If you're going to @retrojunky to watch a Mexican soccer match I wouldn't recommend asking the DJ to play La Chona. I politely asked a simple song request and the DJ became unnecessarily, rude and aggressive, put our hands on us and completely changed the atmosphere and made me feel uncomfortable. The game was great the crowd was fun and the drinks were good, but because of the experience, it will probably be my last time coming here. I also noticed the same DJ was there during salsa night. Terrible night, terrible dj

Looking for a cool spot on a Tuesday night? Retro Junkie is the place to be. I visited for the first time and can't wait to come back again when in the area. They have salsa lessons on Tuesdays, which was so fun! It's good for all dance levels. It only costed $10 for the lesson which was a hour long. The instructor was amazing and so kind with everyone. After the lesson, it's an open dance floor for several hours. It was a wide range of ages and dancers. The drinks were also good, just wished they had happy hour on Tuesdays. The bartender was super nice and made us great drinks!

Further update on my review the business owner Karen does not believe that the customer is always right. Based upon the footage that is on my camera you can clearly see that my friend got the okay to wear his hat inside your establishment. Instead we were kicked out and lost our $120 dollars. Please run your business better.

My favorite place to time travel in the east bay. Any 70s 80s or 90s child will see something on the wall and say out loud "omg that's amazing". Last night mine was the hidden in plain sight karate kid corner. The owners and staff are always kind and quick with showing everyone a good time. Shows are top tier and if you can get in on the George Michael tribute...do it. He always packs the place and his look, moves and voice are spot on. Thank you Retro Junkie for another wonderful night!

Trivia had oddly hard questions, probably more geared towards their regulars. The karaoke was very fun and the bartender was amazing.

Retro Junkie Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Retro Junkie

    Dress code? Beanies hats allowed?

Casual 🤷🏻‍♀️ seen lots of different styles including hats and beanies.

Considering attending one of the shows, from the description one band plays outside in the beer garden while the other is inside? I prefer to be outside so trying to decide which band I'd see.

With the opening of the beer garden, on Fridays and Saturdays the outside band plays earlier and the inside band later. Technically 2 separate admissions.

    Typical age range of guests?

It can vary a bit depending on the night but 20s through 50s, it's a very welcoming place for all.

    Is there a cover charge?

No, unless they have some special event.

After the outdoor concert, is there a DJ playing music outside or just inside?

Generally only inside, but there is ambient music outside. Last year during warm months, there was an outdoor DJ as well.

Do you guys have a trivia night?

    They do, every Wednesday!

Its my Birthday on Friday I would love to bring my family with me to see the band play can I bring with my 19yr old son to watch the band? Vasco Road 80/90 cover already purchased the tickets as well

The venue should be for all ages due to they do not only serve alcohol they also serve food and I hope they have Root Beer and Non Alcoholic Drinks and a kids menu. Am I right?

Perhaps a stupid question here given my almost no experience in a bar...but are non-alcoholic cocktails available? I only saw their menu with like water and Red Bull and a non-alcoholic beer but I tend to favor fruity drinks.

They don't have a mocktail-specific menu but the bartenders are great, they can make any cocktail virgin by request.

Does anyone know what the VIP table includes during the concerts?

The VIP table packages are different depending on availability and location of table. Usually tables come w min bar tab spend, you own personal cocktail server, vip bands for you and your guests!

Is there a Salsa Dancing night?

    Tuesdays!

Are children allowed for the Sunday brunch days?

    My guess would be no

    Are dogs allowed outside seating?

Yes, the beer garden is a pet friendly area. Inside, we only allow service animals.

How old do you have to be to work here?

    21+

Hi, is this an 18 & over place or 21 & over?

Since its an environment where were serve alcohol, you must be 21+

What's the check in offer for? It says "one free buy one get one?"

Show your bartender the check-in or that you've checked in through yelp and They will give you a buy one get one beer make sure you Are with the bartender before you check in through yelp

    Is this 18+?

    I think 21+ but not 100% sure

    Is there a cover charge?

    After 8pm. It was $10

Are there seats available or is it just for bottle service? Any they near the band/ stage?

Plenty of seating outside of VIP and yes some are close to the stage.

For the appetizer, we had the halloumi and shrimp dishes, plus the hamachi and poke tostadas. All of them were great! My personal favorite was the shrimp and the poke tostada. For entrees, we got the lamp chops, shrimp shishito risotto, and braised chicken. All three were great, the shrimp risotto was my favorite - absolutely delicious. The scalloped potatoes that come with the lamp chops are also incredible. The braised chicken is a very generous portion and enough to share, also tasty. We also got the cucumber salad and creamy chickpeas as our sides, our group loved both. Our last appetizer was the pita and hummus, which was heavenly and so fresh. For dessert, we got the tiramisu, halva chocolate cake, and baklava. Our group loved the tiramisu a lot. I am not a tiramisu girl, but I loved it. The service was also wonderful! Diana was our server and she was really sweet and attentive. She gave us a lot of great recommendations and was so helpful as we made our choices off the menu. Highly recommend if you're looking for a new twist on Mediterranean food with great ambience and service. We can't wait to come back!

Food and their respective rating: 5/5 Hamachi Tostada: amazing, i may dream about it because of how delicious it was. Loved the fresh ingredients and how the tostada kept its structure each bite. 3/5 Grilled Filet Skewers: good, but, would I get it again? Maybe not unless I were to share it with someone.. It was pretty heavy for me. 4/5 Tiramisu: very good, but also again I was full. But i loved the texture and the fact that it didn't taste like your average tiramisu. The nuts brought great texture, there was definitely hints of liquor in there as well. I would order again & share with a friend Service: Lastly our waitress was great! I really enjoyed their pizza dishes- the crust is fresh, fluffy, yet perfectly crispy. the toppings weren't too complicated- it was just delicious, simple food. I would also say that the price points weren't too bad at all- the food and the prices were pretty aligned. I enjoyed the atmosphere, and decor, however I wasn't a fan of how they played nightclub/dancing music- which made it all that much louder and difficult to talk. I will also say that the service was very good- considering that it was very crowded at the time, however I had an odd experience with a hostess. I made a reservation in advance to celebrate my mom's birthday- when my family arrived, we were quite literally ignored by the hostess for about 10 minutes. She looked at us, and said "I will be right with you", only to come back 7 more times and ignore us again. She then made us wait 20 minutes into our reservation because another table wasn't finished with their meal. I initially didn't think anything of it (after all, it was a busy night)- until another group of white women who had made a reservation were immediately attended to by this hostess, and were given a table at a significantly better lit area. My indian family was made to sit at the corner of the restaurant, by the bathrooms. However I want to keep in mind that maybe it was a bad day, and the rest of the staff were very polite to us.

Fantastic drink. My friend tasted mine and ordered the same. The selection is the draw here. Whiskey lines the entire back wall, the rarer bottles sit behind wire-mesh locked cabinets, and there is a deep bench of tequila, beer on tap, and wine to round things out. One look at the shelves tells you they have the base for any drink you want. We split the Margherita flatbread, pesto, fresh mozzarella, and blistered cherry tomatoes, and it hit the spot as a drinking snack. The menu goes deeper than expected for a bar, with sliders, naan tacos, and charcuterie if you show up hungry. Service was good considering the staff-to-crowd ratio. Sevan stayed attentive the whole time and clearly knows his stuff. The vibe is chill and conversation-friendly, not too loud for the size of the room, with a bank of TVs toward the back if you want to catch a game. Logistics are easy.
