My experience has been all over the place with this location. Last time I took items in I was told they were over 3 years old & they couldn't accept them. I honestly don't think she bothered to look anything up on the site they use to evaluate what they accept for resale. That wasn't the case there was several things that I had bought recently at a couple of known stores that I just didn't like the fit after I wore them a couple of times. Have tried to buy from them when I take items in to sale & can not find anything I really like. Kinda all looks the same, nothing stands out. Took in a few high-end items yesterday. Two young women at the counter quickly looked through the items and offered $8 (total) for two pairs of 7 for All Mankind jeans. They clearly had no idea what the other brands were, so didn't consider anything else, which is likely why the store had a really mediocre selection. I would give Clothes Mentor less than 5 stars if it was an option! The clothing is outdated and the Manager is uneducated. Consignment pricing is not relevant and their resources are outdated. This time I took thing that still had price tags, new tennis shoes and various excellent condition pickleball/tennis clothes. They offered a meager $25.50. Embarrassing low ball offer. I have been a loyal customer at Clothes Mentor in Highland Village since the opened. They recently changed their drop off clothing policy from 1 hour before closing to 2 hours before closing. I arrived yesterday, unaware of the new policy, 1 hour and 50 minutes before closing. They sent me away and I totally understood. Today, I made it a point to arrive BEFORE 5PM. They close at 7. I was informed that they were not accepting any more buys due to the quantity of clothes received. I told them I was there yesterday and was sent away due to the new policy so today I made it a point to get there before 5 PM. Please don't waste your time going here. I recently dropped off a bag of clothing that was neatly folded and received a text within 5 minutes that my buy was ready. I knew something wasn't right and looked through my clothing and EVERYTHING was still neatly folded, just like when I brought it in. These young ladies will waste your time. They will tell you that your items are older than 2 yrs old but have the store filled with ancient items that my great-grandmother would wear!! I walked around to see if there was anything that sparked my interest but unfortunately I saw nothing!! And the store smelled like a Goodwill. Went here to trade in some clothes to get some extra money and was pleasantly impressed. I like that you sign in to a tablet when you walk in and everything is done through text messaging--no more pen and paper and waiting around to find out when you might get called. So, I dropped my bag with the lady behind the counter and waa told that she would take a look and see what they could buy today. Their focus was on spring items and you would only get about 30% of what they would sell it for. Even though this was not a lot it was better than nothing. While she checked out my items I looked through the pants and dresses they had on the racks. I wish that I hadn't just bought a pair of black pants for work as they had a plethora of them. The dress selection was not the best, but I did manage to find one dress that could possibly work for me. Unfortunately I only made $7 on my sale, so I decided not to get anything this time around. But, I definitely will be back when I need more black or any colored pants. I just wish that there was a Clothes Mentor closer to me as I really liked the selection of clothes and sizes that they had. If I could give ZERO stars, I would have! This was my 2nd time trying to get rid of some of my stuff. I took in two huge bags, lots of jewelry and some shoes. They bought 8 items for $13! They wanted to give me $3 for some really cool winter boots that I bought ($50) at Macy's last year (NEVER worn). They didn't purchase one piece of jewelry! The excuse was that they received a large purchase from a customer earlier in the week (well where is it? ) Their selection of jewelry sucks!!! I should have know this was the way my visit was going to go because two other ladies before me left with large quantities of stuff and the look on their faces were not happy! The excuse from the young girl (that knows nothing about fashion, obviously because the way she was dressed) that I dealt with that my stuff was dated! Please take a look at your inventory, I don't know how you stay in business! You don't have to worry about me going there again. On my goodness.... I was taking some clothes to make room in my closet. I love the fit model at Calvin Klein, I took in 8 or 9 pieces in. I should have listened to my gut when my first interaction was with a very rude woman who was over middle aged (owner? Manager?). Mind you I am in position of power at work and love to look fierce. I browsed the shop it's was like a thrift store but not as organized. No good brands or anything of substance i.e. Just fab shoes So I get the text that they are done and went back in after 2 hours, they told me it would be done in one. So they picked 4 dresses to purchase grand total of $25.00! First I thought it was for each... nope for all of them. I felt it was a slap in the face! Are you serious?!?! So it turns out that they decide what the retail value is, then takes 75% off and gives you 1/3 of what is left. Purchase price is over 200.00. So they can keep the 25.00 measly bucks and I'm donating to the Salvation Army. If you want Calvin Klein power dresses in size 14 I dropped it off at the Denton location. Smh So cut to a month or so after my review on yelp. I get a call from a sweet young lady. she informed me that ownership and management has changed. Haley advised me she was the new manager, and wanted to speak about my review. First and foremost such a sweet young lady, well spoken, she expressed her passion for the store and her work ethic. GREAT JOB CLOTHES MENTOR!!! You got a great employee on your hands don't screw it up!! I digress, Haley offered 25% off on my purchase. I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews for this location. I've bought and sold at this store for years. Never once did I have a bad experience. Just like any resale and consignment store, it's hit or miss when it comes to selection of things to buy. I think the prices are fair. A retailed Ann Taylor top goes for $60 easily. They sell it for $14. I think that's a good price. You can get several outfits for under $100. I like to buy from here if I'm in between sizes and don't want to spend a fortune on a new wardrobe. As far as selling to Clothes Mentor, they are clear and upfront with the way they buy clothes. And if they pass on items, they are kind about it. The employees are super sweet and I always enjoy shopping there. I would say, if you had a bad experience in the past you should go back. Maybe this time will be different. read more

I recently paid my first visit in over a year, and was surprised to recognize many of the same dresses still on the racks a year later! I was anticipating a much higher level of inventory rotation within that timespan, especially since this location seems to get a lot of foot traffic. I was also disappointed to find that their used Columbia jackets were priced higher than the cost of a brand new Columbia jacket next door at T.J.Maxx during off-season. I went to this location 3 times, looking at the same purse each time. I never had much time to look as I was always on my way to an appointment when I stopped in. The last time I went in (about a month ago), I gave myself extra time to look at the same purse. I ended up buying it. After regular, but not daily use, I'm sad to say the leather on the purse has torn in several places. This store does not offer refunds on purses, so I'm stuck with a torn leather purse that cannot be repaired. I was skeptical about buying this and should not have made this purchase. I tried to sell a pair of shoes to them and was told "We don't take those kind of heel". Funny since I BOUGHT THEM THERE 3 months ago. The girls that do the buying are also quite rude. This shop just wasted 2 hours of my time. I took a bag of designer handbags down there to be sold. I wasted my time signing in with my name address and drivers license. Left the bags there to be reviewed, drove home, waited 90 minutes only to drive all the way back to the store and be told they don't want the bags because they are over 2 years old. When I asked why they didn't just ask me how old the bags were when I brought them in... the girl said, that's just not our policy. So I'm guessing their policy is just to waste their Customer's time. I'm not mad that they didn't want the bags, I'm mad about their business practice of not being honest up front. A big waste of time! I took in 35 pairs of shoes from Nordstrom, Neimans, etc. all high quality and worn once and just a year old and in boxes still, they took NOTHING! Second time in 1 week I thought I'd try again, but with jewlery. Took in all high end again and some custom, barely used, most still with tags. I also snuck in a pair of diamond earrings just to see what would happen. I returned to find NOTHING again was purchased! Their excuse both times was they were 'over stocked.' If you're overstocked, then tell customers before they drop time and a items!! What's even funnier is they had a used Louis Vuitton priced at $1,850 that sells new for $1,575 and I know this because I just purchased this same purse 2 weeks ago! Such an odd place. read more

I brought some really excellent quality, name brand jeans in along with about 5 tops. They told me 45 minutes. Over an hour later they offered 1.50 for one top. Enjoy shopping here but experience selling was ridiculous. They must not have been in the mood to buy because 3 of the things I brought to sell I bought THERE within a month ago! One all black BCBG after 5 dress was new never worn and I had 3 beautiful tops/sweaters lightly worn and less than 2 years old from Anthropologie. They called me within 30 minutes to tell me order was ready when they told me to expect 3 hours initially- that told me immediately they did not inspect carefully. I have bought some cute things here at reasonable prices, but have not had much luck with selling. You might as well forget it, if it is Saturday or Sunday. I have tried 4 different times to bring clothes in to sell on weekends only to be told, (rather rudely) that they are not buying today -- come back during the week. One time I even called ahead to verify they would look at my clothes. When I got to the store an hour later, I was turned away once again. I work full time and it is not convenient for me to get to this store during the week. If they don't buy on weekends, they need to advertise that on their website and on Facebook so we don't waste our time. Right after this store first opened, I guess they were just building their inventory, and they cheerfully bought several items from me at pretty good prices. It has gone downhill from there. The only other time I was actually able to get them to evaluate my clothes, they refused 95% of them, and offered me an insulting amount for brand-new, never worn Asic athletic shoes. It is also staffed by young girls who seem to be more interested in chatting with eachother than helping customers. read more

Like others, if I could select anything lower than one star I would. I have sold items to the Highland Village store twice. My first experience was horrible but I wanted to give them a second chance. The second time was even worse! The girls that work in this store are rude. My last time in, I had several name brand purses in good condition. They didn't even take one of them -- this after the sign on the door said they were looking for purses, etc. I can make more having a garage sale at my house than I can selling to Clothes Mentor. A good place to buy sometimes but I would definitely recommend not selling here. Whoever is going through your clothes for buying purposes chooses the labels and styles they personally like as opposed to what is in style and on trend. Just look at what the employee is wearing and you will know what I'm talking about. Additionally, they do not pay anything for the clothes. Awesome experience today! I've been to the store once before and only found a few items on my own. This time I told them what I was looking for (vacation & work clothes) and OMG!!! They put together some great outfits and kept bringing me more stuff to try on! I felt like they gave me honest opinions about what looked good and didn't, and I ended up with clothes that I LOVE and can't wait to wear! Thank you to all the sales girls who made me feel like a million bucks....even though I spent waaaaay less! I will definitely be back! I've sold a few times but always somewhat disappointed but this last time takes the cake. I would advise they hire people who are knowledgeable of fashion. I took a pair of Cole Haan, Stuart Weizman and Via Spiga shoes (all never worn). I had two black leather handbags in great condition and a pair of Chinese Laundry flats. They took the flats. That's it! They said the other shoes were for "older women and not their clientele". That's hilarious. Drive to Dallas to Clotheshorse Anonymous or donate your items.
