It wasn't the greatest since it's near the main road but they do have a lot of greenery up so you can't see it but you do hear it. We had a decent experience at Metro Diner! We were told there would be a 10-15 minute wait, but it was actually closer to two minutes, which was a pleasant surprise. We sat outside under the overhang, which was comfortable and enjoyable. One person ordered the huevos rancheros, while the other two had the avocado toast with feta cheese. Everything was delicious, and the portions were HUGE--so much food that I actually had to take someone home with me! One note for management: please don't wash the tables while guests are eating. I completely understand the importance of cleaning the tables, especially between customers, but the smell from the sponges and cleaning products was really unpleasant while we were trying to enjoy our meal. Maybe cleaning the tables before or after the dining period would help. Overall, a good meal, quick seating, friendly service, and very generous portions. We'll definitely be back! Last minute breakfast decision and wow I am so pleased that we decided on the Metro Diner! As soon as we pulled up I had a good feeling about this place and I'll be honest coming from New York I miss my diners! Needless to say this the Metro diner truly surpassed my expectations. We walked in and were greeted immediately and asked if we would like to sit outside which is a covered area or indoors. We chose inside given it being a hot humid day and wanting that extra comfort. The vibe felt amazing with all the smiles and yes even though busy all the wait staff was hopping doing their business! We were seated and told about the specials and given the menu. I was unsure what I wanted because I think I could have eaten a little bit of everything! I did ask the waitress a couple of suggestions and one of them was the pancakes I had chosen. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner all day! How cool is that and rare. They had a chicken and waffle special that was actually half a chicken ( pieces ) fried with Belgium waffles, powdered sugar and sweet strawberry butter served with their signature sweet and spicy sauce. I'll be honest when I had seen someone else get their plate I was surprised. It looked absolutely incredible and well tremendous. On their specials they had banana pudding pancakes or waffles, this also sounded amazing. It had walnuts, butter and powdered sugar and definitely banana. I am most certainly glad that I chose this as it was incredibly. Super fluffy, flavorful and the banana was not overwhelming there was a perfect balance of flavors. There was a sauce on them that I assume was the banana pudding. It was light and just enough to not overpower the pancake itself. We had also ordered croissant French toast and my son absolutely loved them. They were crispy on the outside yet fluffy and flavorful with a fantastic texture topped with some powdered sugar. Some ordered hash browns, these were also delicious and homemade with a great texture and the portion like all the other dishes pretty large. We had all tried the biscuits and gravy. These too were delicious with such a nice balance of flavors. The biscuits indeed homemade. We were all very pleased with everything. Some eggs over easy and bacon cooked perfectly. The coffee honestly the best I've had in years. I'm a coffee drinker and I cannot figure this coffee was outstanding! I had four cups and wish for more ha ha. Best of all I must compliment the service. I have not been to a restaurant of any sort with such attentive service, quality service as we received here in years. Got seated quickly outside for brunch. It was a little warm and muggy even with the fan/mist on but it's Florida so not unexpected. Our server was quick and friendly. After a visit to the VA for some routine medical work, my wife and I were looking forward to sampling the food at Metro Diner after reading glowing Yelp reviews and a recommendation, albeit a tepid one, from a fellow Yelp Elite we spoke to at a YES event. Upon entering, we were led to a booth. The place looked smaller than what I expected. It was a late lunch so my wife and I were ready to order when our server finally showed up after a few minutes wait. My wife ordered the Chicken Pot Pie and I had the Beef Tips. My wife liked the flavor of her dish but it was not as creamy as she was expecting...runnier than preferred. My dish was fine, not a standout. The cut of meat had some gristly pieces that were tough to cut with a butter knife...I should've asked for and it should've been served with a steak knife. The green beans were good though. On a side note, Texas Roadhouse offers a similar dish that has a more robust flavor with better cuts of tender sirloin meat. All in all, not too bad. My wife and I both like comfort food and will probably dine here again...but perhaps order something else. Lunch for 2 with tip came out to just under $38. read more

Well when we pulled in and saw the large number ofbfolks out in front of the restaurant, we were like maybe not. But we found a parking spot and walked in and got sat down right away!! See if everyone in your party isnt there they will make you wait till everyone is there before the seat you. Ordered an amazing western omelette, and the wiffe orsered somw pancakes and sausage and gravy. There was so much food she actually had to take some home. And my omelet had so much meat and veggies in it probably one of the best omelets i have had in Gainesville. And our server was very busy but made sure to check in on us regularly . I usually like this restuarant but I ordered some pancakes for pick up and was really disappointed with how it was set up. They use Styrofoam packaging for everything, which is an issue but I would normally not deduct stars for this. However, they placed my very hot pancakes into the Styrofoam container and the bottom pancakes melted the Styrofoam badly. You are not supposed to put hot foods in Styrofoam because it melts the plastic and then you end up eating it.... and this plastic can cause serious health issues over time like cancers and thyroid issues, not to mention who wants to eat pancakes with an extra helping of plastic? I understand being busy, but please do not do this. If anything, put heat safe wax paper/parchment paper between the hot food and the Styrofoam so you arent accidentally poisoning your customers :( read more

It's the perfect mix of a classic greasy spoon with plenty of hearty, indulgent options and healthier choices if you want them. The portions are generous, the food always comes out hot and fast, and the staff is friendly and efficient. It's clearly a local favorite--students, families, and Gainesville regulars all pack the place--so be prepared to wait a bit, especially on weekends. Totally worth it though. Our son introduced us to Metro Diner several years ago during one of our visits, he attended the University of Florida. We visited Metro for breakfast every time we visited and it was always super packed. We usually had a wait time of approximately 20-30 minutes. Never once did we receive anything less than phenomenal food and service. I can't say I have a favorite dish because everything I tried was just delicious. Serving sizes are quite big as I never once finished a meal but having a young adult male in the family remedies that problem because I always ordered something we would both like because my son always finished my meal. He graduated some years ago, so unfortunately we have not had the opportunity to return to this location. They have another location in Pembroke Pines but the menu is not the same and the quality of the food is not as good. So I guess we'll have to stop by this location during our next road trip! read more

The French toast was unexpectedly the highlight of the meal. It came out thick with a nice crisp edge, and the portion was generous enough that I had leftovers despite trying my best. It has been quite a while since I last visited the Metro Diner, and my mother and I were looking for a place that would serve us some nice home cooking. The decor hasn't changed much since the last time I was there, which has been more than five years. We were greeted and told to sit wherever we wanted, and of course since I prefer tables with actual chairs we had no problem finding a spot. Drinks were brought out, and looking through the menu the Shepherd's Pie stuck out to me as being the choice to go for. Then I saw that they have corned beef hash as a side dish, so I had to go for that as well. All of it was excellent, and I was a happy person when we left. The light above our table was going out so it kept flashing which was very distracting. We were going to ask to move but there were no other open tables at the time. The breakfast sandwich was only ok, the bread was over toasted on half and the toppings were all on one side. I just deconstructed and ate it that way. The BLT didn't have much bacon. This seems to be a fav spot for locals. Totally packed early on a weekend and the people just kept coming. Located in a strip mall with easy parking. Both inside and patio seating offered. Staff here is amazing, capable and efficient. One particularly effervescent guy was literally cleaning up a spill on the floor, taking orders, and delivering food with panache and a contagious energy. Ordered the bacon avocado scramble and meat lovers scramble. Portions were adequate and food tasty. Nothing was fancy, but it was good and pricing was reasonable. Several of their dishes come with hollandaise sauce on it (which was a good tasting hollandaise), but it's a lot of it so if you're unsure how you feel about it, request on the side. If you're gluten-free they seem to be really good about knowing the options and ensuring safety. GF toast and buns are available. They even offered to cook my hash browns in a separate skillet. An impromptu, spur of the moment motorcycle ride to Gainesville brought us to the Metro Diner. It's located at the end of a small strip mall on SW 34th St. This was our first visit, and to avoid a wait we opted to sit outside. We started with a cheese curd (fried) appetizer, and they were promptly delivered and cooked nicely. I ordered the grilled chicken Cesar salad and Dawn got avocado toast with one egg. The outside area was nice, with a lite breeze and fans circulating the air. It's pet friendly and the dogs were well behaved and fun to watch. It's close to the road but traffic noise was a minimum. Sam our waitress was good, and cordial, she also made several trips to our table to check on us. Everything was well cooked, well prepared and quite palatable. We will keep the Metro Diner in mind for future dinner dates. The ONLY downside was being on the bike, with no room for leftovers :-) The prices were decent and Comparable to the area. read more

This is one of my favorite spots in Gainesville for a cozy meal that feels like home. Whether it's a post game day brunch or fuel for a long study session, I know I can always count on Metro to set me up for a great day. Working in the service industry, I have to applaud the team work, attentiveness, and enthusiasm that comes from this whole team. I've had excellent service every time I've visited - even at peak times when there's a line out the door. Just a note: if you come on a Sunday (after a game day or after Church), it WILL be busy, but they will still have great service and food comes out quick. I ordered the Country Fried Steak with scrambled eggs and home fries (with peppers and onions), but unfortunately, the steak was a miss for me. The breading was extremely salty--so much so that I couldn't enjoy the rest of it. That's the only item I wouldn't order again. On the bright side, everything else was delicious! The Fried Chicken & Waffles were a standout--crispy, flavorful, and cooked just right. Just a heads-up: the sweet and spicy sauce doesn't come automatically--you have to ask for it, which I wish I had known beforehand. Once I got the sauce, it really pulled the dish together. I also tried the Banana Pudding Waffles (yum!) with turkey sausage, eggs, and home fries--super tasty and fun twist on a classic. The Steak and Egg White Bowl was a solid, lighter option and still packed with flavor. Service was great, but if you go, try to sit in Nikki's section.
