Smothered and covered

I'd give this place more of a 3.6 but since that's not an option, I rounded up to 4. The biscuit, sausage and gravy were objectively pretty good but seemed to lack "je ne sais quoi" and dimension in flavor... so not my favorite. The chicken and waffle skewers were pretty good though! Good flavor. Very friendly waitress.

Came here last night and what a wonderful experience. Was in town for the Duke lacrosse game and stayed the weekend. Party of three started out with the frickles and a crab dip. Both were warm and flavorful. We had an abundance of pita bread to dip in the crap dip. The sauce with the frickles was fantastic. I ordered the Dr Pepper wings as my entree and they were fall of the bone tender. Something so different about smoked wings versus fried. I washed everything down with a Bull Durham beer and it was flavorful and a perfect pour. Parents got the smoked chicken and shrimp and grits. See the attached photos.

Having had a stellar brunch here before, Husband picked it for his birthday celebration dinner. We made 5:00 Saturday reservations (they open at five, but it doesn't hurt to have reservations). We were seated right away. For drinks, he chose RyeWhiskyDon'tLetMeDown, and for $14 it very much let him down. It was four small sips, the rest was a giant cube of ice. My None of Your Fig-ness was interesting. At first it was too sweet, but then I realized I just needed to stir it. Fine after that. For food He got the Hamburger Steak. I chose the Half Chicken but substituted collards and mashed potatoes for the other sides. Love that you can do that. When the food arrived it looked absolutely fantastic. We both dived right in. Potatoes and Collards, check! Delicious! His Hamburger Steak came with a very flavorful sherry onion gravy. He was happy with his potatoes and green beans. But sadly, my chicken was cold. As in, just came from the fridge cold. And so was the bbq sauce on the side. They both tasted good, but were just cold. I kinda wish I didn't ask about it cause, when she said that was not the way it was supposed to be, she took it back to the kitchen, and when it came back to me, they had fried it to death. All I could taste was oil, and it was overcooked. But hey, it wasn't cold anymore. If I could have had it the way it originally came out but warm, it would have been perfect.

I drove into town for the Chris Brown concert, and after checking into the hotel, this spot was recommended for a quick bite. We arrived right when they opened, so it was nice and quiet -- perfect for a relaxed start. The food was absolutely amazing. I'd definitely recommend giving this place a try!

Stopped by for a meal, and overall, the food was good--solid Southern comfort fare--but it could've used a little more flavor to really stand out. Everything was cooked well, just missing that extra seasoning or boldness to take it up a notch. One downside? No espresso drinks. For a spot like this, having a good coffee option would've been a nice touch, especially with brunch-style dishes. A latte or even just a solid cappuccino would've rounded out the meal perfectly. Service was friendly, and the atmosphere was welcoming, but I'd love to see them step up both the flavors and the coffee game!

Pete-Loaf tasted like Salisbury steak and was burned Dirty, partially cooked Roasted Potatoes and rubbery Crispy Brussels

We stopped by for dinner and ordered the "Pete-loaf" and the fried pork chop with sweet tea. There were no issues with the service but the Pete loaf meal was horrible. The potatoes tasted like they hadn't been washed and were partially cooked. There was no seasoning. The sprouts tasted like rubber. The meat loaf tasted like a burned Salisbury steak. I was unable to eat it and ended up sending it all back. It was the worst meal I've had in a long time. The pork chop meal was a 2/10. It was dry and bland. The tea was bitter. We ended up going to a different restaurant because I was starving.

Awesome kitchen setup. Open aire for all to behold the magic that happens within. Great taste

Amazing place and amazing food, as usual. Staff are always happy to accommodate you in every way. Really cool setting and various forms of seating accommodations.

Second time here and prefer the ambiance at this location to the smaller Durham one. I enjoy the larger space, music, ambiance and crowd. Decor is also nice. Food is consistent and good at both. I've ordered the shrimp and grits and the chicken and waffle skewers. Both were great! I went with people who had dietary restrictions and they don't really have alternatives or non meat option. Service was good. Servers were friendly, attentive and accommodating.

Cajun Salmon Cake Bene

Came here early Sunday morning and probably one of the best decisions I've made in a while. Walked in and our server, Jesse Jarvis- what an angel, someone needs to give him a raise. He was super kind and had such a great energy early in the morning and never failed to make sure we had everything we needed. Again, give him a raise! He's great. Ambiance is wonderful, this was the first time I was here- you walk in and it just feels so homey. A great ambiance whether to celebrate a friend's birthday (like I was this morning), group hang outs, could see myself having brunch here with the girls, or even here for a date. I got the Cajun salmon cake bene- it came with a side of potatoes and fruit and it was so delicious. I'm a potato fein, and they were the perfect outside crispy and inside soft. Egg was poached perfectly, loved the flavor of the salmon cake but wanted to taste a bit more of the Cajun. The fresh veggies (spinach and bell pepper I believe) made it well-balanced. Would totally come back again :) and make sure y'all tell Jesse I said hi too.

This was our first time in. They sat us right away. We ordered the Brussel sprouts to start then the pulled pork dinner was very very good. The Arnold Palmer was excellent. We will be back for sure.

In town for the Duke daughter's Parents Weekend...Sunday brunch? Why not go to a restaurant with such a .... different name? Very fun vibe. Bustling crowd, NFL games on the multiple TVs, waitresses running around with big pitchers of mimosa... We got a Fat Kid sandwich which is such a politically incorrect name and yet worth ordering! We also grabbed the garden omelette, with bacon on the side. The portions are really generous. I only regret eyeballing the food on the next table, someone ordered the 1 pound of chicken wings with collard greens. I nearly begged them to allow me to try one, but I did not want someone to put a fork in my hand. Which I would've done to me. We shall return!

Which parking deck downtown Durham is close to the restaurant?

I'm not to familiar with Durham, but parking is not convenient at all. We parked behind the restaurant near the apartments. That was the only space we could find. I didn't see any parking decks close by.

How are the prices?

Not cheap, not too expensive....but honestly you get what you pay for. Portions are generous and each item is unique and delicious!

Do they do private dining?

Yes, they have an awesome private dining area with a lot of space

Our waitress came over and was so pleasant and extremely knowledgeable. I cannot wait to bring my uncle back to enjoy some new bourbons. I started with a Wake Up Holland and my aunt had a chocolate martini (not on the menu but the bartender understood the assignment!) Wake Up Holland is 100% worth the hype. I LOVED IT. But since I was worried about the caffiene, I tried The Smoking Jacket next. It wasn't really my favorite...it tasted like a campfire which I know some people enjoy but it wasn't my jam. The waitress was very astute and mentioned that they could make the Wake Up Holland in decaf and I rejoiced!!! And ended the evening with that. The service, ambiance, and drinks were all stellar and I cannot wait to return to this establishment!

We've been to Aaktun in Durham multiple times for both breakfast and dinner, and it's honestly become one of our favorite spots. I'm Peruvian and grew up with Peruvian cuisine, so seeing lomo saltado -- a classic Peruvian dish -- on the menu immediately made me happy. Having also grown up in Mexico and lived in places like Miami, I really appreciate what they're doing with the menu: a modern, delicious take on Latin flavors that feels creative without losing what makes those cuisines special. The atmosphere is absolutely beautiful. You walk in thinking it's a stylish little coffee shop, then head toward the back and the whole place opens up -- gorgeous bar, tropical touches, cozy alcove seating, really cool vibe. One time we went with friends for a special dining experience they were offering, and it was excellent. The food, drinks, and whole experience were made even better by Fernando, the manager, who has always been incredibly warm, helpful, and accommodating. Highly recommend Aaktun for breakfast or dinner. Still haven't made it there for lunch somehow, but at this point we'd be shocked if it wasn't great too.

"Part Dos - Mostly great, with a few exceptions"…read more Food temp is major in my book. While many of the food options were hot, several were not, and I believe that impacted the overall dining experience. We ordered classic breakfast and jerk chicken lunch options. For drinks: Cappuccino and Mango Refreshers. The good: (1) Fried rice - which accompanied the jerk chicken (served hot). While simple, the slightly earthy and bitter (in the best way possible) from the braised/steamed baby bok choy perfectly accompanied the earthy mushroom, and complex soy inspired fried rice. So good - this could be a vegan or meat side entree unto itself - IMO. (2) Scrambled Eggs - If you enjoy large curds of gently scrambled eggs - this is for you. While we enjoyed the remaining options for portion size and flavor, we did note that the temperature was cool to mid - which impacted overall flavor. Jerk Chicken: we understand this is a jerk inspired interpretation. With that being said, the most interesting flavor was limited to the crispy skin. Perhaps the chicken was immersed in a salt brine and basted with a jerk flavoring? We loved the white (perhaps mayo based sauce), and accompanied pickled red onion. But baby, the food temp. Yucca fries - if you're unfamiliar - are the baby of a green plantain and white potatoes. While good, they were not hot. Maybe could have benefited from a unique sauce? Food service good. But the biggest miss was the cheese hash browns and Mango Refresher. Hash brown (cheese) room temp, and tough - Mango Refresher - too tart and not worth the cost. As far as ambience: Customers were Hip, sexy, multi ethnic , and included old and young. We loved our waiter. Overall, a little disappointing especially considering we loved our first coffee breakfast visit so much. Not sure if it was an off day or we just prefer other menu options. However, we'd definitely visit again! Brunch/lunch: 4.2
