I AM NOT DISAPPOINTED AT ALL THIS FOOD IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and definitely lived up to the VERY HIGH expectations that i had and i could be wrong but most places usually charge for extra tartar sauce (i ordered through doordash and stated i was pregnant lol) and i was given a very generous amount of tartar on the side. I was back in town today and wanted some fish. Now I should have known better because the last time I went over a year ago I was given nothing but half tail pieces of Crocker for my fish order. Today I ordered the flounder and shrimp combination platter. Everything and I mean everything was so greasy I couldn't eat it. It tasted like it was fried in very old grease and it smelled the same as well. I'm not sure who is cooking now but ordering food to go is not the same and the taste is just not there besides the heavy saturation of grease. I just left there and their customer service was the worst. I waited in line like everyone else to place an order. When I get to the front of the line to place my order, the cashier decides to listen to someone on the side of her and starts taking the order of these 2 white men that is behind me. I am trying not to be a mad black woman, so I say to the cashier Mary that these men are behind me and she says yeah I know and still proceeds to getting their order. After getting them 5pounds of shrimp and 4 knives now she says ok now let me get you and starts laughing. I let her know that I do not find anything funny about this whole situation. Clifton's has always been a busy fish market , I stopped by yesterday picking up dinner for my mother in law & the order was a call in for 10 piece whiting , 10 piece flounder & a shrimp dinner. My total was $24.58 waited over 30 min because I got there at 4:24pm I understood they were busy , finally got my order at 510pm then the older lady wanted to charge $3.74 for cocktail sauce and hot sauce . I paid and left in a hurry because I also had a appt to get to. I look at my bank statements they have charged me $26.74 & $24.70. No one answers the phone on Sundays so , they will not be getting my business again and watch what they charge you all. read more

I advise you to mention to the cook while ordering in advance to make sure that the shrimp are lightly fried. One cook prepares them perfectly while another one tends to over fry them. The food is very good, fresh, and reasonably priced. Great hush puppies and fish! It is a fish market after all, so the ambiance is nil. Served half pieces of whole fish that was cold. Cook had an attitude. Manager was reluctant to make it right, but did with what seemed like some of the same fish mixed with fresh cooked half pieces of fish. This place use to have good service years ago. Now it is a hit or miss. They need to be more consistent with fresh hot food. Some of the fish seem to not be well cooked the first time too. I've been going to Clifton's since I was in college. It is one of the best seafood markets in Columbia. Off the busy road of Decker Blvd, be careful pulling in the parking lot can be a task especially since it can be full of cars at times. Fridays are the busiest days which is when I have to either wait for a parking spot or pull in the neighboring shopping center. Clifton's is a seafood market as well a restaurant for to go orders. Every thing, minus the coleslaw is kicked to order. Because it is a fish market the smell is strong. However, do not let that deter you from the cooked to order deliciousness they are serving up! I usually get the shrimp dinner which comes with about 12 shrimp, 3-4 hushpuppies, fries, and coleslaw. Over the years I have tried the fish in a combo platter. Everything has an amazing taste. The food is not overly seasoned or underseasoned. Truly, just right. Again, everything is cooked to order so it is fresh and there is a wait. Especially, since there's usually only one person in the kitchen and one person running the register and manning the phone. If you want to cut your wait down by just a few minutes, call ahead. The patience is well worth it. The shrimp are crispy and fried golden brown, hushpuppies are fried and have a sweetness to them. The coleslaw is pre-made like your typical chopped up pre-made coleslaw with a little sweet taste. The fries are good too lightly seasoned and fried. I recently tried the fried oysters and let me tell you, my mom and I are hooked. So fresh, perfect flavor, fresh and hot. Definitely a must try and I am not even huge on oysters and I still recommend them. You get a good portion too. The food is decently priced. The customer service is pretty good as well. I never felt like I did not want to return or file a complaint. Everyone has always been pretty nice and accommodating when I am placing my order or I ask for silverware or tartar sauce. In addition, my order is always accurate and I cannot mention enough how fresh and hot it is every single time. Waiting in your car is an option to be Covid safe plus mask are worn. Worst customer service ever. I called and requested Fish with heads on repeatedly told them not to remove the Head. Still, my Son picked up the order with Fish without heads. They don't know how to cook their fish, no salt or spices . Very blend! The worst thing is the wait . They do not have a system in place to accommodate everyone. they don't care about your order. They pack the fish, so hot without poking the box to breathe. I came to this store because I was told they had the best fresh seafood in town. I was in town visiting from Virginia Beach, VA and I am a seafood lover . I am so disappointed with the customer service in this place . I felt as though I was racial profiled and they only help a certain group of people. I waited 30 mins before I got help with my order . Also a caucasian women working was making tea and she had the worst cough . It is not sanitary at all and if you are sick to need to stay home. I opened the order before leaving the restaurant and there was no bread fir my sandwich,when I brought it to the attention of the cashier she said, "I don't have no bread . Didn't they put in hush puppies?" I asked another the cake option per the sign net to her right wrist, she replied, "No cake". This is the only seafood place I know and I feel like I'm held hostage by that. They are often rude when you call in an order and once you arrive. They do not purge crawfish before cooking them so they are filthy, caked with mud. They are not doing a great job of social distancing resulting in more than 10 ppl inside the small lobby. Called in order for a dozen crabs two days ago. Was told they had a good selection of male and female crabs and nice size. Picked up my order and instantly felt that I would be disappointed as the bag was too light. Got home and out of 12-13 crabs only 3-4 were decent. All were female and most had very little meat. A couple may have been dead when cooked. It was obvious when you picked up some of these crabs that they were not good. Sometimes you have to throw away the bad ones instead of selling them to your customers. I know times are crazy but stick with quality over quantity. I've been a customer for a long time and will probably return but now I'm going to try other crab places as well. read more

Just randomly searched for seafood markets and found Clifton's we were in need of crab legs and shrimp for my family and I. Totally didn't even know we had one close by to where we reside. Super pleased with the staff and the seafood! You order seafood by the pound or make your own seafood box they called it. You can pick and choose what you want inside for a certain price. They even season it and boil for you! They were super busy on Saturday around 2 Ish. I recommend ordering ahead and picking it up quick or go at a different time. It took about 28 minutes of waiting. Not really enough parking spaces either when they get busy you have to park anywhere in the lot lol so fighting over spots! The prices are reasonable for fresh seafood. Tried this place yesterday with my family. I called early in the morning to have our order ready for late afternoon and talked to Theresa. She was warm and funny & made the ordering process easy (although my fries were forgotten). The food wasn't ready when it was supposed to be picked up but it didn't take very long. I'm giving an extra star since we leave much further from the restaurant and it wasn't hot and crispy when it came. We ordered brim, catfish, shrimp, okra and fries. It was all fried well but, for me, was missing a little flavor. I'll try this place again and enjoy the food soon after retrieval to see if it's better. read more
