To kick off day two of my birthday weekend in Calistoga, my wife and I decided to visit Romeo Vineyards and Cellars. Romeo holds a special place in our hearts because we visited them a little over seven years ago. During that experience (which you can read about in my previous review - if interested), my wife and I had a grand experience with former Business Manager Emma, who administered the delicious tastings. Fast forward to the present, we looked forward to enjoying a glass of their finest red before finding lunch. Upon entering the walkway, we were enthusiastically greeted by an employee named John who quickly ushered us to a vacant table for two. My wife had a slight reaction to the beautiful flowers that were in full bloom. Out of the kindness of his heart, John provided my wife with a bottle of Pure Leaf tea that calmed her allergies. We told John that we were interested in enjoying a glass of red, in which he quickly ran off and returned with a bottle of 2009 Eugenia Cabernet Sauvignon. Upon doing the swirl and sniff test (sounds dirty doesn't it?), I knew that we were in for a treat. Since we were both in dire need of a meal, we sadly could not continue the party. However, we will make a return visit in the near future to enjoy a full tasting experience! read more

Unique, intimate and one of the best wine tasting experience I have ever had. This a small winery tasting room with high quality vintage wines. We first tried the wine at a restaurant in San Diego and we absolutely loved it, we drank all their available bottles throughout the year and we had to come visit the winery in Napa! We always love Romeo! The gardens are stunning - their selection of wines is delicious (they even have a rose of Petit Verdot that I love, and I have only ever seen there). We love to enjoy the wines and the company and see live music on the patio, but also like when it's cold and rainy and we get to enjoy the beautiful cozy room in the back. Christine, John, Peter and Mary are always amazing. Still one of our favorite places to go in town, and take friends and family to when they come to visit. We had the most amazing time at Romeo Vineyards' tasting room! The atmosphere was beautiful and relaxed -- live music set the perfect tone, and the staff was so friendly and knowledgeable. Each wine we tried was exceptional, especially the reds -- rich, smooth, and full of character. The outdoor seating under the trees made it feel like a little hidden gem in the heart of wine country. Absolutely beautiful seating and tables in their garden. While this is located off a Main Street, while you are there it feels like you are tucked into a serene little garden. We ended up opting out of our tasting and bought a few bottles to try instead! Whatever we didn't finished was recorked and we could bring it home to finish. I throughly enjoyed every bottle we tried. The rose was crisp with just a hint of sweetness. My personal favorite was the Muscat Canelli as I love crisp and refreshing whites! The lychee and pear pairing was delicious in this wine. We ended our patio session with some old vine cab sav and it was another home run. We absolutely enjoyed every wine we tasted and it was great to take a little extra home (even if there wasn't much left). read more

These wines were incredible! My family and I were completely impressed by the quality of the wine we tried at Romeo. Unfortunately I have to give 2 stars because of the service. The woman at the counter (Jolie?) did not seem interested in being there, did not speak about the wines, instead giving us the bottles to read the back labels for ourselves. She couldn't even tell us what the rosé was made from, acting confused and annoyed by the inquiry, saying, "it's just rosé, 100% rosé". We had to read the label to know we were purchasing rosé of Petit Verdot, which we thought was totally interesting and exciting to try. She did not share any other information about the wines or the winery, instead shared that she would be closing the tasting room early that day because they were slow and that she'd be happy to cork the wine we purchased so that we could leave. We had arrived over an hour before the stated closing time. I'd love to come back here and learn more about these (I'm guessing based on the labels) single varietal estate grown wines. But unfortunately I was embarrassed to subject my family to such poor service. read more

Came here in October over Halloween weekend and was so pleasantly taken aback with the excellent service and kindness of the staff! Despite preparing for a wine club member event, they allowed me and my friend to get a glass of wine and enjoy the Halloween and autumn vibes! The Sauvignon blanc was so crisp and refreshing. Originally booked a tasting at Romeo Vineyards & Cellars because it was so cheap ($30 for 4 wines) but it turned out to be a lovely experience! We were seated on their patio and it was an overcast day; they brought out a little heat lamp for us! We were surrounded by Redwoods, Cedars, Jasmine flowers, and other beautiful roses/flowers. Very cute and ambient. Alice was SUPER sweet, she was such a sweetheart! She had the perfect pace for bringing out each wine and was very knowledgeable. She also offered to take our pictures and took several for us! As far as the wine goes, I'm not much of a wine drinker but the wines had deep flavor profiles and were very smooth! I enjoyed the White wines and the chocolate truffle pairings at the end! Such a lovely, intimate tasting and wonderful experience. Would definitely return! read more

My friends and I stumbled upon this place after being turned away from another mini-winery due to it being fully booked. By chance, we walked into Romeo Vineyards and I was so glad we ended up here! They have the most beautiful patio with lots of trees and and flowers along the path. The tasting room is located at the end of the walkway and we were greeted with the friendliest staff. We opted for just a glass of wine instead of trying a flight. However, they were nice enough to let us have a sip of what we were curious about before committing to a full glass. Loved wine tasting here, such great wine! It was a very fun, educational, and delicious experience. The staff was so nice. We went during NYE weekend, it was cold so we had to sit inside. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because the inside area is pretty small ,so only a few people can do a tasting at one time. Blown away by this gem! I made a tasting reservation the morning of and was able to get a slot for that same afternoon. I did the $30 garden flight tasting plus the cheese board for an additional $30 and enjoyed everything! The selection of wines and cheeses were divine, our two hosts were welcoming, friendly, and informative of our selections. I spent a little over one hour here enjoying my experience. Our favorite winery! Wonderful wines, fabulous, friendly and fun service in a beautiful setting. Their tastings are always perfect and their club member parties are great fun. Went on a Monday afternoon to meet a friend while visiting the area. The outdoor seating is gorgeous with plenty of space, and we basically had the entire area to ourselves. The server for the wine tasting experience was great! He was very informative about all the different wines we had the pleasure of trying, and even gave us a bonus taste of a more aged wine. I honestly loved this place. I like semi sweet wines and we were referred to this place by another winery near by. Their courtyard is beautiful and we spend a good fee hours sipping wine outside on a warm summer day. The guy doing the tastings (I cannot remember his name, but in my defense I had some drinks) was very nice and kept feeding us delicious cheesy crackers. Had such a lovely time here! Came after wine tasting at a nearby vineyard and I had originally thought this place was a vineyard. I was nicely surprised though because this restaurant was so pretty! Lovely wine tasting experience. We arrived without a reservation and they welcomed us enthusiastically. We sat at a table on the side, and the ambience was perfect. Lots of plants around us, beautifully music, and delicious wines. The tasting included a white, three reds, and a choice between two chocolate and wine pairings at the end. Service was fantastic throughout, and everyone seemed to work collaboratively to help or check on us at some point. We enjoyed their reds and left with a few bottles to enjoy later. July 2017 was my first visit to Napa Valley and my wife and I stayed in Calistoga, CA. The weather was beautiful and it was a perfect time for wine tasting. During our trip, we went into various tasting rooms within the Calistoga city limits and Romeo Vineyards was our favorite. Not only did we really enjoy the wine, the experience we had was unparalleled to the other wine shops in the immediate area. The owner was there and was busy getting ready for an event that evening, but still made her way over to us to ensure we were having a good time. We were assisted by a gentleman who was born and raised in the Calistoga area and he shared about his experience living in the region and growing up near town. The tasting room is small, but has a very intimate feel that allows you to have a more one on one tasting with the winery staff. The grounds outside are very lush and they have a beautiful tall redwood tree in the courtyard. While we were there, we purchased a bottle of wine that we were recommended to drink in about 5 years. Can't wait to crack it open. If you are in Calistoga, stop in and come taste their delicious selection of wines. read more

LOVE their wines. My husband and I had the chance to try Romeo since we had the Calistoga passport. When we went it was raining, so seating was limited inside, and outside was of course wet, but we were greeted straight away and were sat not too long after they told us it might be a little bit of a wait. It's such a cute, unassuming tasting room, that being said it is rather small inside so I'd recommend making a reservation ahead of time. Now to the wines, their menu said we could try 4 but we were able to try more than that. I enjoyed their rose and their Sauv blanc. The rose will throw you off as it's not the standard "rose" color, but it was really delicious, it's made with petit verdot which is a nice switch up. The malbec was really nice, but I LOVED their old vine cab it had such a unique flavor that I haven't quite yet found words to describe it. I loved their Petit Verdot as well, I always love when a winery has Petit Verdot since it's almost always just used for blending; this was delicious as well. My husband and I really enjoyed the staff, they were friendly, engaging and knowledgeable. We do want to come back to try more of their great wines, maybe pick up some bottles, and maybe obtain a membership. I highly recommend them. read more

Romeo Vineyards is a cute tasting room located near what looked like the downtown area. We came expecting to see vineyards and such but since we're wine noobs this was a tasting room only as they're a small winery and their production and grapes are separate from their tasting room. We decided on the malbec and the house wine. Both were delicious and I would totally come back for the wine if it had not been for the so-so service and experience here. It was a Sunday and we came around lunch time. There was one other small group aside from us so we practically had the whole place to ourselves which was great. Decided on two glasses of reds accompanied by a cheese and meat platter. The wine was great. The food was great. But the service can use some improvements. The couple that was working there didn't seem knowledgable about the wines or the food. When the platter was presented to us and I had asked questions about the cheese, she didn't seem to know the answers. Also when I asked if they had a calendar of events or when we should come back, that was their opportunity to upsell and provide more information, none of which occurred. Would have liked to see a bit more passion in the people working there but I totally understand if this is a new industry and craft for them. Also if you are sitting outside, they play classical music and be forewarned, bugs will land in your wine. Also there was a grey cat that kept startling us as he slid along the fence above us. Also, they accidentally charged us for 2 bottles instead of 2 glasses. That soured my experience because 2 pours and a platter should not cost $100 in my opinion. read more

The wines here are solid. Here's the good, the wines are very tasty, fruit forward, and low in tannins, which are great for the novice drinker. If you just want to sit back on the patio and drink some wine with or without food, even young these wines taste good. Now here's my critique and that is I believe like much of Napa Valley they pick way too late and cater to the novice drinker, which usually doesn't age very well and that's OK. As a more experienced drinker, I look for something a little more complex and age worthy. these wines are high alcohol fruit bombs and there's nothing bad with that it's just not for my palate. Meanwhile, I'll sit out and enjoy the great service and the beautiful ambience of the redwood trees and babbling fountain. read more

Really lovely experience. Came here on a recommendation from our neighbors. Have been to calistoga several times and never knew this was here. It is a perfect little oasis on a hot day. There is a lovely patio under the trees where you can buy wine by the glass. Sometimes they make pizza in the pizza oven out back. If you want to do a flight you need to make reservations ahead of time. Relaxing and peaceful atmosphere and the staff were genuinely kind good people. I just visited Calistoga to go wine tasting for my good friend's birthday. We had a large group of nine which resulted in us being turned away by several tasting rooms. However, Emma, the manager, was so accommodating to our group of wine passport holders. While she couldn't offer the tasting indoors, she gave our group a complimentary bottle of wine to share as well as yummy crackers. By far the best service we had the entire day. My wife Lucy Keile and I visited Romeo Vineyards & Cellars on our first trip to Napa and we had SUCH a wonderful time there! Alice and Nathan were super friendly and helpful - telling us about the region and recommending different wines for us to taste. It really made a world of difference having a welcoming staff to make us feel at home. We met the manager Emma Blatcher at the Calabasas Film Festival and she was kind enough to invite us in for a tasting whenever we came into town. She is SUPER COOL and really looked after us on our visit. I highly recommend that you see if she's scheduled to work on your next visit, because not only is she knowledgeable but she's A LOT of fun to hang out with as well! Such a great sense of humor and a delight to have a chat with while tasting the delicious variety of wines. Our fave was the '03 Cab. We also purchased a couple of bottles of white (which we rarely drink, but we couldn't resist because they had the perfect balance of sweet/spicy & acidity). Romeo is in Calistoga which is up in the northern part of Napa. If you've never been there you have to go. Such a cool, laid back, chilled town with some great restaurants, taverns, and shops selling the wares of local artisans. Napa is such a huge place that it is easy to get sidetracked by the sheer number of wineries, but please don't overlook this town/vineyard because you will be very happy that you took the time to check it out. Have passed by this place several times since moving to Napa about 6 months ago. Decided to visit on a Friday afternoon around 5. This place is beautiful. The giant redwood tree in the middle of the courtyard, the flowers, the tables, the archways of plants/flowers. There just happened to be live music playing some jazz/oldies as well which created an amazing ambiance. We tried the Cab Franc, Petit Verdot, and Eugenia Cab. The Petit Verdot was just OK for our taste, the Cab Franc was quite nice and the Eugenia Cab was awesome. I think tastings are $30/person which is great value. It is such a nice peaceful place to sit for a glass of wine on a warm day. Definitely check it out! read more
