We visited this cute little family-owned restaurant called The Clock, and now we understand exactly why it has that name, there are so many unique and beautiful clocks all throughout the restaurant. As an art major, I absolutely appreciated all the little details and decor. The entire place had such a cozy, welcoming vibe. We went on Mother's Day for a late brunch, so naturally every restaurant in town was packed. We did wait a little while to be seated, but once we sat down, Judy, our waitress, was very upfront and let us know the food would likely take about 30 minutes. Honestly, we didn't mind at all because she immediately got us drinks and caffeine, which was much needed while battling a couple-day migraine. I ordered The Clock Two-Egg Breakfast, and wow, it was absolutely delicious. This was honestly some of the best breakfast food I've had since living in the state of Florida. The chunky hash browns were cooked perfectly. Bacon, perfectly cooked, a well balance of soft and crunchy. Judy was also one of the nicest waitresses we've met during all of our travels. She constantly checked on us and made sure we never went without anything during our visit. We were chatting with her about feeding pets, and she even drew a little dog on our doggy box, which was such a sweet personal touch. This place truly screams family atmosphere, and I love supporting places like this because the little family-owned spots deserve support too. We will absolutely be back, and I already know our teenager is going to love this place. Thank you again to Judy and the entire staff for giving us such a fantastic Mother's Day away from our family. I hadn't been to The Clock in almost twenty years, so I figured it was time to pop back in. The biggest surprise? It actually looks pretty good inside now. The grimy walls and windows are long gone, replaced with some decent updated decor, which was nice to see. The staff were friendly and clearly at home there. It was fun watching them trade banter with some of the regulars. That kind of easy, familiar energy is exactly what you want from a place like this, and The Clock has it in spades. The menu is basically unchanged, which is fine. I went for the fish and chips special, and honestly... it was just okay. Nothing wrong with it exactly, but for what they're charging, I didn't feel like I was getting good value. I can think of a few other places in town that'll do a better fish and chips for less money, and that's tough to ignore. Worth a visit for the atmosphere and the friendly faces, but don't go in expecting to be wowed by the food. read more

First time at this restaurant, on our way home to Jax from the Gator game. What a total delight. Plenty of servers who were very attentive. The restaurant was clean everywhere, including the bathrooms, in spite of the fact that they were shorthanded in the kitchen... and extremely busy.... Service was slow because of that shortage, but everything was cooked to perfection. We had steak and eggs, blueberry pancakes, sausage, bacon, hashbrowns, coffee. Another seeming throwback to an earlier time, this place features a four-seat counter area and a mixture of tables and booths stuck in the 90s. Aged, but clean for what we could see. Belgian waffle combo and a Paul Bunyan breakfast were what we decided on, eggs, waffles, pancakes, home fries, bacon and sausage. Bacon cooked to order, no complaints. we've eaten there over the years, but it had been a while. We were getting our car worked on and decided to have breakfast. While we waited, we were sat down immediately. Still, has that old school diner feel with a counter, or you can sit at at tables/booth. Our waitress was super friendly. We always had a full cup of coffee, and it was actually pretty clean from what we remember it being there. Food was above average for that type of restaurant. The omelet was fluffy. I can say. The sweet tea was good. The bacon was cooked to Perfection a little crispy and a little chewy and kind of thick. The home fries or tasty but soft not crispy at all. The biscuit though it looked at like it had been baked, it was soft and warm and moist like it had been through the microwave. I did not eat it. The waitress asked about it and when I told her and I thought it had been microwaved, she said I could have got it grilled but I did not see that option on the menu. read more

I think the restaurant is great. It had good vibes all around. It reminded me of this restaurant my mom would take me to when I was a kid back in Oklahoma. I believe they have good food. I won't be getting the French toast combo again. The fresh toast was very small and just was not enough food for the price. Next time I'll try a omelette but I do think this place has great food. The woman at the cash register was unfriendly and unprofessional in her interaction with me. While dining solo at the counter, with no one else seated there, she admonished me about watching tv on my phone. No "Good morning, how's your food, I'm sorry to tell you, ..." - just an abrupt command about the phone. While explaining that I felt unwelcome and the volume was no where near the conversations at nearby tables, she talked over me and doubled down. The restaurant itself is clean and cozy, a nice place to go for a chill, relaxing early morning or even early afternoon breakfast. A great place to grab a bite in Gainesville. I came for lunch, around 1230 on a Sunday and the place was packed, but I still got seated right away. The staff was friendly, and helpful in my decision making process. I ended up ordering the Paul Bunyan, which consists of 3 eggs, 3 sausage links, 3 slices of bacon, hash browns, and either biscuits and gravy, a biscuit, or pancakes. I went with eggs over easy, hash browns with onions and cheese, and biscuits and gravy. The eggs were prepared well, the bacon was crispy, and the hash browns indeed had cheese. I didn't taste or see onions, but that's alright. The biscuit for the biscuits and gravy was pretty large, and split in half. The biscuit itself was well prepared and cooked, and more fluffy than dense. The gravy was well seasoned, with some pretty good chunks of sausage. The coffee was good, the food was good, and I didn't hear any complaints from any of the other clientele about the restaurant. You have to check this place out. It's a whole vibe. When I walked in it was like stepping back into the 1980s, before chain restaurants outnumbered family owned diners. You know the type, drop ceiling, corian and fake wood paneling, wall to wall carpet and a vacuum in the corner, knickknacks and old art. But very bright and clean. Paper place mats with Florida map with illustrated local attractions. A wall of kids fan art. And this place has clocks everywhere. There was a couple meeting with an agent about getting a mortgage on a new house, I heard them mention they'd been there most of the afternoon. Seemed like a really laid back place. The staff was so friendly, they actually comped my meal because Vystar had been down for weeks and my card declined. The Veggie burger was great, I think it was a beyond burger or something like it. Hard to tell the difference from a beef burger and not what I would've expected from a diner! Other food on the menu looked like typical diner fare: club sandwiches, meatloaf and gravy and fries and greebeans type of thing. Breakfast served all day. I'll definitely be back! read more

I love, love, love good old diners. Hot coffee,nice people and laughter in the background. The spoon clinks as you stir the hot coffee, the sound of people working hard to bring the food out fast and hot. The only way to make money is turning tables, and man do they come in and out. I saw three couples come and go in the first 5 minutes. Some old gator fan wanted extra tomater!! . They already know what mr johnson wants as soon as they see his face coming in the door. When the original waitress brought our food, I politely thanked her and got nothing back. No response at all. I watched another waitress fix a tray and then lick her fingers... and the food was so so. My toast never made it out with my meal and we had to ask for it. Just ridiculous. A great little breakfast-all-day kind of restaurant. You can tell the locals frequent this place, the friendly wait staff seemed to know a lot of arriving customers. We went with a group of eight and we were seated and waited on quickly. We all had different menu choices and all were happy with their food. I went for breakfast. It's very standard diner food. I would compare it to IHOP. The prices were all right, and our server was very attentive and nice. The issues were with the food. There were 5 people in our party and we all got food at different times. It took almost 15 minutes for everyone to get their food. Two dishes were missing items and that took even longer to get. Husband had the western omelette with pancakes. He said the omelette was "not Colorado good, but solid." His pancakes were delicious. I don't usually like buttermilk pancakes, but I enjoyed these very immensely, which annoyed Husband, as they were not my pancakes to enjoy. Kid was not as happy with the waffle. She said it was a little to soft and under-cooked. And the strawberry stuff didn't taste quite right; it was really tart, in an unpleasant way. I had the french toast and sausage. If you are wondering if they have turkey sausage, they do. My food was all perfectly average. So, one 5 star review, one 1 star review, and one 3 star review. Went to Clock not long ago with my husband for lunch. Although the decor is older diner, we had the best service and the food was excellent. I got chicken tenders, salad, mashed potatoes and gravy, and a carrots and peas mix (veg of the day). Only two things I wasn't thrilled with: the mashed potatoes were bland and not hot and I didn't like the fact that I couldn't choose my own side veg, but since I got a good salad that didn't bother me as much. The chicken tenders were the best I've had in a restaurant. No lie. I've eaten them many times in different places. These had just the right amount of crunch and the meat was delicious. My husband had a huge breakfast platter with country fried steak. So much food! He said it was very tasty. Our server was very friendly and took great care of us. The restaurant was very clean.
