I expressed I need of my boots being polished as if I was still in the Marines because I'll be going back to work for the government on Monday. I walked in with my boots looking one way, and left with them looking the same way. The gentleman explained to me is been shining shoes for over 17 years. I did not see that in the product that he gave me back upon my departure. Great conversation , however the service to the boots were very poor. Shame on him. I WOULD NOT recommend this shiner to anyone. Now I have to spend my time on Sunday after church service getting this These boots ready. Go figure, I'm hired to be the INSTRUCTOR. How can I stand in front of my recruits looking this way.

Today I went to a beautiful breakfast and I am all suit, tie, slacks, and a sports coat. I decided to get my shoes shined. I stand there for a few minutes and wait. I ask "Excuse me sir, are you cash only?" No answer. I ask a few more times and get no answer. Finally the white gentleman in the chair getting his shoes shined leans over the to the shoeshine man and says "That gentleman is asking you a question." The shoeshine man does not reply. The costumer points me out two more times. Finally the shoeshine man without looking over at me says "twenty dollars for boots!" I explain I don't have boots. The shoe shine man is from a Spanish speaking country. There is an Italian couple standing there with me. I say to them that I am sadly used to these situations as a black American. The female in the couple says I am wrong and seeing this incorrectly. I explain that I wish she was right. Maybe he is just strange she declares. She fails to see that her white male partner had no problems getting attention and a response. So there I stood on the verge of angry and tired tears trying to make a person of another country believe that the experiences of black people in America were real and valid. She was dismissive in a 'this can't be true' way. I told her I wish she was right. I am on day 13 of a 17 trip around the country in this mess. My shoes are scuffed and not buffed. I have my money in my pocket. Phoenix Shoe Shine was not the best in the city today. I made an effort to speak to the shoeshine man after all of this, but he still would not look at me. This is moment and the countless others are why when I heard about the NAACP case against American Airlines I was inclined to believe.

For the quality service I expected it to be more. I wear my shoes till they disintegrate. To me a great pair of shoes are really hard to find, and when I find them, I believe in caring for them as best I can. Going to have this done was so cool!!
