Good quality customer service, but extremely poor product and installation. Had my "build in" closet done and everything is not as expected. The installation looks cheap, poorly installed, uneven, not matching parts, and lots of damages. They said they will send someone else to come and correct it. Will keep this review updated. We had a wonderful experience with Closets by Design. From the time we met with Kim for the consultation to the actual installation, not once we were pressured into anything we didn't agree with. Kim spent time talking to us to see what we were looking for. Our installer was great too. He didn't mind that our dogs wanted to hang out with him. Even though the overall price was higher than some others, the experience and final product are worth it. One company wanted to add a fee to remove the existing wire racks in the closets. Simply amazing! We first met with Kim Barnes who prepared a design for our closet which was beautiful and fit our needs. Kim kept in touch as our in-law suite was being constructed so when we were ready, they were ready to install. Communication between us was excellent! The morning of the install two men arrived and immediately went about their business. These two men were very professional and extremely polite, and were finished in just a few hours. Save your money and go to Container Store. The design was fine but the whole installation and communication sucked. I paid up with the hope that it would be more of a white glove service. I even accepted a 3 month wait for the installation. The sales women, Jen, told me it would be a 2 day event, where they come the day before and remove any items from the closet and prep, then the next day they install. 1. They shoved this whole event into day 2. They came at 1, finished at 8PM!! Major condo fine because I can't have workers after 5. Which they know. 2. Because they shoved it all in day one, I couldn't properly paint over the the nicks in the wall. 3. When I complained it was a not sorry - must have been a "miscommunication" They do not tell you everything upfront, no care when the installation experience goes bad - so you pay for a 5 star experience but you get a crap job. Now I paid all this money to upgrade my closet and it looks bad. So save yourself- go to Container Store or search for another installation service. read more

I met with Terri Gagliardi Trevelise, my Closets by Design designer, before the December holidays to help me design storage space for my basement. Terri was lovely and very easy to work with. She came up with an ideal plan and returned for a meeting to show me her design and to tweak it as needed. My husband and I decided to go forward during out meeting. Our install was first thing this morning (January 8th). John and Collin were out installers - also very knowledgable and easy to work with. By early afternoon my cabinets were set and ready to go. Closets by design built two similar closets for us. The sales person and the installers are fine. However when the installation was finished, we are very surprised to find out two closets look quite different. The drawers for one of the closets are unexpected small. When I reached out the designer, he told us he is not sure why these drawers are not in the same size. (I should have read the fine prints of each size.) Then I asked them to reinstall the drawers for us. But was told we need to pay a few hundred additional. I don't like the idea and want to talk with the manager. The most frustrating part is here. The managers NEVER called me back or explained anything to me even though the sales person promised he would. And I called the managers and left messages and I never heard back. Also, I am supposed to receive the warranty information right after the installation. But I didn't. Conclusion: If everything is smooth, you could be fine. However, if you need anything from them after you paid everything, it would be extremely difficult. I strongly doubt if they would fulfill their promise on warranty. read more

I had a very small walk in closet that was outfitted with old wire style shelves and hanging bars. I knew that more could be done to maximize the space and Jill Coyle designed exactly what I had in my head. I went to 2 other sites and the designs ended up with wasted space. I recently took advantage of a 45% off coupon (plus free installation) for a custom closet by Closets by Design. The are very overpriced for the quality of product. The design consultant was professional, as were the installers. However, our closet room which is about 8 feet long by 6 feet wide came to $4,800 ($2,700 with the 45% coupon + extra 10% off for booking right then and there). We picked the basic material - White. We did not ask for any custom shelves or drawers ... just closet rods & shoe shelves. We were shocked when we realized the material was exactly the same as Closetmaid in Home Depot, which was a small fraction of the price or even Ikea, which had the same material and shelving for pennies on the dollars we spent. I recommend quoting a few different places before committing to any closet designer. Unless you're going super duper high end with your closet, I would stay away from Closets by Design. Their basic design is very costly & it looks no better than Closetmaid or Ikea. read more

I contacted my designer Deborah A ("Debbie") in December 2018 to install custom closets in my new home. Within only a few days she was able to meet me at my property despite the busy holiday season. Being my first home, I was unsure as to how to setup the closets. Debbie patiently educated me on the company's offerings and took great effort to understand my needs. After taking measurements, she sent detailed diagrams and recommended layouts for the closet space and even followed up via phone call to talk through the available options. After making my selections, I placed a deposit and arranged a date to have an installer come. In between placing the order and installation, Closets by Design made multiple follow-up calls to make sure that I understood scope of the installation (timing, moving furniture etc). The installer, Lou, came shortly thereafter. He arrived at 10:00am on the dot, and we spoke briefly before heading into work. The project was budgeted for 2 days, but the installer completed the job (5 closets) within a matter of hours. Upon arriving home, I could have not been more thrilled. The units are better than I could have imagined. Each of the closet units fits perfectly, is a snug fit and is high quality to the touch. The closet layout easily doubles the usable space and is more than pleasant to look at. I even find myself leaving the doors open because they are so beautiful. I would like to thank my designer, Deborah A, and my installer Lou for doing such a terrific job and for making it such a painless process. Their capability and professionalism are top-notch and overall, I feel as though received a ton of value for the money. My prospective room mates also feel the same way and they mentioned that it was a deciding factor in placing an application to rent at the property. I could not be more grateful and would highly recommend that you reach out should you be considering custom closet work. read more
