The community is amazing, and it's always such a blast. Pro-tip, there's a cash cover at the door but a 711 literally steps away just in case you're like me and never carry cash :) There's a parking lot adjacent. Quick service, friendly staff, plenty of seating in case you don't want to hit the dance floor or want a sip break, and themed events/nights/cocktails. The only negative was the bartender rudely and incorrectly gave me the wrong drink twice. What an absolutely special place in Walnut Creek (and the county). Bartenders always know how to have a good time, even on the chill nights, and I've never once walked out of there without having had a great chat with someone. Came here for an event my friends were hosting, and overall I had a great time! But I've got two major complaints I've gotta get off my chest. First, let's start with the good stuff. The bar itself is super nice! We missed the drag show (bummer), but everyone who caught it said it was a blast. There were TVs playing games, plenty of seating, and a big open dance floor which definitely added to the fun vibe. Drinks were delicious and the bartenders were friendly. one of them even doubled as the MC and was hilarious. One thing I really appreciated was the self-serve water station. I drink a ton of water, and it's such a hassle trying to get the bartender's attention just for that, so this was a win for both guests and staff. Now... here are my two gripes: A bar that size with only one toilet in the women's restroom? Rough. The line got ridiculous. The music volume was insanely loud. I get it, it's a bar, loud music is expected. But this was next level. You couldn't even have a conversation without yelling, and several people in our group mentioned it, so I know it wasn't just me. Since this place isnt really close to home, I probably wont be back. Came here for the first time for their pole show and it was nothing short of amazing. Me and my girlfriend enjoyed a couple mocktails and were amazed by how good they are. I am not a big Yelp reviewer but this is overdue so get a coffee or go to Club 1220 to enjoy an espresso Martini. I have been going to Club 1220 since I was 18. Don't worry about It, I got kicked out during a Lady Gaga Tribute night! I'm 32 now and the 21+ gays and staff will not let this happen because this is a scared space for the LGBTQIA+ Community in Contra Costa. Back to my review: Throughout my youth I was able to be mentored by the local leaders and gays of the area. I actually didn't start drinking until 22. Shocking right? Through time and experience, i learned the importance of nonprofit services, fundraisers and advocacy for LGBTQIA+ services. I also started becoming involved with Rainbow Community Center, our local nonprofit organization in CoCo County. Once I saw the art and meaning of philanthropic work that this club offered. I was able to become a community leader and a drag queen activist. Thanks to Club 1220 and its previous and current owners. I was able to host fundraisers that raised thousands of dollars for youth, people living with HIV, seniors and immigrants. And a yearly World AIDS Day. We got creative with these events. We partnered and hosted car washes, drag brunches, talent shows, speed dating and I even got the opportunity to interview Ongina, the drag super star from Rupaul's Drag Race. During the pandemic we were able to partner with Contra Costa health to provide hundreds of MPOX and Covid vaccines when these were not as available. We supported folks in Contra Costa, Alameda, Solano and San Francisco counties. On a personal note, I have had many birthday parties, hangouts, dates, relationships and breakups. An eyelash collection launch party (where my mom and sister went to a queer bar for the very first time). Or even enjoying a drink alone after work. All of this to say, Club 1220 has created many memories for many of us. Whether it is as a youth, as a gay, as a professional or as a community member. Thank you Holotta for continuing to lead and keeping this space open for our community. - If you are still reading, please continue to show up, invite your friends and join all the celebrations and activities. I found this place by mistake. I had a birthday group looking for a karaoke night and found that drag bingo was happening here on the same night we were around in the area. None of us had ever done drag bingo but it's on our list of things to do, so I reserved a big table for us. They have parking in the back but we got lucky and got there early enough to find princess parking. It's a bar with the most fabulous vibes. When we found out it was gay owned and gay operated, we were even more juiced to support and come back to support the LGBTQ+ community. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, the queens, the bar tender, the moms, the drunks, EVERYONE, was the nicest and sweetest and most amazing people to be around. We were laughing and enjoying the show and the company the entire night. Holotta (the owner) and Miss CharityKase made such a great duo and had the most amazing performance and banter with not only each other but the audience as well. Even the most uncomfortable people melt under their charm eventually. They got us convinced to come back and we were just discussing as a group how we found our new bar spot. 10/10 would recommend to come in and relax and have fun. Get made fun of and have some drinks, sing along and have some more drinks. Things have gone considerably downhill since I wrote this original review, and it's all due to the same terrible DJ. Looks to be a 50-something, salt-n-pepper haired white guy. It's a shame, he's really dragging 1220 down, given how often it comes up in reviews. Every few months my friends and I come to 1220 for a chance to still hit a gay bar without going into SF. Each instance, when we arrive the music is loud, but it's still possible to carry on a conversation. There's no one dancing, but people are relaxing, drinking, and talking. Then every 20-30 min the DJ turns up the volume until eventually it's unbearably loud and completely impossible to hear anyone. Keep in mind, no one is dancing. Sometimes the DJ will even heckle the crowd that they should dance. When that garners no response, the volume will increase further. The past 4-5 times we've gone, including tonight, the volume became so loud that it was easier to leave than to shout over it. 1220 would be a great place if the DJ didn't make it entirely unwelcoming, and undesirable to hang out. I'd like to go to the events they post about, but I'm unwilling to take the chance that the DJ will simply ruin it. I'll likely wait several months till I give 1220 another chance, or until I see an Instagram post that they've finally fired their DJ. read more

I've come here twice. The bartenders are friendly and the bar is nice. I don't get out much but the first time I came here it was dead empty. The bartender said Fridays and Saturdays are more lively and they have dancing. My second time I came on a Saturday. It was only gay men. Literally not one single woman. I've only been to larger scale drag shows so I was unsure on what to expect. However, I was pleasantly surprised! The host was engaging and hilarious and the QUEENS were a 10/10! Loved that they gave us a little history about the bar and the importance it has within the community to have these safe spaces. I've been here multiple times after finding this spot on accident for Concord Pride afters, and it's safe to say this is one of the best bars in Walnut Creek. There's a lot of history behind the space, and the people there are fun and chill. I also love that this is the only spot in the area that has affordable drinks like back east. They even have harder to find stuff like Fernet and absinthe for reasonable prices, so you can save yourself a trip to the city. We LOVE inclusive bars! I'm sad Club 1220 isn't closer to me because I would definitely frequent this spot. Found this spot on Yelp while I was exploring Walnut Creek. There was a $10 cash only cover at the door...like why is this still a thing. Who carries cash? Like can I Venmo you? So we were instructed to walk over to the 7/11 next door to get some money from the ATM. lol The drinks are stiff, velvet decor is a vibe, the neon/disco lights are so fun and the music is bangin. It was a slow Friday night. Maybe a few people at the bar and dancing. Still so fun, not too loud that you couldn't talk over but not too quiet where it gets all awkward. Plenty of seating, ample parking, and I hear House of Sake will deliver food over from next door. This spot is a win. read more

This review is purely for the horrible DJ last night (3/8). The night started with hip hop and the dance floor was packed. He then played reggaeton. And then 80's music. And then one punk rock song. And then back to 80's music. All within 30 - 40 minutes. As the dance floor got emptier and emptier, he starts playing the Macarena. Talk about putting a nail in the coffin. I hate to bash on the only gay establishment with a dance floor in Walnut Creek but the DJ clearly doesn't know how to keep people on the dance floor. It's a cute little area, a little dated decoration and honestly not a whole lot of seating. I came on a friday night to celebrate my birthday and the hostess at the front was so sweet! The price or the drinks are what you'd expect for a walnut creek area, a bit on the cheaper side. I had an espresso martini, which was alright but the first one of the two i had was super strong and a good four shades darker we than the second one i had. I also ordered this Lanvander Lemondrop and my god that was amazing. The crowd that comes here is definitely a older group, my friend and i we're definitely the youngest there (mid to late 20s) and for sure agreed on some of the questionable song choices from "die with a smile" to suddenly go to "not like us" for sure not the vibe .. There is only one pool table which we went for expecting more than just one. Overall it was just okay. Great local bar! Found out about this place on social media. I saw that they had a Drag Queen Bingo night so I came here a couple of months ago with some friends. For only $10 you get 12 Bingo cards and they play 8 rounds. We were lucky that all 3 of us won that night! They have a lot of great prizes! We won a game night set of several board games, spa kit and a purse! House of Sake is next door and they serve their food. You just have to call in your order and the restaurant is nice enough to deliver it to you at Club 1220 for Bingo night. I got an order of the crab rangoons which was really good. We ended up having a blast that we came back again about a week later on a Saturday night for some dancing. Parking is super easy, it's in the same lot as the 7-Eleven. Since I came out, I've been coming to this bar and I have to tell you the staff here the shows the atmosphere the music it's absolutely stunning. I absolutely love it.. The shows are incredible. The drag performances are incredible. Went to 1220 for the first time in a long time last night which was a Friday around midnight and let me tell you DJ Ellis sure knows how to clear a dance floor!! He played an awful selection of music and his transitions from song to song was rough, people would literally stop dancing because we had to wait for the next song to play and he refused to take any music requests that my party knew would get people back on the dance floor. The floor was really sticky even the dance floor. The security guard was rude and just looked like he was in a bad mood. The host in the front was more into his poker game on his phone then interacting with us when we walked in, he wasn't very inviting but he didn't mind taking our money, $8 cover charge was not worth it. This used to be my favorite place and now it's my least favorite, I'll never go back!! read more
