Our brand new car with 700 miles got a flat tire on 135th Street & Rockaway turnpike this past Sunday. Mercedes Manhattan was closed on Sunday. Clutch towing came on Sunday towed the car on a flat bed and brought the car to Manhattan Mercedes on Monday morning. The driver of the tow truck was a polite, respectful, careful and a very kind person. The driver waited the five minutes until Lyfte came to take us home and calmed us down. Typical unethical towing company taking advantage of people's misfortune or mistakes. Refused to retrieve or let me retrieve my registration from my car, while holding it over me that I could not present it to them. THEY had it. They had towed it to an unknown lot somewhere other than the trailer in a small parking lot that they call their office. First, told me card or cash was ok, but card would involve a fee and that they would not give a receipt until after they TOW my car to me so I can get my registration and show it to them. I decided to pay cash but to film myself giving it to them for proof in case they tried to steal it, since I had read terrible reviews about them scamming people. He became irate that I dared to film, and pointed to a sign I hadn't seen, prohibiting filming, among the many signs plastered around the front of their trailer. I offered to delete the video and apologized and asked to pay with card. At that point he demanded my title (which was hundreds of miles away) and was telling me he wouldn't give me my car at all otherwise because I had acted in "bad faith". As if I had any reason to have faith in these people. I said something about the reviews I had seen, and he said they were old and that was under new management. Well, here is a fresh new review. They're still as bad or worse than they have ever been. After a long back and forth, during which I managed to remain polite and was trying to find a way to get him to work with me, he finally randomly decided to "let" me pay cash. Just as I was about to give up and leave and figure out how to get my title mailed to me, even though I had plans to drive out of NYC that day. "Just gimme the cash bro". As if he just wanted to see me squirm and hold his "power" over me until the last second. Then acted like he was being a really nice guy by letting me pay cash to get my car. They charged a "pull out" fee, doubling the legal limit allowed for the tow. A second tow I didn't need or want. Would not let me simply drive my car out of the lot. The receipt shows that they put part of the $250 I gave them toward the taxes that were added to the $125 tow. Presumably the legitimate one. They did not add taxes on the remainder (125 minus the taxes added to the first), which was written on a second receipt. Smells like tax evasion. They had not recorded the tow with the precinct until the day after I was towed (unless the officers were lying the MULTIPLE times I called to check on it all day and night, trying to figure out where my car even was). Dude claimed they had recorded it 15-30min after the tow (as is required by law). They did not have an officer's name in their towing report (as is required by law). I had a full day to research the company's reputation and NYC towing laws before going to get my car, or I may not have audio recorded the entire conversation or hesitated to give them cash without video proof. The bad faith was earned. I paid their extortion to get my car, and I've filed a complaint with NYC DCWP. read more

If you're sent here or somehow find yourself needing services they claim to provide, please go literally ANYWHERE else!!!! Horrible, terrible and just straight up liars. They were supposed to come give me roadside assistance via my insurance, within 45 min. I waited well over an hour before my insurance company checked in with me to see if they'd arrived and I told them no had. Moments later, they must've asked them for an updated ETA, and the link I was tracking their arrival through updated and said they'd arrive within another hour! I immediately called my insurance company to ask them to call Clutch Towing so that I could get a better idea of when they'd arrive, Clutch Towing Inc. told my insurance company they'd be there in another 1.5 hours!!!! Mind you, this all happened at 5/6am on a Saturday morning (when I made my roadside assistance request), so it's not like It's not like there was any traffic on the roads!! The roads were definitely clear and empty, so no reason they would ever be so late. They're clearly just hungry for any business, even though they can't or won't make it to the scene in a timely fashion. They have no care or consideration for the customer. Just stay far, far away!! After this ordeal, I asked my insurance company to transfer my request to a different company, and they did. Maybe you can try to do the same if you end up in a similar situation and they're the provider you're assigned to. By the way, shortly afterwards, while looking them up, I found a news article published to the News 12 Brooklyn website just a weeks and a half before this happened. The article pretty much states that this company regularly engages in shady, illegal business practices. So again, another MAJOR reason to stay far far away from this business. WARNING - Avoid this tow company at all costs. This was one of the worst and most disturbing experiences I've ever had with any business. The entire situation felt predatory from start to finish. First, they completely misled me about pricing. I was told one price, but once they had my vehicle the amount suddenly jumped. For less than 24 hours they tried to charge over $400 in additional fees that were never clearly explained beforehand. It felt like a classic bait-and-switch. They also claimed their credit card machine "wasn't working," which put pressure on me to pay in other ways. That alone felt extremely suspicious. The behavior of the staff was aggressive, unprofessional, and honestly intimidating. The employees appeared disorganized and possibly under the influence of something based on how they were acting. Instead of handling the situation professionally, they were rude, confrontational, and verbally abusive. At one point the interaction became threatening, and I felt I was being treated unfairly and disrespectfully. No customer should ever have to deal with intimidation or hostility just to retrieve their own vehicle. Overall, the entire experience felt like they were trying to take advantage of people who are already stressed because their car has been towed. Between the misleading pricing, pressure tactics, and aggressive behavior, it felt more like extortion than a legitimate service. If you value your time, money, and peace of mind, I strongly recommend staying far away from this company. I will also be reporting this experience to consumer protection authorities so there is an official record.Because of this experience, I will also be filing formal complaints with the New York City consumer protection authorities and other relevant agencies so this behavior can be investigated. Like everyone else in the reviews that has interacted with this joke of a business, I was severely overcharged and treated poorly by the workers. A service that I was originally told would be $270 suddenly became close to $400 when I went to pick my vehicle up. I asked for a receipt, and they gave me some random piece of paper that gave no explanation of costs nor had a company name. When I asked for a better receipt with information, he yelled at me and told me to "get the f-- out". Never got my car towed by them but witnessed something very disturbing. As they were towing a car across the street from my house I witnessed them tear off a piece of a plastic part of a car and then they tried to kick it under my car. I went outside to tell to kindly pick it up because I have them on camera doing it, he did and then proceeded to curse me out as he was driving away. He seemed very young and probably scared to say it to my face that's why he did it as he was pulling off. On Saturday, June 22, Clutch Towing towed the vehicles of ~20-40 families, many there for the annual Mermaid Parade event at Coney Island from a private parking lot. When contacted, the towing company demanded $250 to paid in cash which had to be physically handed over to tow truck drivers in the parking lot before drivers would retrieve your car -- because it was the weekend. This is in spite of a verified Yelp page citing they accept credit cards and are open 24/7 and truck signage. This is also in spite of the posted sign which stated that the Release Fee was $125 + tax with a drop fee of $62.50 + tax. When I asked why the cost of $250, I was told the line "any special equipment needed such as dollys, go jacks additional charges will apply." My car is a 2014 Volkswagen Golf, which to my knowledge does not require additional special equipment. Over the phone, I requested an invoice of the charges, which I was told on the phone said would be given to me once I paid. However, the driver in the car demanded cash payment and offered no receipt or invoice. When requested, he said it would be brought with the vehicle. Instead, when the driver brought back my vehicle, it was left in the street, outside the parking lot, in the middle of traffic during a downpour. The towing truck driver detached my vehicle and began driving away. I ran after the tow truck and asked about the invoice. The driver said that he had no invoice because the office was closed on the weekend, despite 10 minutes ago saying the invoice comes with the vehicle. The driver collected my email address while rolling up the window of his car and drove off while I tried to verify the information. When I called the central office, they said the invoice would be emailed Monday (note: I doubt they collected emails from the 20-40 other families whose cars they towed). On 3/4/25 my car was towed by Clutch Towing for expired registration. The towing isn't the issue, it's everything they've done since then. If I could give negative negative stars I would. At first I just needed a receipt but now, I'm taking this personal. Timeline-- 3/4: My car was towed from an apartment building 3/7: I go to Clutch Towing at 504 Remsen Avenue to retrieve my car. I'm told that my total is $630 and that I incurred a daily fee of $45. I wasn't given an invoice or any breakdown of why the price was so high. I had no choice but to pay to avoid an extra $45. I asked to pay with my credit card. I was told that the credit card machine was broken and my only option is cash. I had to go to an atm a block away and withdraw $400 (I exceeded the withdrawal limit) then I had to go to the dollar tree across the street to get cashback 3 times (the cashback limit is $50). I had $100 one me that my dad gave me for my birthday. So I went back with $650 total but told them I only had $600. He accepted the $600 cash and when I asked for an itemized receipt I was told I would not be getting one because they gave me a discount. I said fine can I get any kind of receipt even if it's not itemized, he stated that if I text him my email he will email the receipt. My car wasn't even at that location, I had to go all the way back home and come back to pick my car up that night around 8:45pm 3/8: I called Clutch Towing asking for my receipt to be emailed and was told it would be by that night. It wasn't. 3/10: I called Clutch Towing asking for my receipt and was told he did not know what I was talking about. I filed a complaint with DCWP this day 3/11-4/7: Clutch Towing consistently denied that they towed my car and stated that I have no proof 3/8: I retrieved footage from the apartment building and sent it to the DCWP worker showing that Clutch Towing towed my car 5/1: Clutch Towing sends an invoice with my FORGED signature stating that the car was released to me on 3/8/25 for $217.75. I have NEVER seen this invoice until the DCWP worker sent it to me today and I got my car on 3/7/25. read more

Picture it. July 2023. It's blazing hot outside and my car is in the Staples parking lot with a giant nail in the tire. I contact AAA and receive text updates letting me know that help will be there as soon as possible. The young man from Clutch Towing was absolutely stellar. Abdul was professional, polite, and kind. Due to circumstances, he was unable to change my tire (to no fault of his or anyone else) and took me to a tire shop literally less than a block away. The cab of his tow truck was immaculate. I explained to him how I was hesitant to go to a "tire place" as I had gone to a different one in the neighborhood a few months ago where the sign said it was $20 to plug a tire. I thought it was a lot but had the job done . . . And then I was charged $35 for it. At first, police told us that this clutch towing has our car and provide us the phone number and address to call. The address is wrong, and whoever pick up the phone didn't tell us the address is old, and we Uber there and we found out the location is closed. We called again, that guy told us the new address this time and why don't he tell us there is a new address at the first place. After we get to this address, no one there and we wait for the driver for 30 minutes. I really can't believe what kind of service there are providing. Below picture still showing the old address.
