There are certain types of business where it seems like the reviews are generally negative. It's…read morenot that people don't have good experiences - it's that the bad reviews are passionate and the good reviews are seldom good enough that you ever feel like you have to rush and write a review of it. Furniture reviews, it would seem, fall into this description. When you have a bad experience, you want to share it because someone has been messing with your home. While you may want to share a good experience, for the most part when it comes to furniture we "expect" a good experience and giving us one feels like it's just the way it should be. There are several national furniture brands that have scathing ratings yet they are "popular." Clearly, those having good experiences simply aren't writing the reviews. Bob's Discount Furniture and Mattress Store is exactly what you expect - a discount option for home furniture and mattress needs. I'd visited a couple of times before, however, had never actually bought here until recently when a friend visited the Castleton Bob's while helping me get a guest bedroom set up to help support me as I recover from recent health issues. This is located in the same strip center as Castleton's Ale Emporium. It's a huge, brightly decorated location. As I'm a bit older, Bob's makes me think of Value City - a place where I bought a lot of my affordable, moderate quality furniture when I first started out independently. It's not a great place. It's for the most part not an awful place. It's the place someone goes who has to be budget conscious, or who wants to, when getting furniture. My friend visited here while I was in the hospital and she and I and the sales person consulted back and forth. While my friend is a lifelong friend, shopping to meet the needs of a person with a disability is somewhat different and Bob's adapted well each time I would provide feedback on needs. We were looking primarily at beds for a small bedroom. We considered a few options, however, kept things very simple. Because the bed could end up being mine at some point, we also considered accessibility. So, the basics of the experience: The sales person was friendly, helpful, and honest about limitations (for example, at one point we were looking at a reclining option with my new limitations. This sales person would acknowledge when that feature would and would not be available). We eventually found what we wanted, made the sale, took part with us, and had the rest delivered. We were assigned a delivery window and instructed that an adult with ID had to be home. Additionally, they will wait 15 minutes upon arrival - after that, they leave and you will need to reschedule. This is no-nonsense, however, it's also explained up front. As I'm limited to home right now (I just got discharged from the hospital), it was easy to ensure someone would be here. I got an e-mail the morning of delivery giving me an expected window. That said, it could be earlier. Our delivery arrived a bit earlier. I had my ID, though it was never checked. The delivery people were friendly, efficient, and set everything up (we'd signed up for this). They took packaging with them. The set-up is a solid, entry level bed. It's moderate quality. I sure don't expect it to last long-term, however, it meets my need now. 5 star? Oh heavens no. I initially thought a 3-star was fair, however, I honestly can't think of anything that was truly wrong here. I really just consider this a solid experience with solid sales, a decent price, on time delivery, and good communication. For those needing a budget option for furniture with an experience that matches, Bob's offers it. I have not dealt with customer service post-sale as I've not had the need. However, given my recent stress around health I really appreciate that Bob's offered a low-stress purchase experience.

After visiting several furniture shops and…read moreonly finding very basic, non interesting pieces, I was blown away to come here and fall in love with almost EVERYTHING. Each piece is handmade and the owner started this company so he could bring back pieces from his travels in an affordable and sustainable way. Many pieces come from India specifically. There's a few reviews mentioning high prices, but these pieces are unique and not massed produced, and are still significantly cheaper than places like Pottery Barn, West Elm, Arhaus, etc. They'll last forever, unlike IKEA, and I even found a piece similar to one I'd found on Wayfair for cheaper. You can check their website for pieces, but their inventory moves fast and they often get new shipments, so go in the store to truly see everything available. The staff are friendly and welcomed me when I arrived. I'll be back! There's several pieces that I fell in love with that I might be returning to purchase...

It might seem strange to do an update review without actually changing my rating, however, a…read morecombination of today's visit and it having been over five years since my last review both lead me to revisiting this review. While I've always had a strange affection for Castleton Square, the truth is these closed-air malls are dying out in favor of mixed usage malls and open-air concepts. Fashion Mall is still around, of course, and Greenwood Park is still here even if it has done at least a modest renovation toward open-air. Washington Square? It might as well be dead. Lafayette Square? The same. Hamilton Town Center is pretty rocking, however, it largely is an open-air concept. Fashion Mall is great for luxury items and a food court vastly superior to Castleton. Both malls have movie theaters - while I love Landmark, I actually give the nod to AMC Castleton here. Castleton is still a Simon mall. It continues to have major spots vacant including the front of the mall spot recently vacated by Forever 21. This is an older mall that still has sporadic issues with violence, a fairly strong IMPD presence, and a woeful lack of major draw retailers. JC Penney is still here despite rumors of bankruptcy, though the store itself is so dirty you'll likely need a tetanus shot when you leave. Von Maur is fine. You've got Macy's with a Starbucks in it, though Cath Coffee is local and has a kiosk in the mall (the old Starbucks). The food court still has a Chick-fil-A, a Luca Pizza, and a handful of others. McAlister's still has a spot with an exterior entrance. It looks like a Mexican joint has taken the old Johnny Rocket's spot that has seen several other restaurants quickly fail. I'd recommend coming in from East 82nd Street as streets are smoother. East 86th Street is getting some attention (finally), but you'll still likely need an alignment from driving it (if you go to Costco or Saraga you know this). Parking is typically abysmal here. People argue over ADA spots (Seriously, I was yelled at today for moving too slowly to vacate one). There's a tension in the mall that seems palpable and I actually felt a sense of relief when I left. My favorite spots? The movie theater, of course. I do still like the McAlister's. I'm a fan of Earthbound Trading Company off the food court. I like FYE, Yankee Candle, and Spencer Gifts. There's a Native American goods shop that's pretty cool, as well. Four Seasons Florist is a nice spot and Grade A Tattoos has a place here. Boss Battle Games has a $15 entry and you can play all day. Lego still has a great and popular spot here. There's an exterior sign indicating Hobby Lobby is joining the mall soon - I think around the long vacant Sears spot. Accessibility is pretty decent here. Main doors are automatic. Accessible/ADA parking is plentiful (though frequently misused and nearly never enforced). The main accessible restrooms are near the food court. I'd still like to see this mall get a more practical retailer - Hobby Lobby may fill that need soon. I noticed today that there's almost an international marketplace vibe starting to happen here with a more diverse clientele and a few more indie shops noticed. Ultimately, I didn't really enjoy shopping here like I have in the past. I didn't hate it, but I didn't leave thinking "I can't wait to go back." Instead, I noticed the tension and I really felt like I'd much rather go to free-standing or open-air spots than be immersed in this tense, uncomfortable shopping experience. I'd probably go 2.5 if I could. I can't. 2 feels a little low and considering there's still some great shopping to be had here I'll stick with a 3-star rating with a slight disclaimer that Castleton Square sure seems like it's headed downhill.

The apparently broken air conditioning and weird smell when I walked in didn't make an awesome impression either. But then I saw the soaps. A bunch of artisan, finely milled soaps with gorgeous packaging, heavenly scents and elegant, imaginative designs. One soap was a meticulously whittled owl visage; another, a dainty heart placed in a hand, both detachable. I almost sprang for a circular rose carving with a Mexican chocolate scent--but it was $34. I didn't love it that much, but almost.

I asked about the cleaning process and was told it was very gentle and they took extra special care. When I picked it up, my comforter had my last name written in big bold black permanent ink all over the comforter tags. When I asked why? The owner was hesitant and finally told me that all of the comforters are "washed" together and they have to have a way to identify each comforter. If I had known the comforters were washable and all washed together, I would have never left my comforter. No thank you, I do not want my comforter washed with other peoples comforters - I won't be back and I feel my comforter has been ruined, and I paid the owner money to ruin it for me.
