Very spacious and clean pools. About 50-100 tanning lounge chairs to choose from. Very attentive lifeguards. Snack bar is available as well. A diving pool, Olympic pool, swimming lanes, adult section, and various feet of water to swim in. This is all included when you pay the one time fee for the day. So sad I only learned about them towards the end of the summer! They close on Labor Day. Will definitely make it a staple to come back next summer.

I don't get the members throwing used paper towels on the counter or floor literally 12 feet away from 2 empty garbage cans( photo 1) . The fact that empty Gatorade and water bottles are also left on benches just a few feet again from the big garbage cans by the day care. ( photo 2). The selfish members who bring the dumbbells all the way from the free weight area to the racquetball courts 500 feet away and leave them there for us to trip over and hurt ourselves. The moron who does not wait to scan his gym card and sneaks in at 7:01 am on Saturday 5/30 ( Thinning hair, glasses, 5'11", 195 lbs, white sport shirt over his t shirt) - Yes idiot you are on camera. All these actions make things harder for all. Then these very same members get mad at LAF Mgmt and the maintenance staff for not doing their jobs and cleaning their mess. Go do this same crap at your home. Are you f'ing kidding me? This is a good gym that is open non stop from 4 am on Monday to 11 pm on Friday. This is a place where I leave feeling a million percent better with the endorphins going after the cardio and the workout. Love the Nergizer Juice bar where the awesome Arsenio and coworkers make the best PB smoothies. Members take some f ing pride and do your part. Please be respectful. Let us all enjoy this Signature Club.

Those damn seafood boil gets me every time. lol. Jared at the front desk is again AMAZING. A true professional, friendly, personable and so so nice. For the most part, everyone just kind of does their own thing which is good. Equipment looked a bit run down, rusty, kind of dirty, machine pads splitting and breaking apart. The gym itself is super messy, there are maybe 10 mismatched dumbbells on the rack at any given time because all of the equipment is just thrown all over the place - ex., one 30lb dumbbell here and the other is underneath a bench at the far end of the gym. The lighting gives you a Dollar Tree vibe - It's actually kind of sad and depressing. Locker rooms are a little crowded, maybe a bit less crowded during the day. Apparently this location will be going through a renovation period, so maybe it will be better when done. Overall experience? Wasn't terrible, I got my workout in, however, I think LA Fitness needs to hire better management and a better staff - a staff that will stay on top of certain issues and care about the overall gym goer experience. It seems like some of the complaints from years ago were never really addressed. A renovation would be nice but won't mean anything if you still have the same management and staff working there.

I called New York Pool Pro and immediately, Chris and Jason came, assessed the situation, advised that the current pump needed to be replaced. They ordered the pump, and came the next day to install it. They did such a wonderful job, I have hired them to do the maintenance of my pool and to close the pool when it is time to do so. I will hire them again for next year. I highly recommend them. They are extremely knowledgeable, honest, good people. They do excellent work. I am very happy with New York Pool Pro.

The gym is convenient for me and I hope that I will find enough alternative classes to make it worth renewing when my membership expires later this year. However, I feel the need to respond to Ken's response to Gina's post below. Ken states that the gym is in compliance with Nassau Co regulations regarding the need for life guards. That is true NOW that the pool was redone in December and the depth is less than five feet (and to save the gym money on hiring lifeguards). Prior to January the deep end was over my head and I'm about 5'5" so I really don't appreciate reading mistruths from management. Since I see that Ken is all of a sudden reading these posts I will share a few of my thoughts as to how the gym can be improved. 1. Why are there no cardio or weight classes after 6:30 pm? I have to rush out the door at 5 on the dot (risking the wrath of my boss) just to take a class that actually gives me a workout. Every single 7:30 class during the week is yoga (yoga/pilates). Shouldn't there be some variety? Do you not care about those that work late or commute? This gym is catering more and more to older customers. ***I should add that for at least 6 years I took a zumba class at 7:30 on Thursday that was always packed and for some reason was moved an hour earlier last fall. There are clearly people who are willing to take cardio classes later in the day.*** 2. Far too many of the tv's on the eliptical machines don't work. The channels come in fuzzy or the volume does not change. Time for some new machines. (While I'm at it why is Fox News always playing on the overheard tv's? Can't you stick to sports or something less polarizing) 3. I don't understand why there is so frequently a random woman selling pocket books, scarves and other nonsense right at the front of the gym. I'm at the gym to work out, not to feel pressure to buy stuff. This completely inappropriate for a gym. 4. The floor around the pool is very slippery. I know that at least one older woman had a very nasty fall there and an ambulance had to be called. I'm young and able bodied and even I get nervous walking there. Also lots of kids use the pool. In fixing up the pool, why didn't you do something about the crumbling concrete on the edges?

There are no people with clouds of marijuana smoke walking into this gym or people that throw wipes on the floor. Pools, hot tub, steam room, dry heat room, paper towels, wipes, no loud music. This is a real gym that won't be part of the statistics of a place that grows viruses, mold, and other problems. Nassau County doesn't have a health department that inspects gyms, but if they did, this gym would be the only one in the area to pass inspections with flying colors.

I'm a big Yelp Check-In guy. I mean I don't usually opt for checking into the smaller stores and…read moredaily monotonous spots (besides Dunkin'), but any interesting areas are worthy of the button click with possibility of Dukedom. Though for whatever reason, I spent all summer walking over to Ridder's Pond and never once left my Yelp mark. I don't know why. Maybe it was the quiet calmness of the area that left me wanting to check out from social media. Perhaps the picnic tables and benches were better used to gaze into the blue skies and (somewhat) murky water in front of me. Or possibly it was a childhood connection (or reconnection) to this tiny park as it was somewhere I used to spend a lot of time as a lad galavanting in the tiny playground area. Whatever it was, as I sat at Ridder's Pond yesterday at the end of the summer (a few more calendar weeks left technically), it just felt right to write a little ode (and take a few pics) to this calming spot. I don't expect you to know Ridder's Pond. It's honestly nothing special. Like I mentioned, the water isn't necessarily clean. The bathrooms are rather outdated. Oh and the geese reign strongly at certain points of the warmer months so be wary of them (and their droppings). But despite all of this, there are truly blissful moments that can be found sitting and peering out at the ripples of water. The path around the pond works well for exercising and you can even fish or catch a glimpse of some wildlife (turtles, bunnies, an occasional hawk feeding). No matter your reason for coming, it'll be a relaxing vibe that always wins out over anything else (even the geese). Overall, Ridder's Pond is a small local spot that helps in giving you a little nature in all the right ways. It's far from perfect, and you may end up with a little goose souvenir on your shoe if you're not careful, but the view makes it worth the negatives. These walks and hangouts are something I'll miss once the weather starts to take a turn towards cold, but I know when Spring finally rolls around again, I plan on continuing to disconnect and leave the Check-Ins to someone else. I'll enjoy the view instead.
