This is one of the best indoor ranges in the area. Modern facilities, great customer service and decent firearm prices. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and give solid advice. I took my CPL class here and it was very educational and never got boring. The class instructor was also top notch, kept the class moving, and was very professional despite some of the silly questions that get asked sometimes. Very rude staff. Called about some classes they offer and just got one worried responses and didn't seem to care to explain to me their answers just got a typical yes or no. Asked about the difference between their carbine I and II classes and just got a "they're different" also asked if family members can watch was he just provided a "do you wanna see them get shot" I'll be looking for another force on force Simunition training. read more

Ok this is my 2nd review (not sure where my first one went). Range/Range master was an awesome experience. Not a single complaint on price, atmosphere, etc. Pro Shop Staff: Seriously? Who is hiring these folks? Rude. Cocky. Yes you work at a gun store, yea I am even kind of jealous. However, your attitude is not necessary. I was very impressed on my first visit. The staff was friendly, the prices were very reasonable, and very clean. My rental 45mm was ok, but I had several FTF's and I wasn't limp-wristed. I could only use their purchased ammo for my rental. Fortunately I also brought one of my own and was able to bring in my own ammo, which of course needed to be inspected first. You can sweep up and keep your brass, not all places let you do that. read more

Nice range, good staff and decent selection of weapons and gear. Like to see more for left handers but know it is a minority for requests. Range could use a bit more lighting but other than that very nice. Go here on a regular basis, especially in colder weather. Like you can rapid fire and the classes offered. Only down side is the new website and Facebook page don't seem to list the range open/close schedule, have to call. Can get crowded on weekends, but if able to skip out during the week, very few people shooting. read more

It's a pretty nice facility, but you know how sometimes one person can ruin a person';s whole experience? They had a few of those people. It may be because they were busy, or dealing with inexperienced shooters, but I found their attitude and rudeness something that does not make me want to go back any time soon. read more

Within two days I spent $400.00 at Close Quarters Tactical and I planned on spending more. Out of that $400 I spent I bought a $35.00 flashlight. I was installing the flashlight and was snugging it to the rail and the screw broke. I took the flashlight back to close quarters and they said "not there problem call the manufacture". I pleaded to make any kind of deal such as the value of the light in range time which would have cost them nothing. The "Store Manager" made it clear to me that I was not a Valuable customer once again telling me "not there problem". I could care less about $35.00 but the customer service was awful I will never spend as much as another penny in Close Quarters Tactical. TERRABLE EXPERIENCE!!! read more

Although very busy. Nice place. You have to take into consideration the fact that it's busy. For good reason. All ranges are busy. Fact of life. Anyone complaining is spoiled and hasn't been to the range much. Have some patience. The reason they are busy is a good thing. Staff is knowledgeable and more than willing to help. But keep in mind you aren't the only one there. You have freedoms on the range here you don't have at others. Rapid fire, etc... If that bothers/distracts you, go to Double Action. They are more than happy to suppress you there. Everyone in my dozens of visits has been more than helpful. As long as you don't think you're the only one there, A1 service. Great choice of rentals for beginners, and no BS for an exchange while on the range for something else. Took excellent care of my beginner friends without question..... You want anything better? Buy your own property and shoot it up... Ranges are busy. For good reason. I applaud it. read more

I used to really like this range. They have a great selection of rentals, my friend raves about their classes, the range master used to be pretty cool. It's one of the least restrictive commercial ranges in the area. In the past 6 months, I would have to say that the customer service has been awful and slowly getting worse. I usually only come here for bullseye work with my pistol on days off. Usually I come in and walk straight to the counter towards the back of shop to pay for range time and check in. When I first started coming here they would greet me and say things like "We'll be with you in just a minute" if they're helping another customer or really busy and can't get to me. By the way, that's an example of great customer service. Now I come in and wait by the check in-counter. Most of the time, no one is watching the desk or is in between the range and the desk. I've had several experiences (with friends and alone) where the employees ignore us for upwards of 15 minute while we wait to check in. They seem to be "working in the area" but not working with customers. I'm not sure if I'm invisible or something when I'm there. Multiple occasions of literally standing at the counter, politely waiting. No, I'm not here to look at your tactical tissue box or 1 billion lumen lights. One of the employees makes it a point to ignore you until she's right behind a cash register about to ring you up, but I'll give her credit because she seems to be the most customer friendly person that works there now. Two thumbs up for her. Another time, I politely waited for a lane assignment right in front of the range until the RO finished his 15 minute long conversation about brass catchers with some other customer. I asked him for a lane and he gave me a blank stare until he understood that, No, I didn't come with the brass catching AR guy and I'd like my own lane, please. The last time I came by, I stood at the counter politely for 10 minutes until I flagged down one of the guys there and asked if they could ring me up for range time. The guy looked at me like I must have walked off an alien spaceship and told me the range was closed for a carbine class. Cool. Maybe you should put up a sign on your counter or something that says "You can shoot at 5pm because we are teaching people today." I don't follow these guys on facebook so there was no way I could have known. After that last experience, I drove 30 min to go to Double Action and decided I'm done with CQT. CQT only gets 2 stars because they're one of the few Class 3 FFL dealers in the area I know of. read more

Took our Girl Scout troop to attend a youth safety and women's self-defense course. It was an outstanding class led by Al. He tailored it to the teenage girls that were in attendance. He was funny and patient with the girls as they worked through their initial nerves. The girls loved the class! They learned great information, and were able to practice what they learned. While the selection is good and the facilities clean, in my experience it's not a very friendly place, prices seem higher, and they are not very interested in customer service. Great place. Staff was helpful without all the macho crap. Nice range but busy on a weekend. There's a lot of renters but the place has to make money. Prices on the handguns were comparable to what I've seen at other gun stores. The range staff is great. Again they don't treat you like they are better or smarter than you. I almost don't want to give this place a good review because too many people have already found out about it. I live 2 miles from this range and I see the increase in customers week after week. The shop is great and the range is great. Where they separate themselves from every other range in the Midwest is with the shoothouse, classes, and simunition city that is available to the public. You can clear a 2 story shoothouse using your own Glock 19 using live fire. You cant beat that. The classes are awesome and the staff has always been friendly to my wife and I. read more

went to CQT to shoot the brand a new gun paid 50.0 for range time and 2 bags of nasty reloads i will cover that problem in a few mins was told that there would be a 1 hour wait ok not a problem i was standing by the door to after 1hour ten mins i went back to see about the time frame was told they called my name and i missed it how did that happen i was less then 3 ft from the door the reloads that they sell did not run right the owner of the reloading place is named jeff and he has no clue what he is doing most of the rounds would not chamber when i got to blue water sportsmen club bottom line i will never go back to what is now called CQT as it turns out it use to be that hell hole hunts with double and it shows still to this day read more

Made my first trip to CQT today to get in some shooting. The range is nice and the staff was friendly. I did find the prices for range time to be reasonable and competitive. Did not look at much in the shop so I do not have a comment regarding that. I would have given the range a 5 if the lighting was better, but you could not see much unless your target was at more than 10 feet away. read more

I had the opportunity to attend the first class of a multi-class Shoot House course. Al, the owner, is extremely passionate about safety. Wish we had taken our CPL from him. Learned more in 1 hour than I did in the entire CPL 8 hour class we took. DIdn't get to shoot on the range, but from what we could see, it was very organized. I liked that they have a Range officer - some people are crazed idiots on a range. We were taken on a tour of the two "shoot houses" and can't wait to actually take more classes and begin to really understand how to protect my family. read more

Took my father-in-law to the range to shoot some assault rifles. Place was clean. We were told that there is no rapid fire shooting allowed and if we shot more than 1 round per second, we would be kicked out, before even shooting our guns. I found this confusing since they rent full auto guns at the site..... After speaking to others, it sounds like typically they allow rapid shooting. 2 stars for customer service. Great range! I would highly recommend this place! Awesome selection, reasonable prices, and the range is well supervised and kept clean. I don't mind the longer drive to CQT from Royal Oak even though I have a few other options much closer. CQT is hands down the best gun range in the Macomb/Oakland area. My wife and I discovered CQT about 6 months ago, and consider it to be hands-down the best range in the area!!! The facilities are clean and well lit, the range is well maintained, and the staff extremely helpful and friendly. It is THE range to use if you are tired of the "range nazis" that staff other facilities; they are there to help keep you safe, but not intimidate. My wife is relatively new to shooting, and she feels perfectly comfortable there. Just can't say enough good things about the business as a whole. I have visited multiple gun shops and ranges but always recommend Close Quarters Tactical above all others. The easy to use automated firing lanes are competed only by the professionalism of the staff. I had also taken the concealed pistol course with one of the many instructors that had gone above and beyond what I had expected. As prior military, I can say I still learned quite a bit about the laws and regulations on top of the basic fundamentals of weapons handling. If you have the opportunity and are a veteran to firearms or looking to try one for your first time, this is the place to go. read more

I had a horrible experience with CQT. After reading reviews and checking out the company's site, I was more than excited to purchase their groupon deal and spend an hour at their range. I live more than an hour away and made sure to call ahead. I was rudely told over the phone that it was a first come, first serve basis. The groupon noted two rental pistols or long guns but only pistols were offered (although plenty of long guns were available). Not having been to the range before, I listened to direction carefully. I filled out all forms requested, chose a pistol, and gave my license. I was then directed to stand back and wait for my name to be called. An hour passed without a name call and I began to notice customers that had come in much later than I being called back. I finally asked an employee who then, and only then, informed me that I was originally supposed to go in the back room and give my name. This is AFTER all employees who had initially serviced me watched as I stood waiting for an hour. I was beyond dissatisfied. Had proper directions been given initially, the hour wait (and additional half hour I waited after putting my name in) could have been avoided. No apologies were made and I was left to feel as though it was my fault for not knowing what was ever told. The ONLY reason I stayed at that point was the non-refundable groupon I had already purchased. The range itself was nothing to write home about. There were groups of people that had come in after me and were not told to give their name as well. They all ended up waiting a very long time. The deal was to be for 50 rounds of ammo and I was only given 40. I have been to several other ranges that had great customer service and will never go back to CQT. A 45 minute to an hour wait is nothing unusua for their customers and they do not even offer seating in their facility. read more

When I first went there, it was great. The owner took me on a full tour and everything. Staff WAS nice. They offered me LE discount and I started to bring my agents there. One time they said we don't give Le discount when multiple times before I have received. Staff is not very kind now. They answer with attitude and are very rude. One customer had a problem with their ar 15 stock. New one would not fit on his rifle. Salesman could not figure out the problem for the life of him. I went over and asked to look. The guy mixed up commercial and mil-spec fitments! Another time I brought my agents to qualify. We had everything arranged and the whole range rented out. They then tried to charge me 300 dollars! That is double the price we have been paying. Overall I am very unsatisfied with their service. The staff is snobby and unprofessional.
