, with butter, sour cream, chives, cheese and bacon and puping hot. Dinner # 2--1/2 rack of ribs and chicken tenders with ranch and bbq sauce for dipping served with hot and crispy french fries and green beans. Between the 4 of us we ate every bite. We all enjoyed the ribs, the cole slaw, fries and baked potato, green beans and tenders. And 3 of us enjoyed the steak. It was too rare for one of our party. For dessert we had the banana pudding and the bread pudding. We could not come to a consensus on which was better. Both excellent. Stopped by with my Bourbon trail crew on our way between distilleries. We needed a quick bite, and this place fit the bill perfectly. Server was attentive and pleasant with our crew...took orders efficiently and kept our drink cups filled at all time (including offering us to-go cups since she knew we were up against some time constraints). I ordered a Kentucky hot brown open-faced sandwich and it was just what I'd expected from such a dish! The white bread was piled high with slices of ham, turkey, bacon and tomato, then drenched with Mornay sauce and shredded cheddar jack cheese before being placed under a broiler to get it all good and browned up hot. This sucker was a carb overload and I was soon in a food coma. Good thing I still had to drive down to Bardstown!!! After the extraordinary ride on Rail Explorers, we decided to eat here at the gift shop worker highly recommended it. For a Saturday night we only had to wait 20 minutes. The atmosphere is pleasing and our wait person was exceptional. It was nice to finally eat somewhere where we didn't have to ask to replace dirty silverware. All our meals were spot on. The appetizers, however, were not. The mozzarella sticks were not hot and therefore very chewy. The fried pickles, which we were so looking forward to, were not hot and were soggy. The onion straws looked good but also suffered by being not hot and soggy. I would recommend any of the meals, just don't waste your money on appetizers. read more

Great atmosphere! We sat at a high top in the bar so no waiting. Theres music but not so loud you can't hear each other, this is a big plus for use we had the bruschetta for an appetizer, I'm used to more balsamic but it was still good. My entree was the filet medallions with a side salad and broccoli casserole. The salad was excellent with homemade ranch, (husband had blue cheese and said it was excellent) broccoli casserole was a great change. If I had any complaint it would be my medallions needed some seasoning. The other entree was shrimp and grits and it was fantastic! We ended with banana pudding which is large enough for two! We stopped here after a train ride at the Bluegrass Railroad Museum. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside. This is an old depot station so it has great ambiance. The waitress was wonderful, very attentive. We started with chips n salsa, fried green tomatoes, a beer and an iced tea. They don't have a specialty drink menu but she named a few specials and I got a Tito's based lemonade that was very good. The chips n salsa is what you'd expect. The fried green tomatoes were not what I expected. There was very little breading and the sauce on top was overwhelming (Thai chili balsamic). I couldn't eat it but took them to my parents and they loved them. For entrees we chose the Bluegrass Conspiracy which was a big pulled pork BBQ sandwich with fries. It was good. I got the KY hot brown. It was huge and had all the ingredients of a typical dish but I have to say Ramsey's hot brown is better. We were full and opted out of dessert but the menu looked good. We had a great time and meal here. Theres just something about train stations as restaurants or bars that is so cool. Especially when the owners take such great care to keep as much original as they can! Ricardos does that nicely. The bar area has many of the old doors and such framed out still and the room's warmth really reflects its beautiful past. Food was great to. We started with the green pepper rings- so flavorful and moved on to a salad for my chick and a crab cake with steamed broccoli. Yes a crab cake in KY! Only stopped because it was one of the only places open on a Sunday as we drove through. I'm so glad we did because it met our needs perfectly. We were not terribly hungry, were short on time, but needed something in between distillery tours to match the level of liquor we were consuming. We were seated immediately, service was excellent, food was astoundingly fast, and everything was delicious. The Reuben was the best I've ever had, the ratio of bread:meat: sauerkraut:swiss: dressing was absolutely perfect. The champagne vinaigrette on the salad is light and tangy and made in house. Reasonable prices. So glad we found this gem. Only dislike was the unbelievable amount of TV's. But I get that it's supposed to be a pub, I just prefer to talk to the people I dine with than to stare at screens. read more

Lunch was included in the price of the Mint Julep tour, and we stopped for lunch at Ricardo's after the first distillery. Because we were part of the tour, we couldn't order off the regular menu; instead, we were given a choice of four items: chicken Caesar salad; club sandwich (a two-layer turkey and ham sandwich on toast, with lettuce, tomato, bacon, American cheese, and mayo); Kentucky Hot Brown (ham, turkey, bacon, and tomato on white bread, with Mornay sauce and shredded cheddar jack cheese); and the Bluegrass Conspiracy (a barbecue pulled pork sandwich, served on a Brioche bun, topped with beer cheese, caramelized onions, and bacon). Notice a theme? With the exception of the Caesar salad, everything has pork (which I don't eat), and nothing is gluten-free. So if you're a celiac (there were some celiacs on the tour), vegetarian, don't eat pork, or have any food issues, you were out of luck. Also, the choices were so unhealthy, particularly the Kentucky Hot Brown which was covered in cheese sauce. I ended up ordering a modified club sandwich, but it wouldn't have been my first choice. Also, they serve Pepsi products (yuck!), and they don't have ginger ale as a beverage option. Perhaps this review is unfair as I am only reviewing it based on a specialized menu made for a tour group, but I was not impressed with the options we were given, and a few non-pork, healthier, gluten-free options would have been appreciated.
