We were traveling thru KY on our way home to WI. I was looking for a place to stop off for lunch and found this Diner in Yelp. It was about 5 miles off the Interstate but worth it. The parking is a little hairy as you angle park right along the highway. We noticed some of the vehicles were parked backed in. There is a curve in the road coming up to the diner and having your vehicle facing the road to leave is a good idea. The diner is approached walking through the outside deck. We were going to sit outside on the deck but needed to use the restrooms first. Well, you snooze, you lose because when we got out of the restroom the outside seating was filled. We ended up eating inside at a small booth. There are counter stools But they ere currently off limits for every couple of stools s they were socially distancing. It was a treat sitting inside where all the action is. The cooks were entertaining with signing while cooking up delicious meals. Hubby had the Cliffside burger with a side of corn bread (have to have cornbread when in the South) This burger is 10 Oz of ground Chuck with 3 cheese's, bacon, grilled onion and special sauce on Texas toast. He had 1/4 of it to take out and finish later. It was tasty and filling. I had the hamburger steak that came with grilled onions and a choice of brown or white gravy and two sides. I chose the brown gravy with cornbread and mashed potatoes and brown gravy. The cornbread looks like small pancakes and were delicious. My husband asked for honey but they said they were out. Butter was provided. I ordered a side of Lima beans that were delicious with a flavorful seasoning. The hamburger steak and homemade mashed potatoes/gravy was tasty and I took half of it with me for dinner. This seems to be a popular lunch spot as it was busy on a Wednesday afternoon. The menus has both lunch and breakfast items. We didn't have room for desert nor after our last leg of vacation did we want anymore dessert but they sure looked appealing. If we came this way again in our travels we will certainly stop off to this little jewel and try more of their menu. Maybe even dessert. read more

We stopped here during a road trip to get some lunch. The wife ordered a pretty awesome cheeseburger identified as award winning in the city of Louisville- the Cliffside Burger. This comes on Texas toast. I tried it and agree with her assessment that it deserves whatever award it got. Apparently the word has gotten around as we randomly heard a woman in Chicago talking about her fond memory of the same burger. I had a salad salad with bean soup. The corn bread that came with it was too sweet. However, the soup was good. I enjoyed that more than the salad, which was unremarkable. We came here for brekkie. The first thing you get here is home. The place just screams home, good food and friends. Everyone acts like this is the best place to be! Well my chick and I have to agree. It's a legit diner but of course with Covid all the fun diner stuff has to take a backseat to safety. Well okay, Cliffside says no problem. Food was great, the coffee was bottomless and excellent. I had the biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs. You know It's a fave, and here it was superb. My chick got a veggie omelet, she wasn't disappointed and we took some of that home too! This is a perfectly fine place to grab breakfast. I ordered the chicken fried steak with scrambled eggs. The portion was fair. The chicken patty was slightly processed but not fake-tasting. When I first entered this old school diner located on a cliff, hence the name Cliffside Diner, I immediately noticed that they had won an award for the best burger in Frankfort. I don't know if it is or not, as I don't eat in Frankfort often, but I'm pretty confident that if it isn't then it is one of them. One thing you'll notice about Cliffside is that it's gonna be crowded on a weekend. That's a great sign of a quality business. My daughter went with the cheeseburger, and my son and I went with the more robust Cliffside burger. Both are excellent, and are quite different. The cheeseburger is the traditional American standard, and they season it well. The Cliffside has a huge amount of beef on it (almost too much, but I'm not complaining), and has a more patty melt feel to it. Because of the size, it was a little unwieldy in sandwich form, so I ended up eating mine with a fork, which was just fine. I loved it. If I have any complaint, it is that they are a little stingy on the fries. But, to be honest, I was so full from the Cliffside that I probably wouldn't have finished any extras anyway. Cliffside Diner is pure Americana. I went in and they were playing the songs "Mama Tried" by Meryl Haggard and "Mule Skinner Blues" by Dolly Parton. This is what you want in your life, even if you don't know it right now. Wherever you're at, it's gonna make you feel better. In the end, that's what we're all looking for in an experience, right? We just learned about this place after living here for a year while standing in the Buffalo trace line on a Saturday morning. The woman from Lawrenceburg swore they had the best cheeseburger and I'm here to tell you we experienced it today! It was almost as good as In-N-Out in California! The atmosphere is very retro diner, and the service ladies were awesome! Especially loved the pink haired, singing chef! Kind of heading off the beaten path, but well worth it! Looked for a place to stop by for a bite to eat during our stay in Frankfort. Built in the side of a cliff, it is a small little dinner but the food has HUGE flavor. They seem to always be busy but we were able to sit at the counter directly across from the grill. I ordered the Cliffside Burger which is served with tartar sauce on Texas Toast. I asked for mine without sauce. It was so flavorful, juicy & absolutely scrumptious. I also received some very large crinkle cut fries. I was a piggy and ate the whole thing! We were going to come back the next day but our travels took us in another direction but we place this on the list for next year's trip. I would recommend this diner to everyone. After spending the morning at a distillery, we dropped in for a late lunch. This looks like the kind of place where everyone around town knows everyone else and you're sure to stick out if you're not from around these parts. The first employee greeted us in the parking lot and the second before we cleared the entrance threshold. Our server, Amber, welcomed us like longtime friends; she chatted about the menu and the town. We ordered Cliffside Burgers, which are thick juicy burgers with three kinds of cheese, crisp bacon, and grilled onions. You're simply not going to believe how good it is until the first bite hits your palate! We chose chili cheese fries (they were crisp, drenched in chili, topped with a large mound of yummy cheese) and onion rings (perfect crispy crunchy outside and a soft juicy inside) as our sides and their fresh brewed iced tea to drink, it really is fresh. It takes a few minutes because they make everything fresh; it is so worth the short wait! Even on vacation, it's a rare day that I get to enjoy lunch with my husband without interruptions. Amber made it happen! She never interrupted our conversation but our glasses were never empty, she anticipated what we would ask for next and just like magic, it appeared!
