We don't access to our friend's pool this summer so we had to get creative! We finally checked out Clunie Pool this week and went twice because we had such a great time. I wish I took pictures but I didn't. The shallow end starts at 3.5 ft and goes to 10.5 ft I believe. Everyone can go to 3.5 ft, but if you want to go to the deeper areas or diving board you have to do a test to earn a wristband. You swim (the short way) across the pool however you want, you just cannot touch the bottom of the pool. The pool is so clean and feels so fresh. My son I have a bet, we wonder how long it would take to fill up the entire pool with only one hose on full blast... What do you think?? The facilities are just OKAY - it is a large facility, it's is also older (our 82 year old Nonna has fond memories of using the diving board when she was a kid!) but it does the job. Clunie Pool is a gem. It's a nice big pool. Good for lap swimming or leisure. The kids have their own separate area and aren't too annoying. The lifeguards can be a little overboard but I realize they are just doing their jobs. It's a nice spot to visit. read more

I have been coming to this pool consistently for the last 6 years and I must say this is one of my favorites in the City of Sacramento! The pool is always nice and clean and the staff is always friendly. I take what was known as Water Aerobics, and has been changed to Aquacise last year several times a week from Spring through the Fall. The one complaint I have is that although they have a heater and are open slightly before most of the other City pools for the season, they do not remain open through the winter. It's nice to be located at McKinley Park as it has a very family oriented and welcoming atmosphere; however, that being said there is not close parking even if you have an ADA need it's a ways away from the pool. Also, if there are any events going on at or near the park at the time of your class you will be circling for parking. I always arrive 30minutes to an hour before to ensure I am able to park and walk arriving on time. read more

So Clunie Pool just closed for 2011. What a gem. This public pool costs a buck to get in and has everything you'd want in a pool. It's large, generally not crowded, is very clean and manicured, has a nice diving board & a water slide. The showers and bathrooms are decent. Guys with pushcarts sell great cheap ice cream through the fence. (I like the walnut & cream bars - frozen heaven for $1.) The lawn around the edge of the pool area is great for sunning. The teenage staff always are polite but keep a good handle on the kids. In my opinion it's one of our many outstanding public resources, like our libraries and rivers, in the heart of one of the many great parks in Sacramento. read more

I guess I was spoiled by swimming at a college pool, outdoor heated, $6.50 (10 swim card for additional discount), open year round with lockers, hot showers, swim dryer, and a hot tub. I hadn't swum at a public pool for so long and probably it is a standard or above standard. Even it was 28C out, I still felt cold having a cold shower and didn't feel safe leaving my stuff outside, unlocked. read more

Clunie Pool is a classic, beautiful neighborhood pool and gathering spot. It's just the type of pool you'd hope for in an old neighborhood like the Fab 40s. I can't tell you how many lazy summer weekends I've spent here or in surrounding McKinley park. The pool is both large enough for a swim meet and extensive lap swimming or, on most days, divided into sections so swimmers can swim, jumpers can jump and kids can laugh and splash. There is a nice kiddie pool as well. Facilities aside, I do have issues with the lifeguard staff, who seem to have been trained to be overly cautious. I'm all for safety, but when I, a grown man and expert swimmer get scolded by a teenage lifegaurd for holding my breath too long underwater because it's a "breathe game," things are starting to border on ridiculous. Not to mention kids are no longer allowed to dive and apparently it's a no-no to lift my baby above my head when in the water. Micro-managed swimming aside, it's still a place I will continue to enjoy for hopefully decades to come. My son is just old enough to swim and I look forward to this being the place he develops his skills. read more

This pool was fantastic and such a life saver. After visiting Sacramento for the day and seeing the dirty pool my hotel had, I was frustrated that I couldn't go swimming on such a hot day. Then I researched community pools in the area and found this one. It was fantastic!! Things to keep in mind: -- Entry fee was $2.00 for adults -- Bring your own towels; they don't have any for sale or to rent -- At first the pool was a bit hard to find, park anywhere near the front entrance of the clunie community center, but take the path to walk around the left of the front entrance and the pool is in the back...the pool isn't visible from the street, we drove a full circle around the community center and couldn't find it at first. Just park near the front and walk around the left of the bldg on the outside and you will then see the "pool" sign on the outside of the brick building. read more

I've got a membership at Capital Athletic and love their water fitness class. But I want more, more, more. And they close, close, close for a couple of weeks every August. Stopped by Clunie, my neighborhood public pool, to check out their water aerobics class. What a hoot! The teacher that night was a buff dude with marine corps-like tats who regaled me and the gaggle of mostly one-piece suited ladies with total 80s rock: AC/DC, Van Halen, Foreigner! Remember "Double Vision?" Wow, haven't heard that since, well, it's a little fuzzy. He was not afraid to use pool noodles and marched us around the pool, urging us to pick it up. Some were flagging, some stayed in. A great workout and no sweat afterwards. Only $4/class or cheaper if you buy a punch card. T/TH at 6:30. The pool and surrounding area is clean and well-kept. Probably a great place to hang out on not-so-crowded days. I'm going back. read more

I feel like Esther Williams when I swim here! It's glamorous. Clunie Pool is a bargain. It's only $1 per swim, or $3 per lap swim, but only $35 for 20 swims. There is always plenty of room for lap swimming. You might see me here on Sunday afternoons! (Could I say swim more times?) Wow. Thank you SaveMart for keeping this pool open in 2012. I love coming here. I live just outside the Grid, and don't have a pool of my own. For $2 I can swim on the weekends, for $3 (and purchasing a pass) I can go to water aerobics 4x a week. The lifeguards keep things on the up & up. The people that come here are laid back. There is a very large kiddie pool that is separate for the little ones. Grassy area to lie down in. Awesome! read more

The pool itself is perfect and beautiful, and it doesn't even get too crowded for lap swim. The facilities are shockingly sparse. There is a gigantic women's locker room with literally nothing in it at all. There is not a single mirror. There is no hot water in the showers - ever. There aren't even doors on the toilet stalls. But I don't want to complain too much because this is pretty much the only game in town for outdoor lap swimming. I wish it were open all year. It's $5 per swim, which is kind of crazy, considering there isn't any hot water or facilities of any type whatsoever, just a pool and that's it. read more

This pool was very clean. The building looked historic and in good condition. Only paid two dollars to swim. Bring your own towels. The pool is located behind the building where the library is located. I will definitely come back the next time I visit Sacramento. read more

What can I say? I love this pool because of it's location, cheap admission fee ($50 for a 20 visit lap swim pass), and hours of operation in early mornings and evenings. Bathrooms are pretty bad because of age. And they're open only in the summer. They say it becomes cost prohibitive to operate in the cooler seasons. Someone from City Parks and Rec should hold a fundraiser. I bet enough people would pitch in for a pool heater. Four stars until then. read more

Writing this review on a cold January night brings back warm memories of Clunie Pool on a hot July day. It is cheap to get in, around $6 from memory and it is a fun way of spending a few hours. We spent much of my time filming slow motion videos of the wife and I coming out of the slide by the deep end and splashing into the water. I later joined the proper swimmers who were doing laps in the lanes set up later in the afternoon. Loved the place and will be back next time I'm in Sacramento in warm weather. read more

i love the slide but i got a huge bruise on my elbow so i wish there was a warning about that but too late live and learn it's so fun! nice big pool and nice wading pool too. i like to lay on the little grassy hill and sweat the summer days away at the pool. read more
