I went here for the first time today and was a little hesitant reading the other reviews. I thought the staff was friendly, was greeted when I came in. I brought a bin of clothes for them to go through and the associate explained their process which I think is pretty standard for stores like this (plato's closet, once upon a child etc). You're making 1/3 of what they might sell something for, if you really want to make money back on something then you need to sell it yourself on marketplace, mercari, poshmark, a garage sale etc. It took maybe 15-20 minutes to go through everything. I think pricing was fair/what I was expecting for my items. I also looked around the store and was impressed with how reasonably priced everything was. They have A LOT of inventory. Customer Service is poor. I walked in and generally someone said hello. No one said hi, I asked for the price of a bag and said I couldn't see the pice because it was too far away (behind counter). The employee states price and turns her head without asking if I wanted her to pull the bag down. Attempted to sell some clothes to this store who claims to give cash. Some of the clothes I took had original tags on them and the others were not worn more than twice. A leather satchel with laptop pocket included. Not worn. They were clean and folded nicely. They tell you they only pay 25% of original price. After leaving the items at the store for 30 minutes(they weren't busy) to be priced they determined a laundry bag full of items was worth nothing! I certainly did not expect a lot but nothing? The things they had in the store was more worn than the things I had. Not sure how they actually price things or determine they are worth nothing but it's sad. The staff aren't friendly at all! Seem robotic. I would not recommend. You can get better things from Goodwill or other non- profits. read more

We've all heard about Stitchfix and Wantable, but let me tell you about this understated gem of a store. Clothes mentor is first and foremost a clothing resale store, stocking items that are in style and within two years of fashion. They keep brands like Anthropologie, express, free people, madewell and so many more. But not only can you bring your clothes in to sell, buy items that fit your fashion sense but you can arrange a free style session. You tell them what you are looking for, your sizes, likes and dislikes and they prepare a whole fitting room for you. I usually work with Bri who kindly pushes me out of my comfort zone. I make a rule of trying it all on as I've found many styles I wouldn't buy for myself but love. It's a great way to reduce some of fast fashion and get what works for you. Haven't been here in a year so I thought I'd give it another try, just to see if it had improved. I took in 4 boxes of nice clothes, shoes, perfume & purses to sell, some of which had tags on & perfumes were new in unopened boxes. Of course I got the same spiel that they were overstocked & very picky about what they were accepting. Well, then why did I just receive an email saying they were currently buying. They took 27 items & I got $120. I thought that was ok, but then I stopped by today, out of curiosity, to see what they were selling my items for. My Kipling purse with tags on was selling for $94. Many other items of mine were also selling for $30+ & it looked like a Tory Burch purse had sold, as well as many other items that I had brought in. After I saw this, it just reiterated that they really are a rip off store. I know they have to make money, but then pay people a fair amount for their nice things. I used to bring my very stylish, good quality (some things never worn or worn only for one season) here all the time and felt I got a fair...ish price. I stopped a few years ago when the offers were getting less and less. I decided to give them another try today. I brought in a lot of barely worn items that were from last winter season. I understand when they pass on certain items that they know will probably not sell to their clientele. So I'm not complaining about that. However, the items that they did offer to take were worth way more than the $25 they offered! The jeans alone were worth more than that. February 2024. Posted for family member I had the opportunity of visiting the Clothes Mentors to discuss resale of some Michael Kor's riding boots ($200.00 retail value). Please note that I have worn the boots only a few times and they present as new. To my surprise the seemingly nice store representative offered me "$11.00." While I found the above mentioned offer appalling, it wasn't until after I researched prior reviews that there seems to be a similar pattern. While I don't believe jumping to conclusions would render any positive results: I felt there were some racial undertones that assisted the representative with reaching such an unreasonable conclusion. Love this store! I go there all the time and find amazing items. They don't give a lot for ur clothes but I didn't think I would go in and make a ton either or I would sell them myself. I have shopped CM for years and started realizing there maybe a lil bias in their buying methods. Today proved it for me. I took my brand new Brahmin purse in (no tags) to see what they would price it at. Over $300 dollar purse she told me that she priced it at 16.00 and wanted to give me $8 dollars for it. They are scamming people out of money I told her to remove the purse from the sale. I was born at night but not last night. I will be reporting this it is the store in Coon Rapids MN. Then she tried to tell me you dont get points with sales she has been their for 2 years. I told her I always got points and I have been shopping their over 10 years. Also, on the website they say they price the items a 3rd of retail and then pay a 3rd of that she didnt do that at all I am very insulted that she thought I was stupid enough to sell a 300 purse for 8 dollars she couldnt say it was worn because I got it for my birthday March 2nd read more

This was the best clothing exchange store(for the prices) that I've been to. And I lived in LA for several years. This store trumps most of resales shops there. They are selective with the clothing that they purchase. But, this makes the shopping experience more eclectic for the shoppers. Everything was organized, clean and the staff was courteous, helpful and professional. I was very impressed. The only downside was these beautiful hard-working girls had to work without air conditioning in 90 degree weather?? I actually really like Clothes Mentor, although I've never attempted to sell clothes to them (which tends to be the main source of criticism for Clothes Mentor and Platos). There's a surprising amount of clothing here, although the quality widely varies. They almost ALWAYS have some sort of 50% off sale on red or green tags, which is how I was able to snag an express sweater and a loft cardigan for $9 today. Their shoe selection is also pretty decent, although be aware that the attended customer base of CM skews older (so you'll see a lot of striderite and other podiatrist- recommended footwear). My biggest issue with the store is that, while there's a lot of gems hidden in the racks, some stuff doesn't move at all. I've been coming here for about six months, and I swear I've seen the same cardigan every single time. read more

I have NEVER been so shocked at terrible customer service in my life. I walked in with a basket of several new and nice clothes.. They gave me the run- down of what happens and I said .. maybe can you just look through and see if you'd even be interested..? they quickly looked through and basically rejected everything saying it was too fancy ( a casual brand new dress) or they didn't want or need it or even though it was brand new with tags, it wasn't the name brand tags they wanted.. I thought to myself.. wow, that's sort of lame.... but said nothing.. the next thing that comes out of the lady's mouth is " Well, you can just leave if you are going to have a bad attitude" and I said excuse me? She asked me 3 times to leave.. lol lol and she said "I saw you smile when I told you about the name brands we accept and I said "what are you talking about?" She said " You have a bad attitude" and I said.. " YOU have a bad attitude and actually I do think its snobby that you wont accept a beautiful new shirt from Kohls with tags.. un real.. I will NEVER get near there again.. plus they take 70% of what they would sell it for.. you get like a dollar. Its a second hand store, not a Beverly Hills snotty store.. get over it to them .. terrible/ inept.. they don't know what they're doing..weirdest and worst customer service hands down. Love the clothing selection, I am always finding great items at affordable prices here. They have good sized dressing rooms and when you have a lot of items that you are carrying to try on they will start a basket for you so you can continue shopping before you are ready to try on. I find that very helpful! I'm always a bit disappointed when they only take one of the items I drop off but they are selective in what they take and they give a fair price in my opinion. read more

Best resale store in the area! Staff is friendly and helpful. Their store is also very clean and organized. I find many great brands here like Coach, Kate Spade, Tory Burch, Torrid, Lululemon, and a lot more. Literally every brand you could possibly want, under one roof. I love Clothes Mentor so much. Every time I visit family in Wisconsin, I stop in here and often leave with much of my year's wardrobe! Here's what I like most: - The selection itself, although I should mention that much (not all, but much) of their clothing tends to be fairly conservative. Even though at 25 I'm younger than many of the customers I see in Clothes Mentor, the selection is not a deterrent because I'm quite a conservative dresser, partly by choice and partly by necessity (I work in a church). My favorite brands that I find here include Ann Taylor, Loft, J. Crew, Banana Republic, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Talbots, Lands' End, and The Gap. - The store is well organized, with clearly demarcated categories: short-sleeved shirts, long-sleeved shirts, cardigans, pullovers, jeans, designer jeans, dresses, jackets, winter coats, etc. All the clothes are also organized by size and color. - In contrast to reviews that remark on the poor quality of the clothing, that hasn't been my experience at all. Once in a while, I'll notice an item that's a little faded, stretched, pilled, etc., but usually the quality is consistently high. - The prices tend to be very reasonable - typically $10-25 depending on the item and brand (somewhat more for coats and handbags). My only criticism is that I don't find the sales associates to be especially courteous, and I have to wonder if some of that may have to do with my age. I've noticed that, while their employees often offer to start fitting rooms for middle-aged customers, I always have to go to the counter to ask for help, even if I'm holding ten or twelve items. It's a little annoying to me, but frankly I think their clothes are such a good value that I'm willing to overlook it and continue to patronize their store. read more

I got there at 7:35pm (they close at 8:00) and a different sales girl was there. She stared me down as I parked from inside the store window, then the second I walked in she rudely said "uh, you know we close at 8 right??" ***BEWARE OF OWNER My mom and I used to LOVE this store. It was a go-to meeting spot where we would browse the racks and chat. This time was different. My mom found a great coat priced at $16. When the salesgirl heard it was $16 she said "16? We would NEVER price it that low" and proceeded to tell my mom she would have to find the "actual tag" for the item. I stepped in and said, well the tag that's attached to it says 16 dollars plain as day, how can you just change it? To which she responded "well I can ask the owner". The owner said no and the girl and her coworker proceeded to dig through a portfolio full of tags. My mom asked the owner if they could talk about it and all she could say was "I can't sell you the coat" and continued to talk about this mystical "real" tag that was supposed to be something like SIXTY dollars instead of the marked $16. There was no way to know if the "real" tag even existed and they couldn't find it anyway! It was like they were accusing my mom of switching the tag or something! And if the owner really wanted to put a new tag on it she could just make one instead of insisting there was an original one in the first place. She refused to even make a new tag to sell it to us at the insane $60 instead of $16 (it isn't even parka season anymore -- the high tomorrow is SEVENTY). And not only that, every single time I tried to reason with her she talked over me. She clearly didn't care at all what I had to say, and she obviously didn't care that other customers were beginning to watch her talk down to us. She then offered to take down a phone number and call us when they "found the tag". No sweetie, but you can call us when there is a new owner as we will not be back until there is. I have been to this location multiple times with laundry bins of designers amazing in style items and multiple times the employees have spent less than 5 minutes looking and take nothing. I once brought in 7 full bins and it took them less than 20 minutes to "go threw" them. They didn't even look through at least 4 of the 7. I would avoid this place at all costs. I am never going here again. This location is completely disappointing. Their clothing selection is extremely underwhelming. I have also tried to sell here twice, and both times I left angry. The first time I brought in a variety of nice, gently used brands. I would say the items I purchased originally between $30-70 each. They passed on most of it. I was confused but just assumed it wasn't what they were looking for at the time. Recently I brought in two huge bags of clothes to sell. They completely rejected all of it saying they don't accept "teen brands." This doesn't make any sense because many of the brands I brought in (including free people, american apparel, j jill, new york & co) are all listed on their website as brands they accept. I don't think they even looked through the items I brought. The atmosphere of the store is bland. The few times I have shopped there the owner has never been helpful but comes off as extremely judgmental. I have met one nice employee here. read more

Shopped here for the first time yesterday and I have never found so much I liked in one store, let alone under budget. I basically revamped my entire wardrobe (shirts, pants, sweaters, a skirt, and a dress) for $150. Just one of the pairs of pants would have cost that in a department store, which I know because they-like many of the pieces I purchased-were brand new and the original tags were still attached. Huge selection in lots of colors, sizes, styles, and levels of formality. You have to be willing to take the time to look and try stuff on, but the selection is so huge that I found boatloads. Staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. I usually hate shopping as I find it frustrating and expensive and nothing ever fits correctly. This was like knocking out the whole mall in one stop and saving a ton of money to boot. I left feeling confident and happy and couldn't wait to get dressed for work today. read more

Meh, its good and bad. I like a lot of their inventory, but I tried to sell some stuff here recently and was disappointed with what they offered me for the things they did take and with a lot of the stuff they didn't take. They took a vera bradley purse and matching wallet, nice Jessica Simpson handbag, small Michael Kors wallet, and a bunch of shirts and only gave me 38$ for all of it. And the stuff they didn't take they told me was more "teen" style (I'm 24) and mind you, my stuff is nice, especially considering some of the clothes/shoes I have seen on their racks. For example, they passed on a worn once mint green trendy dress I bought from Francescas, which is not a cheap store. They also passed on some cute sperry boots. Overall, there are some good finds here, but don't bother bringing your high end clothes/accessories because you won't get anywhere near what you paid for them. read more
