It used…read moreto be an old house right on the trail that they converted into a Pilates studio, as well as an event center. It is located right behind the restaurant called Bishops Quarter. I do follow this Pilates studio on social media, as I am a fan of all of the local businesses in my hometown; however, I had not been before today! I noticed online that they were offering a free intro class to the reformer this afternoon. I believe they created this class with the intention of making the community aware of what they were teaching--and for a teacher that had the availability of an impromptu class at noon on a Monday, it was perfect! This class was a small, almost one on one type class where there were three of us with one teacher. It was on the reformer, and the teacher taught how to correctly place your body on the reformer, as well as some specific moves we would do in future classes. I had a blast, and it really worked my muscles! The teacher said to look online for the current deal. She thought you could get 10 classes for about $186. I need to look at the schedule to see if it fits once I'm back to a full-time job in the fall (Summer schedules are great for us teachers!), but overall, I really enjoyed my experience! The studio does use the Mind Body app, so you make all of your reservations online and pay for classes in advance.

This was the first Pilates session for most of us, and Tara efficiently and patiently described exercises. She made even the most difficult movements fun and manageable with detailed descriptions. She even went so fast as creating a custom playlist for our group. Tara has such great energy and it seemed like some of that transferred to all of us.

Instructions at the Mason studio are helpful and correcting is always done in a positive way. Their retail is open for anyone and they offer a cute selection of good workout gear. Most studios offer a first class free so you can try it out. They have a more cardio centric option, a strength option plus classic barre. This gives you the ability to vary your workout. Going to barre 3-4 times a week had me in the best shape of my life. Body weight, isometric and challenging but also able to modify for your ability and any health challenges. And don't let the name fool you, there are dedicated male clients too and barre is a great strength, flexibility workout. And one of my favorite things about Pure Barre is that everyone concentrates on themselves so you never feel like people are looking at or judging you.

As a mid-size woman, I am extremely comfortable in these classes. I was a little nervous going in that I would be on the bigger side there and expected 'ballerina bodies' being the predominant figure there - but there are women of all shapes, sizes, and ages! This is truly a welcoming environment for all and the instructors and fellow members are all very kind. The workout is definitely on the intense side but there are lots of modifications that you can do to make it easier or harder depending on your fitness level. I am already seeing a difference in my ability to keep going in the classes and I feel great after the class! There is great music and such a great vibe and if you're looking for a great workout studio - look no further than Pure Barre Mason!

Then I took the yin/restorative class. It was 44 degrees outside, and the studio had the AC running. The room stayed cold the entire 75-minute class. A student asked about turning up the heat and ultimately left early because of it. Multiple people used blankets just to stay warm. The instructor even acknowledged the temperature and suggested we use blankets to cover up--yet the AC continued running and nothing was adjusted. Restorative yoga is supposed to be relaxing and intentional. This felt like the opposite. If the goal was a cold yoga experience, it might be worth making that clear upfront.

Now that…read moreI've officially completed both (my burning quads can confirm), I can definitely recommend checking out this cute studio! The yoga class (VIN to YIN) I took earlier this week was with Marta - she was kind and helpful - offering several modifications for some of the harder movements throughout the practice. The class itself was mostly moms with a few men mixed in ... which can be a rarity sometimes in the yoga world. I left her class feeling relaxed and recharged. The workout class I took this morning (Full Body Fit) was with Andrea. She is exactly the kind of person you want leading your pilates/barre workout - lots of excited energy. This is a great way to start your morning ... 45 minutes of hard work, then you're already done with your workout for the day! I do feel this studio is lacking some class variety. I understand it may be difficult to fill classes coming out of the pandemic - but if you're looking to take an early morning class or even break up your workday with some yoga, you won't find those options here. I also wish there was a phone number listed somewhere so you could call with questions - the app and the website have very detailed information, but if you ever needed to call for any reason, there's no way to do that without getting your instructor's direct number. That said -- I do love that you can book classes directly through the app. They have a generous cancellation policy of three hours. If you don't have a mat to call your own, they have several ready for you to use.

I previously was very active in pilates mat & reformer, but another studio I went to closed and another I was going to you can never get into classes, I peeked my head in the door and Rachel the owner was there setting the space up. She welcomed me, told me about the studio, I saw they had a mat room, which I missed taking mat pilates classes. I went home reviewed their website, signed up for mat pilates and took my first classes this week. Rachel welcomed me for my first class on Monday, several of the students in the class also welcomed me, several of us talked after the class and they told me how much they loved Rachel and the studio. I went back for a second class yesterday and again was welcomed and more students raving about the studio, the mat pilates is hard, but just what I need to get back into shape. I'm looking forward to getting back into reformer classes too soon. Thank you Rachel and Prism Pilates team a refreshing fitness studio in Oakley.

To begin, you have to take an intro class first which was very helpful. I have taken two classes so far, both with Molly, and she has been so helpful and really pushes you! The classes are small (first one was 6 people, second was only 2) so they are small enough for individualized attention, which I prefer. I definitely recommend checking out the free intro class and then buying a package! Also, the plants and natural light in the space are great.

I wanted to share my experience because there are some ongoing issues that potential clients should…read morebe aware of. One challenge is accessibility. Classes often need to be scheduled weeks in advance just to get a spot, especially if you prefer evening classes. This makes it really difficult to stay consistent if your schedule changes/fluctuates often. Advertised class hours (6 AM-7 PM) are not accurate most of the time, which feels misleading. In the unfortunate event that an instructor cannot make a class, class will be canceled instead of covered. Even if there are instructors available and willing to cover the class. On top of that, instructors seem to be under constant pressure to bring in clients, and their schedules can be reduced if new enrollment is low. This creates a stressful environment that ultimately impacts both staff and clients. Management frequently asks for feedback, but unfortunately, nothing seems to come from it. The same concerns are brought up repeatedly over months with no visible improvements, which is frustrating as a paying client. Monthly memberships are far from cheap. There are also inconsistencies in the overall experience. Morning classes often lack basic support, like having a front desk person available, which raises concerns about both organization and security. Events and giveaways are a nice idea, but they tend to be geared toward evening clients, leaving morning attendees feeling very overlooked. I once hit 100 classes ( a huge milestone) and had to ASK to sign the board instead of being celebrated like evening class clients. While taking a 7AM class lead by management, comments were made like "i don't know why you guys get up this early and workout". Providing negativity rather than acknowledging the commitment and dedication. Instructor turnover is very high, which makes it hard to build relationships or maintain consistency in classes. It's disappointing, but not surprising given how staff appear to be treated. Overall, while the concept and workouts themselves can be great at times the managerment and operational issues make it hard to recommend. Don't waste your money here!
