We're not at Sotheby's. It's an indoor yard sale with fluorescent lighting -- let's keep the pricing humble. Organization is loose at best. Racks are packed, shelves are chaotic, and finding anything specific feels less like shopping and more like rummaging through someone's basement while they're watching you. But honestly, that's kind of the deal. If it were tidy, it wouldn't feel authentic. It'd just feel wrong. You might find something great. You might leave with nothing but dust on your hands and questions about humanity. Either way, three stars feels fair.

Stewardship of people's donated property to let it get trashed and broken and spread out. It's hazardous and a community health issue. I have seen people rummaging through bags left on the donation deck at night and just obliterating mess left for volunteers on Monday. And there's no cleanup in the parking lot! They need to be gated and closed off after hours

Closet Connection is a hidden gem tucked away on Pleasant Street in Malden (with convenient and inexpensive meter street parking!). There is a variety of upscale and high end fashion shoes, clothes, wallets, purses and more to go through! I had the pleasure of having Kristina assist me on one of my first (now favorite) purchases here a couple of months back. The Tory Burch flats were in very good condition at a great affordable price! Following my conversation with her, I started following ccmalden on Instagram and I'm happy I did since I found another great pair of Tory Burch flats to purchase. I saw the post early on in the week and kept my fingers crossed that it would still be available for purchase over the weekend! (I also look forward to the Flat Lay editions every week!) Eddie assisted me this past weekend and he was great-very patient in answering all of my questions, engaged in conversation and helped me lock in a fantastic (and luxurious) deal. How it appears to work is you can "try before you buy" a membership by making an appointment to swap one item. I'm honestly not sure why an appointment is needed because there was no one else in there when I went for my appointment and the person working in the store doesn't give any one on one attention while you shop. (I preferred this but others might want that). I brought in a nice dress for my swap (brand new with tags), and was surprised to see the condition of most of the clothes available. It's on par with Goodwill. Many things were pilly, faded, stretched out, and some just looked out of style. I took photos of the shoes to show an example of the condition of the items. I was hoping for more of a boutique experience with excellent pieces in good or like new condition. Gently worn is fine for secondhand, but a lot of these things had seen better days. I took my item and left. I can't recommend this place based on what I experienced today.

The best part is that if it doesn't work as well outside of the store, I can bring it back and swap for something else next time. SwapIt keeps my wardrobe fresh and allows me to pass along clothes that no longer fit my life to what I know will be a good home. They even participate in textile recycling so I can drop off the sad socks that have not found their mate or my kid's ripped shorts.
