Fun climbing gym in Sacramento! This was my first time bouldering in a long time so I was excited to check out Pipeworks. We visited on a Thursday morning and it was not too crowded. Lots of parking available. Adult day pass costs $30 and shoe rentals cost $4. The climbs were challenging! Went with a more experienced climber and even they said the v1 routes were closer to a v3. That said, we had a great time. The staff clean the walls often and the gym has a lot of other facilities, including top-rope climbing walls and a weightlifting room. Would come back!

Great place for any experience of climbing! Friendly staff, fresh air, rentals if needed

As part of the Touchstone gyms, I love this place when I come to Sac! For bouldering there are multiple walls, but only 1 section tops out. There is no full overhang but there are plenty of inclined routes. The walls go pretty high (at least in my opinion) but definitely doable! In comparison to Dogpatch, I would say Pipeworks routes are a big tougher.

Great experience for a youth private lesson with Carly! We were in town for our son's basketball camp and decided to set our daughter up for a last minute private rock climbing session. First of all - Pipeworks is unique in offering such a thing for a 9 year old with no prior experience with just 2 days notice. There are different prices depending on member/not and age. I don't have much experience with comparative prices but our daughter left SO happy it was well worth it. Secondly, the gym itself is astonishing. The size and scale has something for everyone. This was cool because our daughter was able to start off on a moderate sized wall and ended up on one of the tallest walls they have. Lastly, the staff, ESPECIALLY CARLY!!, were professional and kind. I've read reviews of nonchalant attitudes at other gyms and we did NOT experience that at all. I can't speak for what it's like to be a member there but for our impromptu session it was fantastic.

Today was my first time at this gym and it was amazing! The space is epic, so many climbing options as well as other fitness offerings. Plus, the customer service was A+! Kinsey and Carley were so welcoming and made me feel right at home. I did a private session with Carly, which was really helpful. We focused on ropes and belaying. She's a great coach and instructor. I learned a lot and walked away feeling confident. I will definitely be back down to visit this gym and take advantage of some more personal coaching from both Kinsey and Carley! Thank you guys for a great morning!

This place is super fun!!! My only complaint is take the class or pre-learn your 8 knot and belaying because you will waste time trying to practice and learn it. You will get tested on it before you can start climbing. And you'll get asked the safety features. Those videos are not as helpful as if there is a live person showing it to you. Other than that, this was a great place to exercise and do something different and exciting. Your arms do get really sore the next couple of days.

This place was so much fun! Definitely recommend if you want to do some indoor rock climbing. You will have to learn how to tie the knot so allow additional time for that as well. The staff there was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely come back again.

Ask the Community - Sacramento Pipeworks

    Are there lockers?

Yes there are. Inside of each of the gender specific restrooms near the blue mats to the left of the entrance when entering.

Are there any auto belays available?

Sadly we do not have auto belays at our location

Is there a weight limit for the harness?

No weight limit, it more of a fit concern when sizing harnesses

Are there any gender-inclusive restrooms / locker room areas?

Not specifically that I know of, but also I don't think there are any "official" policies. Regardless, the bathrooms have plenty of little corners and covered changing areas so you should feel pretty safe.

Do they have vending machines or snack bars?

Hi Nina, We sell snacks and drinks at the front desk.…

Beautiful indoor bouldering gym in the middle of Sacramento…read more Parking: free with plenty of spaces in the complex. The facility is easy to find with large signs on the building and entrance. Restroom: generally clean, with 3 stalls per gender and locker rooms available. Soap was not refilled in one of the restrooms during my visit. I've climbed at many gyms before, but this location stood out because of a very strong odor upon entering. It was much stronger than the typical "climbing gym smell." The receptionist mentioned it was likely from climbing shoes. The gym may benefit from improved ventilation and deeper sanitization/drying of rental shoes. Plenty of activity areas: kids climbing section, routes with various difficulty levels, grip exercise area, weightlifting area, cardio area, one ping pong table, bar area, and open seating/storage spaces for belongings while climbing. The routes are color-coded by difficulty: green is the easiest, followed by blue, up to black for the hardest routes. Some gray holds appear to function as safety/additional assistance holds that can be used if needed. They also host college nights with student discounts. Members can bring one guest for free, and rental shoes are $5. Else adult day pass is $30. Overall, a good bouldering gym with lots of amenities and climbing options, though ventilation and shoe sanitation could be improved.

Lots of space and chairs. Our group had a nice location set up for the event and multiple staff members to help out the littles. This place also has a cafe and some beers on tap which is just another awesome addition. Bathrooms were clean and they also had locker rooms. Add to the equipment they had around and this is really great place for workout or exercising. One final thing is that they allow outside food, so for events you just pay for that and all the food and drinks are up to you. Quite an awesome place for a group team building event!

Remember those days in the playground and their climbing structures? Well, as an adult, The Peak is the place to reignite that hobby and enjoy the sport with a rich community of professionals and enthusiasts. This huge facility is shared among The Peak's climbing structures, an indoor volleyball court, a casual restaurant, and a small arcade. There aren't many parking spots up front but around the back of the building, you'll see plentiful spots. Once you enter the building, head to the left through the glass doors where you'll see the many climbing walls speckled with multiple colored protrusions. The pricing is transparent and it's all available upfront. They do have day passes, multi-visit passes as well as memberships that will waive your entrance fee. In addition to the entrance fee, you may also be required to pay for the harness and shoe rentals (members get a discounted price). They also have chalk for the more advanced climbers. If it's your first time, consider completing the waiver online ahead of time. You may be asked to go through a quick orientation regarding the use of their auto-belay system, however if you already know how to belay traditionally, they may ask you to go through additional training just to be sure. Each wall seemed to feature a variety of colors to distinguish the different difficulty levels for more advanced climbers. Aside from the walls, they also have a huge structure designed for bouldering with a thick padded floor underneath. The boulder and auto-belay walls seemed the most popular but it didn't seem there was much waiting given the ample space in the facility. There was certainly enough climbing space for everyone. As a novice, the activity was fun and tiring; there's definitely a balance between technique and strength! Despite having entry for the whole day, we definitely were tired out within an hour of constant climbing and by hour two, it was just about time to leave and refuel. Fortunately, the location of this space is quite convenient due to having a restaurant right on site as well as its proximity to the highway and other eateries just a few minutes away. The staff were friendly and informative. Besides the initial onboarding, there wasn't much interaction with them. They seem to keep things organized, cleaned and well-maintained. Overall, The Peak does a fantastic job introducing the sport of climbing to the local community and providing a clean and safe environment for newbies and experts alike. The price is reasonable for an all day activity and even more so if you become a member. For kids, they also have camps to build a new passion and train them up as climbers. For the more serious climbers, you may want to consider investing in the equipment to further save on the rentals. If this is a new challenge for you, take the opportunity to get in on this sport! The Peak makes it relatively easy to pick this up and continue leveling up with each visit!
