I used to love coming to Clyde's as a college student in the Fullerton area. It was a go-to spot for me and my friends. It was always on the pricier side but now...? Holy cow. $23 for a 3 finger combo? That's absolutely outrageous. Especially with the current economical status of Orange County. I would even been willing to pay that much if they gave you more food, but they don't. It's super disappointing and has steered me toward competitors. Like many others have said, the cut and paste corporate replies are truly disappointing and disingenuous. We made the 1/2 hour drive only to be told that they were only serving drive thru. By the time we pulled around to the drive thru, maybe took 3 minutes tops, we seen they took down the "Drive thru only" sign and we were able to sit inside. We gave up and stayed in the drive thru because we didn't want to bother getting out of the car again. We got 2 Original combos and paid roughly $25. Pretty comparable to other places. We opened our box and were met with an underwhelming display of a single chicken sandwich, a sauce cup, and soggy fries. There was nothing that stood out about this meal. It looked almost gray upon opening. The fries were soggy. The sauce was good. Now ... the chicken sandwich. It was horribly greasy. The slaw was average. The chicken was also hard?? There were parts of the chicken I literally couldn't bite into, which was off putting but i just peeled it out of my mouth and put it to the side. Sad to say I didn't finish my meal, in part due to being full quickly but I just didn't feel like keeping the rest as leftovers. Clyde's has been on the radar for a bit so we decided to finally try it. We ordered to go, but they do have outside dining available right now; plus a drive thru! Anyway, since we'd were celebrating a belated bday luncheon our order was somewhat big. We ordered a Clyde's original chicken combo ($11.99) but I added a an extra piece of chicken ($2) 1930's style (habanero spicy sauce) with a shake and waffle which ended up being about $15.50. and original Clyde's chicken sandwich and a skinny chicken ($8.99) each, (2) 3 piece chicken strip boxes for the kiddos ($8.99), 1 mac salad, 1 cole slaw and 2 orders of waffle fries ($2.99) each and another side of Waffle fries ($3.49) (which we didn't get, but I was already home and too lazy to go back) totaling around $60-70ish. Actually not a bad deal. I highly recommend the 1930's blend if you love your chicken spicy. It's got nice heat, yet not to the point where it's inedible. Everyone enjoyed all the chicken. My only gripe is the size of the sides. For $2.99 you get about 1 cup measurement of mac salad, Cole slaw and waffle fries. Plus, we didn't receive our extra order of waffle fries. Parking is pretty limited right next Clyde's itself, but there is more parking along the back closer to the other restaurants. Clyde's is a great chicken joint here in north OC. Wow! All I can say is I'm saddened that I unfortunately have to break up with Clyde's! They were my husband and I's go to place anytime we were craving Nashville hot style chicken strips, and it's a frequent craving of ours. We first tried Clyde's in February of 2020 and for two 3-piece strip combos for both of us, we would spend $26. Fast forward to April 2024 and just today, my husband went to pick Clyde's up for us and it's now $43 for the same exact thing that we got just a little over 4 years ago for $26!!!! That's insanity!!!! They've been increasing their prices every year and they don't do small increases...I did the math and they've increased a total of $17 in just a little over 4 years! When you break it down, that's $4.25 (or a 25% price increase) on average each year. The quality of their strips is great and my husband is not the biggest fan of chicken strips as much as I am but he's always loved Clyde's. It honestly sucks because their strips and fries are great and we would love to continue our patronage but unfortunately, spending $43 on two 3-piece chicken strip combos is just a little too expensive for us and we are so sad that we won't be going back anymore after today. Honestly the sandwich and the shake were pretty decent but I don't know if it lives to the hype of the long line it gets at night. The flavor profile was well balanced. We dined at the Fullerton location on 1/25, and we had an issue with the staff. First, they did not ask us what sauce we wanted. Assuming we wanted the original sauce. Secondly, we tried to exchange the sauce for ranch. Their staff mentioned it was against policy to exchange it since we had already touched the sauce (they all were unopened and still on our tray). We ended up spending $1+ on a small cup of ranch and were stuck with 3 sauces none of us wanted. The next order number was called which was also ours and my girlfriend went up to get it and this time asked to exchange the house sauce for ranch then she asked the employee if she could give back one of the new sauces in exchange for a refund for the one we had purchased as she (rightfully) felt that it was not fair for us to pay for the sauce we wanted and forced to take the sauce we did not ask for and did not plan to use. Why automatically give us sauce we did not ask for and not ask us which sauce we would like? My girlfriend then was given the option to not get a refund and just leave it at that or speak to a supervisor which she did. She spoke to her and after expressing that had we been given the opportunity to choose our sauce we would not have had any issues the supervisor allowed the employee to refund us for the extra sauce. During the refund the employee replied to someone on her headset with something along the lines of"they must be broke" then proceeded to laugh obnoxiously as she handed the money over to my girlfriend and then continued whispering and laughing into her headset as she wiped the tables next to where our party was sitting. I find this behavior very unacceptable and extremely unprofessional. We did not come to this establishment to be insulted and shamed for wanting to receive the items wanted, not the ones forced upon us. On top of all this we tipped after we paid before this incident, which definitely added to the disrespect when we were called "broke". We understand ranting with your coworkers after a long day of work but, doing it in front of customers while laughing excessively to incite a reaction is completely unprofessional, and led us to leave this complaint. Clyde's is one of my favorite chicken sandwich spots, it has it's flaws but overall it's a solid five... Ever since Clyde's opened up at this location, I've enjoyed coming to get a spicy sandwich with the coleslaw shoved in there. It's not as spicy as Howlin Rays but sometimes you don't want to go and wait for hours in a line! It's the same concept and honestly taste wise, I'm going to say it's the same except for the heat levels. The one thing I do not like is the long wait when going through the drive thru. It's not like there is a million things on the menu, or it might be with the Covid regulations, it makes the line longer. It just moves very slow, and not very convenient when just wanting to pick up a quick lunch. Another thing is their dipping sauce, it's the same bland sauce a Raising Cane's! So bring your Tapatio or ask for the Louisiana hot sauce!! One other thing here that I always order is the milkshake! They had so many employees when they were busy. Only a couple now. It was everyone's go to chicken place. No longer. Used to get food for 3 of us for $40. They have jacked up their prices so much. I had a great first experience here, since I ordered and got my food with ease. Got an original 4 price chicken and a naked chicken sandwich combo. The chicken was flavorful, and the crinkle fries were a delight. I got the original spice level, which was the right spot for me. Because the food was good, I went back a second time; however, I had a terrible experience. First of all, I had called the restaurant to try and place an order. The employee said I couldn't do that and could only do that online. Why are you making it difficult for your customers?? I had checked out the online ordering beforehand, but didn't see an option to pick the sides for the family pack, so I called. He said I couldn't pick my sides, and the default is only mac and cheese. (Also, they said I couldn't mix and match spice levels in the family pack the first time I came around, and I saw a yelp review where someone was able to do so.) I relinquished and ordered online, which allowed me to input a pick up time. I arrived at the restaurant about 8 minutes after my pick up time, and the order still had not been ready. The cars going into the plaza were spilling out on the street, making it hard to get to a parking spot. After checking up with the employee on the order inside, they said the order would be out in 5 minutes. 5 minutes my a**. Got the order 20 minutes later, aka about 30 min after my pick up time, which is when the food should be ready. By the time I got my food, the car before me (when I turned into the plaza) in the drive thru was almost done with their order. Why did my order take a ridiculous amount of time, especially when I had preordered? Truly unacceptable. Will not be coming here again. I am also uncomfortable dining here, since they don't seem to take covid regulations seriously. One of the employees gave a customer a fist bump and proceeded in touch customer orders without changing gloves. How unsanitary. Also, some of the indoor patrons who got up to refill their drinks and whatnot didn't put on their masks, which endangered everyone in the waiting area. Especially since their indoor shop is very small and confined. The food also didn't taste as good this time around. The bread in the early bird was hard, and the strawberry shake was horrendous. The family pack advertisement caught my attention especially as the price seemed extremely reasonable for the portion. Ordered the Family Pack ($25) online for pick-up which consists of two original chicken sandwiches, 4 pieces chicken strips, 2 mac salads and 2 crinkle cut fries. The food is packaged in a catering tray with four sauces. Selected to have the chicken sandwich at the original spice level (2 fire signs) and the strips at the hot as cluck spice level (3 fire signs). The original unfortunately did not have much heat, but i did enjoy the flavor of the hot as cluck on the strips! Mac salad was subpar, could have used a little bit more flavoring. Service is good. Although it was a long wait, it's understandable given this pandemic and the restaurant making these orders fresh. We were the only car in the drive thru so it is not crowded at all for them to mess up our order, but they did. I didn't check my order so part of it is my fault? Well, we order fries, they didn't give it to us. I also order the original sandwich hot as cluck and I not sure what I get (see picture to judge). It two flap of chicken on a toast, I thought it was strip but it doesn't look like strip so who know and it not even spicy. So I was very disappointed. As for the food, the food is average. I def think the chicken tender combos are the way to go - you get big, juicy tenders, buttered toast on the bottom and a side and drink for a pretty decent price! Hubby and I usually share the 4 piece tender combo and it's a good sized meal for both of us.
