We have to thank Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, for rescuing us from a scorching 106°F afternoon and guiding us straight to the beautiful Maria Concetto tasting room. Maria and Gregory greeted us like wine angels, saving not only our overheated bodies but our souls as well! From the very first pour, we fell in love with every single wine we tasted. What impressed us even more was their philosophy of crafting clean wines with no added sulfites. That truly resonated with us because my wife is sensitive to many wines and often has allergic reactions. For the first time in a long time, she was able to fully enjoy the tasting experience. Thank you, Maria and Gregory, for making our Monday afternoon so unforgettable. Between the incredible wines, the fun robot sommelier, the warm hospitality, the laughter, and the wonderful atmosphere, it felt less like a tasting and more like spending time with old friends. If you're looking for an eclectic and memorable experience, Maria Concetto Winery is worth a visit. Our visit started off a bit chaotic--but in a fun, lively way. A couple had just gotten engaged about an hour before we arrived, and videographers and photographers were still gathered around the RoboVino (which, BTW, is incredibly cool to watch in action). We were greeted and seated right away despite being an hour early. A woman began explaining the tasting options and wines, then another group arrived and she shifted her attention to them. This left us unsure of what to do next and were a bit confused. Nigel soon stepped in and walked us through the options again, and we opted for the four-wine tasting. He is clearly passionate and extremely knowledgeable about wine. His explanations were thorough--perhaps a bit long for my personal preference--but my partner really enjoyed the depth of detail. I would have loved a little more time to relax, sip, and take in the wonderfully quirky atmosphere that makes Maria Concetto unique (and I mean that in the best way)! We ended up taking home a bottle of our favorite: the Calistoga Cab. I'm deducting one star only because I felt a bit pressured to leave a review on the spot. I was happy to reassure them that I genuinely enjoy writing reviews and pretty much guaranteed I'd write one before the day was over. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. We felt welcomed, and both the woman (I have a feeling that was Maria) and Nigel were friendly and hospitable. Come for the RoboVino ... stay for a glass (or bottle) of the Calistoga Cab. read more

A nice little place to have a glass of a good wine, listen to life music, have a conversation. This is not as official as a tasting in any of the "big boys" of Napa Valley wineries, more of a personalised experience. I had Pinot from Mendocino Bay area, this is a good wine. I actually put this wine on the same level as Etude or, with a very little stretch, as a Kosta browne pinot. Place is open till later in the evening, what makes it a nice spot to have a glass of a good quality wine after a dinner in one of many Calistoga restaurants. read more

Of course we had to find out what that was about, there is indeed a robot pouring wine at Maria Concetto. The owner Maria greeted us and invited us to stay for some wine, so we did. BUT the website advertises for $35 you have a 90 min experience with a glass of wine or tasting and light bites while you shop/customize a hat. We did not get a glass of wine, a tasting or any food. We got a splash of wine to start then that was it. After that we were to pay for more glasses. There are also a range of hat prices on the website. The lower price hats were not available at all. Only the higher priced hats. There was a birthday being celebrated so no one made a stink, but some of us left feeling a bit swindled. It's a really great idea and honestly I wouldn't be writing this review if we got what is advertised. So maybe the website needs to be updated? Just too bad to have a damper on what was a really enjoyable afternoon.

Head Over Heels, a unique Gamay-Pinot blend, was perfect for the hot weather yesterday, and Peep Show was another great choice for poolside sipping. Dirty Looks was a smooth and unexpectedly delicious find as well. We loved them all and purchased 7 bottles they were all so great! Will was such a great host--he really knows how to explain the wines while adding color and personality to the stories behind them. He made the tasting even more enjoyable! We've now been to both their Paso Robles and Calistoga locations, and both are super cool, with incredibly fun decor and settings. Tank Garage is definitely worth a visit if you're looking for something a little different, playful, and delicious!

The tasting cost $40 for 6 pours, starting with a rose and ending with a Cabernet Sauvignon. I am not very fond of reds but all the ones that were on the tasting menu that day were very good. The rose was my favorite. I was talking to the owner and he mentioned that he prefers to be out making wine instead of pouring and I can see that. Also, the pours were very tiny. There was not much information shared about the wine etc, he left the bottle with the information side turned towards you to read up on your own. The place itself is beautiful and it used to be a hardware store. It's right next to the city hall and across the street from the police station. There is street parking as well as a public parking lot next to the police station. The place is dog friendly and the owner bought out a bowl of water for my baby. I didn't buy anything but I would visit again.

It's got a very homey and intimate vibe, which I have to say I sometimes prefer to the large mansion/castle wineries. Even my boyfriend, who is not a wine drinker and was dreading the tasting, said he enjoyed 5/6 of the wines we tried (big win!) We spent a couple hours here and we were sad when it was over, it was the perfect start to our day in Calistoga!

We didn't have a reservation for the wine tasting, but we walked in and got a few seats. Lawer Estates is a relatively small winery, but they had the best red wines I've ever had. Most of the seating was around the bar, with one section in the back with a large table and a couple of chairs. My only recommendation would be to add a few more cozy chairs as options for those that don't want to sit at a bar. The prices were in line with where they should be, and the service was top-notch. If you are in the area and looking for a romantic winery in Calistoga, I recommend stopping in. Overall, I would come back. Thank you for the fantastic experience!

It's not uncommon the wines are consistently sold out on the release day, and go thru legit site auction on K&L Wines if we want to get library vintages. I hope it's enough to convince how hard you should try to try a bottle of Rivers Marie if you haven't done so, and perhaps get onto the mailing list. Following other footsteps of cult wines that Mr. Brown oversee as winemaker (Schrader, Outpost, just name a few), Rivers Marie and Aston Estate are going to best represent his vision and legacy (in my humble opinion), also perhaps with more emphasis on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varietals (although not necessarily true as we were able to barrel taste the new Cab and loved it). Having said that, it was quite an experience that the tasting room was generously made available to my visit. Frank, after we finally met in person, we found that we were from the same school! Well, just a decade apart (lol). My friends and I are all very grateful of Frank's hospitality and share his wealth of knowledge. The tasting room really show me about how much the brand cares about blend in into nature, community involvement, and finally, the wines, each one are so expressive to its terroir in which is why the wines are so difficult to get in the market. With excitement in her eyes, she described the delicious tropical-inspired cocktails with good vibes to match. Since I had an upcoming birthday, I bookmarked the restaurant so that we would remember to visit it during our stay in Calistoga. After arriving in Calistoga on a Friday evening, my wife and I thought that it would be appropriate to have dinner and drinks at Robert's. Upon walking through the entrance of the restaurant, we observed a nice backyard-style layout with televisions tuned to the NBA playoffs, patrons enjoying glasses of wine, and a DJ playing smooth yacht rock tunes. A friendly employee informed us that it was open seating, so we sat ourselves along the padded seating in close proximity to the DJ. Shortly afterwards, a server came by to take our orders. My wife ordered the short rib, garlic fries, and the Sip It Slowly cocktail; I ordered the Jamaican Jerk Chicken, Dumplings (suggested by the server), and the Jerk Old Fashioned. While we awaited our orders, the server brought us a delicious miniature size soup - which was absolutely delicious and definitely a tease! Shortly after, our drinks arrived. I found my drink to be delicious, strong, and was intrigued by the flavor that the little piece of submerged jerky provided. However, I will admit that I was a bit jealous when I snuck a couple sips of my wife's delicious cocktail. Up until the arrival of our meals, I was impressed. My wife found the short ribs to be just ok; additionally, her fries were lukewarm upon arrival and dry (as if they were overcooked). I have had Jamaican jerk chicken in Jamaica, so my expectations were very high. Unfortunately, the chicken was not flavorful and did not have the "kick (spice)" that I anticipated. Surprisingly, the highlight here was the dumplings (delicious!) and the Hint of Passion cocktail that I ordered (if I had a signature drink- this would be it!). I really should have listened to my intuition when we initially observed that a majority of the other patrons were just indulging in drinks, no food. When our server brought us the bill totaling roughly $160, I couldn't help but feel like the food was not in alignment with the price point. I wanted so badly to like this establishment, but honestly could not see myself returning for anything other than one of their cocktails.
