Had a quick couple beverages at Clouds Brewing. I'd call it a cool, bright sports bar with a lot of TVs to catch games, some arcade-type games and what I'd call pub grub. The service was friendly on a somewhat slower mid-afternoon. The mushroom appetizers were amazingly good: made fresh in the kitchen, you could tell. First time at Clouds Brewing in Durham. The beer and food were delicious! We came for brunch on a Saturday and were immediately excited about the menu selection. So many great choices of beer and food to choose from. After finally choosing I went with the chicken and waffles with hot honey. The chicken was perfectly cooked. Clouds has changed from my previous visits. Most of the changes have been positive. They now have the taps only behind the bar and don't have the little wrist tags that you could use to get tastes or half pours of their beers. Their menu is now less German-oriented foods, but those influences are still there. I arrived right after opening to get ready for a large group coming at 12:30. Susan helped me arrange a table that could accommodate everyone. Since I had told her this was a meetup group, she asked if it was separate checks. She then set her ordering handheld for that and entered the seat numbers, ready for the onslaught. For a first meeting, we did OK. 12 out of 13 folks who signed up. The inside, like the rest of the buildings in Brightleaf Square, is refurbished tobacco warehouse. High ceilings, heavy oak beams, and old brick walls. Beautiful. The food was great! I visited before a concert, it was on a whim, but I was turned off by some of the other establishments in downtown Durham. I got the chicken schnitzel, which was just half a breast of fried chicken. Pretty solid, but nothing too memorable. I liked the German potato salad on the side. The other accompaniment was a large scoop of sauerkraut. That was ok, but I think about half of it before I needed a break. Prices were pretty reasonable, but these were not the largest portions I'd ever seen. Yum! Great spot. We came for the Super Bowl and it was very lovely and fun in there. They had a Sunday special that was 15 dollars which we split, which was a good deal and fun! This place is gross. The bathroom was the filthiest I have ever seen in a dining establishment and the food looked and tasted like it was put up by people who did not care in the least. This was a nice find for us. They have a decent selection of craft beer which includes several from the NC area. We enjoyed the Bull Durham Kolsch and the Clouds Brewing Pilsner. The seating area includes indoor and outdoor. The indoor area is quite large with multiple large tvs to watch games, etc. The menu is quite diverse... there are burgers but there was also a burito bowl which had some spice to it. There were also wraps, london broil, chicken pesto sandwich, pasta bowl with sausage and some other German based dishes. The only issue with this location is it is all street parking and it is kind of tucked into a pedestrian mall. So you need to park on a street or in a lot and walk to it... Not a huge deal but a little confusing to find the first time. Definitely a cool place and hope to get back! read more

This brew pub is located in the cool little Brightleaf Square neighborhood of Durham. The staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive. I had a great Mango Weisse hefeweizen beer. But it was the quality of the food coupled with the reasonable prices that really blew me away. I selected this place because of their German-inspired cuisine, and it was definitely inspiring and very tasty! I had the chicken schnitzel. Great breading that was cooked to crispy perfection without being at all overdone. The schnitzel was served with one of the best sauerkrauts I've had in ages and topped with a fantastic lemon garlic glaze. The dish is usually served with warm German potato salad, but I don't eat pork bacon so they substituted mashed potatoes that were incredible -- creamy and interlaced with herbs. Each fork full of chicken, sauerkraut and potatoes when eaten together was ausgezeichnet as they say in German. My husband had the Dirty Heaven brisket sandwich, which was fortunately heavenly rather than dirty. The brisket was cooked just right and the cilantro lemon sour cream paired very well with it. I would highly recommend this place and we'll definitely come back next time we are in Durham. read more

The service was great, but the food definitely fell short I've heard good reviews on the Raliegh location (I'm guessing they are affiliated) and decided to check it out. It was okay. I had the vegan burger and sweet potato fries. The burger was good, and the sweet potato fries were almost too crunchy but decent enough to eat. The side salad was not the best I've had, and for that reason, I could barely finish eating it. My friend did not enjoy the Tacos. I tasted it myself, and I agreed that it did taste like a beef vegetable soup. I'm not sure if this is something simmering and prepared earlier, but it was not appetizing. They did allow her to switch it out for another entree, and we appreciated that. Unfortunately, I will not eat here again, and I would not recommend Clouds food to anyone. read more

This was a great place in Durham to grab a bite to eat and sit down on a hot day for a drink! We came in around 11am on a Saturday and were able to find parking very quickly (dedicated parking lot for the area) and were seated immediately. I got the sucker punch gose, prickly pear flavor, and it was almost more sour than the coconut lime sour that my fiancée got (both of which were great). For food, we got the Hawaiian burger and the barbacoa short rib sandwich, both of which were great, but the sweet potato fries were the standout of the meal. The ambience is nice, with seating both in and outside, and definitely family friendly (there were lots of families with young kids around). They also have TVs with sports, if you're into that, and a specialty brunch menu. All in all, we had a good time and some very flavorful libations! read more

I got a beer flight this time so I could try different beers. It took a very long time for it to come out (came out the same time as our food). Tried the amazeballs for the first time and I liked those a lot! I wish they still had one of their pastas I used to enjoy a lot in the pre-pandemic days. I can't remember what is was called but it had artichokes, sun dried tomatoes and spinach. I ordered shrimp scampi and the lemon butter sauce was good but the shredded cheese on top wasn't necessary as it never melted. They have street parking behind Clouds on Peabody st. There's also street parking on Main St. There's a parking lot next to Brightleaf square but I'm not sure if you can still park there or not. A few years ago, I would park there and I would bring my ticket into Clouds and they would validate it so parking would be free. read more

We stayed outdoors since we had the dog with us and were surprised by how attentive service was, especially since we were the only ones out there for a while. The flights of 4 were perfect, tons of great sours for me. We didn't plan on eating much but the amazeballs and stuffed mushrooms were so good that we ordered a blackened salmon salad (well cooked piece of salmon) and a veggie quesadilla. They accidentally made a chicken quesadilla but were so quick to fix it. Brightleaf is a cute area, so great place for some casual drinks. read more

The food was very good, and the atmosphere was nice (and pretty quiet). The giant pretzel is in fact a giant pretzel, and the beer cheese dip is quite good. Both burgers were very filling, and cooked to perfection. I don't like raw onions, and they had no issue offing caramelized onions as a substitution. The service was a bit on the slow side. Our server didn't have too many guests (there were very few people there at the time), and it took a little longer than expected to place our order, or to order additional drinks. Even with the slower service, this has moved up our list of places to go when we're looking for a night out, and this was just our first visit. I've been to the Raleigh location but not this one. I finally had a chance to stop into this location. I enjoyed this one a lot more due to the space. It's a huge space with plenty of seating all around. I stopped in around 6:00 p.m. to catch a game and it filled up by 7:00 p.m. but still with plenty of seats open. There are televisions all around, every corner! There's not a bad seat in the house unless you're in the bathroom. Where do I start? THE FOOD: definitely don't expect top notch food. It's bar food! Jumbo chicken wings: If you're not a fan of spicy, I wouldn't recommend the hot. It was enough heat for me but I figure it would be more of a traditional buffalo sauce. It was actually more of a paprika hot sauce. It's enough for 2-3. A bit too much for me. I had like 3-4 left over. Calamari: Well-battered and fried! I was impress. It was good calamari but not the best I've had. This is enough for 2 people to share. For the $12 price point, I expected more calamari. It was mixed in with pieces of jalapeño. Fries: A nice crisp but wished it was warmer. THE BEER: A great selection! Raspberry Gose: Delicious with a blend of saltiness, sweetness, and tart. Banana Lager: Nice hint of banana. This review is for a group networking event and not for sit-down service. I went on a weekday night to meet up with some professional colleagues. As part of our package, we got a drink ticket and an array of appetizers. I enjoyed my stout and the food was very tasty (pretzel bites, sausage, wings, flatbread pizza, stuffed mushrooms, and nachos). We had a lot of food for our group and the staff was friendly enough to give us take-home boxes so they wouldn't have to throw anything away. One of them even took a group photo for us. So let me start off by saying, the service here is pretty good. The waitress was on top of it, to the point where it was actually a bit funny how often she checked in on our party. Not much, if anything at all, to complain about their. My downside was really the food. I really wanted to enjoy my meal, but it was just bleh, for lack of a better word. The omelette was manageable and the steak inside was really the saving grace. The hash browns are a texture I've never experienced with hash browns, and it was not well seasoned or cooked to my liking. The grits weren't horrible but borderline salty. Others in my party did like their meal, as apparently the grits is better in the shrimp and grits sauce. I'd also recommend the chicken and waffle (I wish I didn't switch my order from that). We were greeted quickly by a friendly hostess whom I asked if we could be seated near a TV playing our game. She took us to our table and then changed the channel to our game. Yes, they have the Sunday Ticket so all games are available. It is a brewery, so I did what one does, ordered a beer and a GIANT Pretzel. Not just any beer, the Rum Potato Two Potato, Rum Barrel-Aged Porter Brewed with Local Sweet Potatoes. Yum! The Giant Pretzel, as it's called was perfect. Too hot to eat, slight crunch on the outside with a soft, chewy center. Served with classic mustard and beer cheese. My daughter had the French Toast, adding bacon of course. She said it was the best she ever had, especially loving the caramel sauce. I had the Dirty Heaven. The short rib was on point but the star was the short rib consommé, money! First of all...the short rib nachos. Esthetically pleasing and the meat was delicious. I had the old-fashioned that was a specialty and it was worth the $12. Really liked the blood-red orange in it. The jalapeño peppers were good and I liked that the bar bites were half off before six, making it only $3. Secondly, we had a huge party and the brewery gave us a private room. The wait staff were excellent, prompt, and with a great sense of humor. Thirdly, I really liked the atmosphere and the variety of food and drinks. Came on a busy Thursday Trivia night. The parking is not great, but I was able to find a spot on the street. The restaurant location is tucked on this strip of cozy shops. The service was amazing and attentive, but the food was only good (not great) to me. The calamari could have been fried a lot longer so it wasn't soggy and the caesar salad could have had more lettuce and dressing. The Dirty Heaven sandwich was tasty and filling with it being loaded with meat, but I would have preferred a thicker short rib consomme so it was easier to dip the sandwich into.
