I guess I'm not the only one who thinks the male associate is rude, after reading the comments. My daughter had applied online, waited a few days, and then went to visit them to inquire about the position they had listed on indeed. The associate asked her if anyone had called her back and after she replied "no".. he said, "That's because we're not hiring". These days it's hard to get anyone who is excited about looking for a job only to be treated so rude and for him to be smartass about it. No wonder this place has a 3 out of 5 rating. Me and my friend went in to sell clothes the lady we gave them to was very kind and pleasant. However the next day we went back to pick the clothes up and a gentleman was very rude to us. We walked in and politely said what we were there for and he said and I quote "are you just going to stand there or are you going to tell me your name" then when he gives the clothes he tells us to go to another store and makes it sound like he's shamming us for the brands of clothes that we had. read more

I've shopped here before and bought things that I like. They definitely have lots of different clothes that I would consider somewhat out of style or not name brand so I thought a bunch of my clothes I could consign there. I brought in two boxes with some under par stuff sure but at least 10 items had tags on them and several nicer dresses I only wore once. They didn't take ANYTHING because the clothes weren't "folded" I pointed out that nowhere does it say they need to be folded just clean which all my clothes were especially duh the clothes with tags on it. Just infuriating how snooty they were about it. If I go to a consignment shop to shop, I don't give a crap if clothes are slightly wrinkly if I'm getting a deal on them and the tags are still on it. Anyways, I don't think I'll be shopping or consigning here again. read more

I really like this consignment shop. The clothes are always better quality than other similar stores in the area, and the prices reflect that. However, I am willing to pay a bit more for better quality. The staff in the store is great. They seem to be more mature than other stores like this one. They always keep the store well stocked and it is clean in there, not the musty old clothing smell. The downsides to this store are few, it's a little crowded, there is no public bathroom, both are a little nit-picky. I've never had a bad experience in Clothes Mentor. I really enjoy shopping there. I love being able to buy name brands at low prices with little to no wear to them. Also, as a side note, I don't sell my own clothing there, so I am only reviewing on buying clothes. I will never visit this store again. I was in the area last week and popped into the store for a few minutes. I was not impressed with the quality or selection of the merchandise. Everything was unorganized and the employees seemed more concerned with their personal conversations tHan straightening up the store or checking on the customers. I was appalled to hear the employees bragging about the merchandise that they were hiding from customers so that they could purchase it for themselves when they got paid. Despite my better judgement, I purchased a pair of shoes. When I got home, I realized that they were just okay but not worth keeping. I decided since I would be close to the store in a couple of days, I would take advantage of their return policy. I looked over my receipt to confirm that the store accepts returns and headed to the store. When I took my shoes to the counter, the two clerks very rudely informed me that shoes cannot be returned. I told her that was no where on the receipt. She said "well, someone should have told you!" I can't help but think that returns impact the store's profitability and its easier to make up policies on the fly rather than treat customers with courtesy and respect. No wonder nobody I know would step foot in this place. Trash merchandise sold by awful employees. read more

Although the inventory is typically good, I will not be a customer any longer. It wasn't so much the words spoken during the series of events today, it was the tone of condescension used. We were told not to move the garments on the racks, in a reprimanding tone by one employee. The male cashier was inconvenienced by the sequence of my transaction then the items I brought to sell... "were not taking the sweater - THAT has moth holes"- which I was unaware of and clearly did not try to unknowingly conceal. When I asked how that happens, he stated that "It's too disgusting to tell you". I can no longer frequently visit or recommend this business based on the lack of customer service and respect. read more

I would levar no stars if possible. I came in with a few bags of clothing and shoes less then 10 minutes later, I received a text that they had looked through everything. I was in great disbelief since I had brought a good amount of merchandise that would take around 30 minutes to view. This led me to assume they didn't even bother to look at what I've brought. They simply made an assumption based on how I looked and didn't take the time. This is extremely disappointing since I don't even need the money but wanted my well loved clothing to go somewhere that's not Goodwill. I'm extremely disappointed and I do not recommend anyone go here to buy or sell. They are classist and if you don't look the part, they will quickly make a judgment on you. The owner is extremely rude and you can tell he's the one making a lot of these judgments the last time I went there to try to drop things off for review I was passed the time for drop off yet. I was there long enough to see the owner receiving a shoulder massage from one of his Employees. Clearly, they don't know how to conduct business professionally. They deserve zero stars. read more

I love this store!! I buy and sell from/to them. They have a great selection of items and their prices are the best around Asheville. You can get some AMAZING deals here, especially when they're having a sale. I see a lot of negative reviews about the employees but I've never had an issue with anyone there. They don't have a high acceptance rate (when selling) and they don't pay a ton for clothing, but it's totally on par with other stores like it. read more

I bought some shirts and blouses from this place and couldn't find my ticket but they had my information in the computer. I went back to get my money back ( because you couldn't try on clothes there). I tried to sell them back and they would not take give me my money back or purchase them back from me. I had a few other things that were new or in better shape then what they were selling they would not take! Very unfriendly staff and very unprofessional in dealing with public! I came in and bought some awesome clothes but unfortunately all didn't fit so I had to return. I drove over at 10:10 because website said they open at 10. No they open at 11. There was an employee that showed up at 10:25. I waited for her to settle in and called at 10:40. I let her know the hours are not posted on the website right and asked if she could be accommodate because I did drive quite a ways. She said no because it's a security issue. I took about 20-25 items into the store to try and sell. I left my clothes with the store and got a text when they had been looked over. I went back to the store, was told a total price for the clothes they would take, and was even given a breakdown for what items they would take and what they would pay me. I felt I deserved more money than I was offered because I had a couple of higher end items (such as a nice pair of Sperry boots and a Lilly Pulitzer dress.) The lovely associate working with me brought her manager over and together they looked at the items I felt I should have gotten more cash for. They very kindly relooked at those items along with the suggested price given by the computer and ended up giving me a total price I was satisfied with. I received cash on the spot and wonderful service. I will definitely be returning to sell and to shop! read more

I like the prices of some items that's why I give you guys 1 star. I just dont like the staffs behavior, they are not attentive to my needs, they talk bad stuff about other employees and customers, the new man owner is the ring leader I believe. I used to resell their twice a week but I wont be anymore due to the fact of I get mistreated and be told only to bring certain items or dont come back. What kind of decent human being says that to someone who has helped your store and your paychecks and been completely loyal. I just dont get it. I was told after my review that the judgement of me requesting a plastic bag for my clothing products was the employee trying to "make light of the situation". Well if that is the case then you people out there aren't as serious about why you are trying to cut out using bags in general. That absolutely does NOT make it ok and situations like that that seem confrontational should NOT be taken "lightly" and you should be ashamed for thinking so as a manager. I had quite a few items that I had purchased and was unable to carry them all so I requested a bag due to being unable to carry alone. This is a poorly run establishment and all I got was attitude pertaining to this as well as attitude for me coming into the store at what seemed to be an "inconvenient time" I can't help I got off work and couldn't get there until 30min until closing time. There are two sides to every conversation and comment. That said, we don't know the employees' sides, but I have NEVER experienced anything like some of the comments. The employees are always pleasant, enjoy their jobs (even saying it's the best job they've ever had) , and greet me every time I come in. I have had many fun and enjoyable conversations with 'the man', and to comment on what they take or don't take - it's always in accordance with their posted business practices. Don't take it personally. If I ask where I might find a certain brand or style, they are glad to point me in the right direction, even taking me there. The garments, shoes and accessories are well organized and I appreciate their selectiveness when it comes to what they accept. Vintage is one thing, but dated, wrinkled and worn is another. Plus I don't want to have to inspect knits for moth hole damage - they do that because they don't want their customers to buy a garment only to find out it has moth holes in it! read more

It's usually fun to shop at consignment stores, but not this one! The staff are very unfriendly and unprofessional and the clothes are of poor quality in most cases. Lots of Old Navy, Forever 21, and other low-end brands; some in poor condition/dirty. Don't waste your time. read more

I have been in twice this week and have had great luck on both visits! Not only did I sell a few things on both of my visits, I found new pieces to add to my wardrobe at really good prices. The staff have been extremely nice and very helpful on both visits. I would recommend checking this place out, they have everything. On a side note- if you are going here to sell, keep in mind you aren't going to get what you originally paid for your clothing. They will offer you fair pricing and give you cash on the spot. I don't understand the complaints about what people are offered. I took in clothes that were in good condition and barely worn, they took some things, offered me a decent amount for clothing that would still be sitting in my closet going unworn. If you go in expecting a ton of money for worn clothing then you have set yourself up for disappointment. If you go in looking to make a few extra bucks or take advantage of the awesome store credit system then you'll probably enjoy your visit. Just something to keep in mind. read more

I was told by a few friends not to bother trying to sell here, but I tried anyway and it was an absolute waste of time. Even though Clothes Mentor is suppose to be a gently worn/used resale store, they do not take gently worn clothing. You may have luck with a designer bag or jewelry that you have used/worn once or twice but they will offer you about 1/4 (if you're lucky) of the price they are going to sell it for. They have an excuse for everything and are not even polite. When I walked in I saw "all pass" on the majority of baskets behind the counter that had been brought in by hopeful sellers before me and that should have been a tip off but instead I left my clothing and jewelry for them to look for only to be offered $2 total. So I'll pass on my friends words of advice, Don't waste your time!!!! You have a much better chance at Platos Closet across town, and the employees there are much nicer!! ***Update - the business owner has since blocked me in hopes that this review does not show up. I tried to message her back saying I would update my review to include the fact that they did in fact buy my unopened Gucci perfume, but the "unpolite" owner of the store has since blocked me. Not typically the one to leave a review but this is well worth my time to help others. Me and my wife were shopping here and got into the store at 6:30pm. We were aware that they were closing at 7. 10 minutes went by and an older man working said, "Can I help you find anything in particular?" My wife tells him, "I am just looking at these pants" as she had them in her hand. She began scanning through the rest to see if she saw any other pair that she liked. Two minutes went by and as my wife is walking to the front to check out, the older man states, "we're trying to close and we are trying to bounce." It ultimately took me and my wife off guard and felt very disrespected by it. He saw it took us off guard and he asked if she wanted to try the pants on. My wife declined and placed the pants back on the rack. When we left the store and got in the car, you could see the employees inside the store laughing about the situation. If you feel like you have to kick someone out or you personally can not stay until your closing hours, then you may need to find another job/career. I have never experienced a store/business who wouldn't try to make a sale and present poor customer service directly to people who did not deserve it. It was extremely unprofessional and rude. We have never felt mistreated or like we didn't belong in any other store until today as we were treated by this man. As I can tell from other post, there is no accountability taking place and no apology or "reviewing" the situation and speaking with someone will solve this. This obviously is a reoccurring situation and has turned many people away. We will never shop here again nor recommend to anyone. Truly baffling. read more

I recently visited the clothes mentor in Asheville to sell some of my high-end couture clothing. I found the entire staff very welcoming, friendly and professional. I especially enjoyed working with Chip. He gave me an incredibly fair price on my items and was extremely personable. This was after I saw him be so nice to other women who shop there all the time. He also put the bag I bought on a wet counter, then made a scene in front of other customers and embarrassed me.
