I recently have started to search out yoga studios. I have pinpointed 3 of them to check out in…read moreparticular. Two are in DC and one is in Hyattsville, closer to where I live (in Cheverly). I attended Studio #1 last Saturday and loved it so much that I know I'll be attending that class and that teacher every Saturday (See my other reviews for my review of Yoga District....Wisconsin Avenue branch). Studio #2 I attended on Tuesday. It is the Hyattsville location---"Love Yoga". Initially I was a little thrown off to be honest with you. The teacher's style is 100% different from my first teacher at the other studio. I could tell that the first teacher (at Yoga District) has been practicing yoga for many moons now and that she is a master teacher. This teacher (Sherri) is happy-go-lucky and does not take herself too seriously. She goes with the flow, is funny and is a terrific teacher. I would not call her a master but she is good, and fun, and knowledgeable and challenging. She's hands on and is good at correcting postures. Right away she had us trying head stands, shoulder stands and a lot of other challenging poses. I broke a sweat for sure! The studio itself is eeny-weeny. There were 4 of us there, plus the teacher and that was plenty for comfort. However, I'm guessing that at least 8 can fit in there but it would be tight. Will I return? No. But it has nothing to do with the teacher or the space. It's just that the first teacher's style fits my personality to the absolute n'th degree. And so I'll be attending her class for as long as she teaches it. I have one more studio to visit and if I like that one, I'll have 2 studios to visit...but at least I have one for now. Do I recommend you attend the "Love Yoga" studio? ABSOLUTELY! I highly recommend you check it out. I have only been in Sherri's class so I cannot speak for the other teachers at that location. But Sherri is fun, hip, encouraging, and will work you into a sweat. Check it out!

Review of Pilates classes -…read more Thank goodness this place is here. Without it I would have continued my slide into flabbitude and be making regular trips to buy new pants and I hate shopping. At first, I wasn't crazy about it. Or rather my snoozing core muscles were like "Jules. Seriously, WTF? We're trying to sleep under this nice warm layer of doughnuts and beer you've draped over us." And neither teacher I've had there is inattentive, meaning you can't get away with slacking. Now I absolutely hate to miss this class (although I still think Herr Pilates was a sadist). The weekend schedule is convenient and it is near Yes! market so you can get a healthy snack after class.

Gretchen is an amazing instructor!!! You can tell she truly enjoys teaching yoga. Gretchen explains that Yoga isn't about posing and moving but more about self acceptance and self confidence. She is very encouraging, attentive, motivating and knowledgeable. Parking.... parking is easy to find and plentiful. I actually parked very close to the studio. The studio is located next to the credit union. Class.... I registered for a Thursday class which is the beginner classes. The beginner class was very small and intimate (maybe about 5 of us). I registered online and it was very user friendly. I did arrive a few mins late because I had no idea where to park. I was still greeted with a smile and warm welcome. During the class, Gretchen was very patient and went at a pace that was convenient for everyone. She constantly asked if we had any questions after learning something new. The class was an hour long but it went by so fast I hardly noticed. What to wear... I recommend wearing something comfortable. You will be doing a lot of bending so i would suggest something snug. I am so glad I found my new true love (yoga). Gretchen made the experience that much more enjoyable. I already booked more classes online!!!! Can't wait for my next visit.

With the consistent practice, I've noticed an improvement in my breathing during class. I'm starting to get a hang of flowing my breathing in with my movements. My sun salutations are starting to feel more like a flowing dance than a start and stop sequence of poses. I look forward to deepening my practice with all the yoga teachers and learning more about yoga philosophy. Mimi's Power Flow gives me so much LIFE!!! I've never sweated so much in my life, not even when I visit the sauna! When I'm in Mimi's class, I have no choice but to be present and stay present on my mat - because if I don't... I will get lost really fast. This might sound really intense, but for me, it's a form of mediation. I have trouble staying focus and present. My mind normally wonders and I think about my to do list, what I want to eat after class, and a thousand other things. But being in Mimi's class, I am able to shut down the busyness in my head and spend an hour practicing and flowing on my mat.

It's a pandemic, I get it. But she stared for a few more beats from behind the glass, our faces a two feet apart, looked me up and down, and then reluctantly opened the door and said "YOU are looking for the hardware store. It's 'OVER THERE' ..... there's a *SIGN*" and in a passive aggressive tone that was really unnecessary gestured toward a big sign on the door that directed people looking for Ace Hardware to go nextdoor. I said "nope, I'm actually looking to learn about Pilates," but it was such a turn off that I turned and left. I assure you, lady, I can read the sign. And your judgments about who you think and perceive to be a potential customer was very disrespectful. It says a lot about the biases and prejudices you don't mask very well. Good luck!
