If I could give Clos Pegase more than five stars, I would. This has been my all-time favorite winery since my very first visit in 2017, and we've proudly been wine club members ever since. One of the things I love most about Clos Pegase is that it's so much more than a winery--it's where wine, art, and architecture come together. The estate was originally designed by renowned postmodern architect Michael Graves, who envisioned it as both a winery and an art museum. After the recent restoration, they beautifully brought back his original vision, restoring the warm Mediterranean-inspired colors and architectural details that make this place unlike anywhere else in Napa. If you appreciate interior design, you'll be in heaven. Every room is thoughtfully curated, from the beautiful furnishings and artwork to the intricate bathroom tile. The winery feels like you're walking through a contemporary art gallery, with incredible pieces displayed throughout the property--many of which are available for purchase. Don't miss the HOMMAGE Artist Series gallery while you're there. One of my favorite spaces is the members-only dining room. The dramatic chandelier hanging above the communal table reminds me of the iconic wrecking ball from Game of Thrones (in the best way possible!). They even partnered with Game of Thrones for a special wine release years ago, which made the experience even more memorable. Of course, the wine is why we continue coming back. My absolute favorite is the Blanc de Noir Sparkling Wine from Mitsuko's Vineyard in Carneros. It's crisp, refreshing, and perfect on a warm Napa afternoon. Their Sauvignon Blanc is another favorite that I never leave without, and they also make wonderful dessert wines. I tend to gravitate toward whites, rosés, and sparkling wines, but if you're a red wine lover, you absolutely won't be disappointed either. One of the biggest reasons we've remained members for so many years is how well they treat their wine club members. We've attended their annual crab feed along with several other exclusive member events, and every experience has been exceptional. It truly feels like being part of a community rather than just another wine club. Clos Pegase is one of those rare places that continues to impress me every single visit. Whether you're passionate about wine, architecture, art, or simply looking for one of the most beautiful wineries in Napa Valley, this is an absolute must-visit. I would give a 10/5 rating if I could for just how fantastic this winery is. Not only did we get delicious wines but we also were able to learn about the history of the winery. Our wonderful server, historian, and guide, Shelly, really made our experience delightful. She gave us knowledge of the wine we were tasting during each pour, provided history of the family and winery, and gave us an EXCELLENT cave tour experience, simply because she cares! This tasting and tour experience made our day completely. All of their wine is honestly fantastic but I do have to say that their Chardonnay (Carneros) from Mitsuko's Vineyard was astounding. Our first wine tasting to start our trip off and ended up to be one of favorites. I made reservations far in advance on the website for the Connoisseur Cave Tour and Tasting. Clos Pegase located in Calistoga was a perfect stop on our way to Yountville where we were staying. Upon arrival, our tasting room hostess, Susan introduced herself and gave us a pour while waiting for another couple to join our tour. Our group was only 4 people which was very nice. Susan was great, very informative during the time we had, talking about the history, architecture, grapes and production. The cave tour was wonderful all the while Susan was pouring tasting of their latest and greatest. We ended the tour in the cave room where we had a pairings of wine and food which we so good. We came on a Sunday afternoon using our "Wine Passports". You can buy them online for $75, go to 16 different wineries and enjoy complimentary tastings. It's a steal! Most wineries cost between $40-60 per tasting. All you have to do is call ahead and make an appointment. Clos Pegas was beautiful! They have a huge, open entry way with statues that lead to a large green lawn and the estate. You can pay for a tour of the estate, if you'd like. Clos Pegase is a smaller winery that makes only 20-25k cases of wine a year (compared to 30k+ at other wineries) which is why their wines are only sold at their tasting rooms. We made reservations online ahead of time and prepaid beforehand. Surrounding the parking lot is a large heritage garden in the front that serves as a commitment to water conservation. In the middle of the building is the Friendship Bench with the characters Rabbitwoman and Dogman facing each other symbolizing opposites coming together. That's definitely something I haven't seen before. Each tasting was $40 and we sampled four of their wines. Out of all the wines my favorite was the 2018 Napa Valley Red Blend that was aged for 38 months and was very smooth. It had more body and was not as tannic. It was no surprise it was one of their most expensive wines. Some other ones I liked were the 2021 rose and the 2021 chardonnay. They have indoor and outdoor seating but if the weather is nice I recommend sitting outside with nice views of the vineyards. Sitting on their chairs just made me want to take a nap in the sun. I also liked that our server poured the wine, gave us some history and notes, then left us to try it ourselves in peace. Afterwards we walked around the grounds and the courtyard soaking in the sun. We visited on a hot day (temperature in the high 80s). There's air conditioning inside but we chose to sit in the shade on the patio. The breeze helped a lot with the heat. I sat back in my chair with my wine, amazing views and could not have been more relaxed. Heather guided us through our tasting experience and let us try a few things that weren't on the tasting menu. The sauvignon blanc and rosé were both refreshing and delicious, pairing perfectly with the weather. Knowing that we're visiting from Santa Barbara, she also let us try a Pinot that was wonderful. We left with a half a case of wine because it was all so great! Highly recommended coming here and taking time to enjoy both the wine, scenery and art throughout the property. We had a wonderful tour experience led by Wes. We are cabernet fans and were amazed by their pinot noir ... left the winery with some of that and some of the cab. Wes is a great tour guide. He's been in the business for a few decades and has great stories and video depicting the history of Clos Pegase. Of course, we tasted wines other than the pinot and cab and though all weren't to our taste, we did drink rather than spit. Can't say the same for all the wineries we've visited this trip. (4-5 other groups the whole time) I don't claim to be someone with a refined wine palette (an amateur, if you will), but it was a fun & relaxing experience. I liked their wines. My sister and brother-in-law took me wine tasting here a couple of weekends ago. They're members at this winery so they had been here prior. The place looks really nice and it's not as crowded as other wineries in the Napa Valley. The wine was delicious, in all honesty I don't know too much about wine but I do love drinking it! It was a super rainy Saturday when we went and my sister and I were not dressed for the weather, their team member was nice enough to let us pass through the building instead of outside, we even got a mini tour of the place. This review is specifically for the exceptional service that Shelly provided our group. We came in without any reservations for wine tasting and Shelly quickly accommodated us. Timing on each pour was great. She was very sincere and caught on that we were celebrating my wife's birthday. To make my wife's day special, She provided each of us a glass of champagne and also included great details and history of the winery. Since I am not a wine drinker I cannot say how good the wine was but my party said it was well worth it. Had a fantastic experience at Clos Pegase. If anyone's wondering, it's supposedly pronounced "clo pegah" (no "s"). Their estate is gorgeous, and they have very relaxed seating outside. There are a variety of tables and booths (which seem to be saved for larger parties). The only downside is their outdoor seating is pretty exposed to tons of sunlight, and you only have an umbrella to give you some shade. We did a standard tasting, and Heather was great. Super friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. You can walk the estate, the grass area, and the vineyards as you're tasting. They are pet friendly, and multiple parties brought their dogs. Not particularly busy when we went, so Clos Pegase had much more of a low-key, relaxed, and casual vibe. read more

Day trip to the winery with my sisters. We had an appointment so there was no wait. Our appointment was much later in the day so unsurprisingly there wasn't a lot of people. There wasn't a host when we got there. So we had to walk further in to the winery to look for someone to get seated. I figured it was because our appointment was about an hour before closing. Nevertheless the staff were nice and courteous and happily seated us to our table. We were offered complimentary bottle waters which I thought was really nice. We did the standard wine tasting. I'm not sure if it was because we went much later in the day or it wasn't part of their service, but the wines weren't necessarily explain to us like how a lot of wineries do. Our server wasn't around a lot, so we sometimes had to ask another server to serve us our next wine. We ordered a charcuterie plate which we devoured because we didn't had a lot to eat prior to coming. The charcuterie was good. No complaints there. The plate consists of your typical bite-size snacks like cheese, sliced meat, some fruit. The winery itself was really beautiful. It's a great place to walk around and take Instagram worthy photos. My favorite wines were the Merlot, Cab Franc, Red blend, and dessert wine (pairs excellent with their chocolate). This winery is one of the two in Calistoga that allows guests under 21 on premises, family friendly. Staff wear masks and gloves. Flight tasting is self pour. Generally their wine are ok, grapes are all from their estate. Their Sauvignon Blanc is quite sweet, the Chardonnay holds a good balance between too oaky and too steely. We added a $8 port tasting. It came with a piece of chocolate. The port is good, not overly sweet or fortified. Backyard is open for tasting but not a lot of areas to walk around. read more

Some special wines are served up at Clos Pegase Winery, which is only appropriate as it truly is an experience just to visit their unique tasting room. Located along the St. Helena Highway in the southern area of Calistoga, Clos Pegase Winery opened in 1987, which makes it one of Napa Valley's newer wineries on the block so speak as it is known for its huge monolithic tasting room that has a postmodern look that was designed by famed architect Michael Graves, who was looking to evoke memories of a European ancestry by merging modern architecture with ancient cultures of the Mediterranean. A friend and I were looking for an late morning wine tasting in the area, and their Mixed Estate Flight for 40 dollars a person was in our price range, plus the chance to check out their property had us both intrigued as their winery sits in the valley as its nestled in by the nearby Napa River but easily viewable from the highway above. Upon entry underneath their massive archway you pass by a noted piece of artwork called The Friendship Bench and we were immediately greeted by a tasting room host with a splash of their 2019 Estate Rosé, which aged in their steel barrel and is considered their poolside wine. This had an aroma of cherry blossom and apricot and bright acidity lingered on the palate. From there we sat out on their outdoor patio with fifty acres of grapes that served as our backdrop for the day. Our tasting room associate Nick told us about the history of the founders Jan and Mitsuko Shrem, who met and married in Japan and moved to the valley and bought this property for a cool million dollars after hearing about the big boom going on here in the early 1980s. Although Jan, who is thriving in his nineties no longer own the winery anymore, his influence in the wines they produce here is still felt as Clos Pegase Winery focuses on smaller lots, as if they were a smaller winery in the valley, which is remarkable considering their well-known presence thanks to their iconic winery and tasting room. For our second pour, we enjoyed their 2019 Mitsuko's Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, which is named after the winery founder's wife, and was sourced in the Carneros region of Southern Napa, aged in their steel barrel and had an aroma of guava and kiwi and flavors of peaches and pears that gave this wine a nice crisp finish. Our third pour was their 2018 Hommage Chardonnay, which like their Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from Carneros. Aged in their oak barrels for twenty-two months, with aroma of brioche and hay, if that can be considered a combination, with a smooth coat on the palate you can taste the notes of butterscotch and melon and unlike many Chardonnay wines was not too buttery. For our fourth and fifth pours, we finally got to enjoy their red wines as their 2018 Mitsuko's Vineyard Pinot Noir whose grapes are sourced from both the Carneros region and from eighty acres in nearby St. Helena. Aged in French barrel oak, this Pinot Noir had a deep red color when poured in our wine glasses and had an aroma of cherry and spices and had a peppery yet smooth finish balanced by subtle crisp tannins. Nick said this wine would pair perfectly with a light salad topped with steak. Their 2017 Hommage Cabernet Sauvignon is grown all on property, which is known as the Tenma Vineyard. This wine had a dark purple color to it, had both oak and vanilla on the nose, and black cherries, blackberries and cocoa on the palate. At $125 a bottle this was definitely their most prized wine and we were so impressed that they include this wine on their Estate Tasting, but when purchased it will only age for the better with time. We had a wonderful time at Clos Pegase Winery, as you can't get more emblematic of the wine tasting experience in Napa Valley thanks to the lush wine that you would find here. And they are hard to find in many stores, so buy when you can, as we appreciated that there was no hard sell to join their wine club or purchase a bottle this afternoon from their very gracious staff. Sometimes one comes to the valley for the experience and you need to take it all in, and at Clos Pegase Winery they appreciate that fact. read more

Our tour guide took our group on a guided tour through the beautiful estate, facility, wine cave, all of which designed by the award winning , world renowned architect, Michael Graves. While our guided tour consisted more of our guide's personal anecdotes than wine making, he covered a lot of the winery's history, which was cool. Down in the cave, we enjoyed a lovely wine tasting and food pairing. The snacks were delicious and paired very well with the wines. Everyone chatted amongst themselves, and enjoyed Clos Pegase's wines, which are delicious and highly rated. The pours were generous too. Our guide even came around a few times to pour us more if we wanted. After the tasting, the tour continued. The bestie and her hubby took my husband and I to this place for a wine tour for my early Birthday celebration. They have been here before and loved the service so they wanted us to enjoy the experience as well. We got there about 15 mins early so we were able to enjoy exploring the grounds a bit. Then our guide Steve showed up and was very easy going which we appreciate. The tour was for 18 people, however only 8 of us were there on time. Steve went over the history of the land and the vineyard. It's quite interesting. The architecture there was very Roman/Greek. Clean lines. I appreciated the entire look. As Steve went over the history, we got to enjoy about 5 or 6 different types of wines. My favorite being the Cab. Such a smooth finish with a good amount of alcohol content. Our guide Steve was amazing. He took us down a dark tunnel in the cave and showed us the bunghole! He was very amusing. We always appreciate good wine and good entertainment. I have nothing but good things to say about Clos Pegase! The scenery is beautiful and the staff are extremely kind. When we arrived we were told they were understaffed due to an emergency, so service would be a bit slow. The host provided us with a complementary full glass of rose for the wait which was delicious! We didn't mind the slow service as it gave us time to soak in the scenery and chat. All the wines we tried during our mixed tasting were very smooth. Our waiter even let us taste a few extras. My favorite was the rose, Chardonnay, and the portico. In the end I purchased a couple of bottles and was happily on my way. Probably my favorite winery on our visit to Napa this year! I appreciated the unpretentious yet beautiful grounds, including a well manicured collection of water-saving succulents. The staff was similarly friendly and attentive while allowing us plenty of time to converse amongst ourselves. Wines of course are top notch!
