Going with 5 stars. Some of you may not agree. But here is my why. The French fries. They are crisp and not only which is not easy. The pastrami is your standard French roll with mustard and pickles. Thin sliced pastrami. Here is why it was fabulous. The roll was toasted on the grill. Mustard cover the entire surface and was probably spread on not squirted on. Plenty of pickles but not so much to take away from the star. The pastrami was probably in a pot stewing in au ju - but when served it was grilled for a bit. So the end result a fully packed pastrami that doesn't fall apart and won't drip all over the place. Service is friendly. Atmosphere is humble and clean. Do your self a favor and support a locally owned biz. Your taste buds will thank you. read more

I've been coming here since they opened and have always appreciated seeing many of the same employees over the years. The staff is friendly, and the food is usually great. Recently, though, I've had a couple of disappointing experiences. The drive-thru menu showed a different price than what I was charged, and the posted price wasn't honored or updated. Another visit, my food was burned and unfortunately I couldn't return because I was already home. These issues aren't deal-breakers, but they've made me visit less often. I still enjoy the food and hope they get back to the consistency that made this one of my favorite spots. read more

I drove by and noticed this burger place on the corner of Commonwealth and Brookhurst and had to try it out. It is an older restaurant and was pretty clean. I waited for three minutes or so before I could order, as the cashier was doing a few things. I ordered the Pastrami combo- Pastrami, fries and a drink (refillable). The food was warm and prepared good. There was plenty of customers and Drive thru patrons. I will return. read more

Best chili cheese fries! The Golden Ox is simply outdoing their competition when it comes to their chili cheese fries! They have a drive thru and it usually takes at least 7 minutes minimum to get your food because it's all made fresh. The inside is clean. I recently tried their chicken club sandwich and it was so yummy! They also have great hotdogs. I would compare their coke to McDonald's sprite because it's so crisp and refreshing. read more

Went through drive thru and ordered a cheeseburger, California burrito and Texas fries. Don't get the cheeseburger, the beef patty was SOOO THIN! 2-3 centimeters at best. I would not tip these people at the drive thru. They are sometimes stingy on the condiments and rude. I left a hefty tip and the lady started getting angry when I asked for more sauce. She gave me two small red sauce containers for a large carne asada quesadilla and burrito. What a rip off. Go to George's instead where they treat customers very well. It's too hit or miss here with minimum wage earners that don't even own the place. Of course there's extra sauce for certain people. It's so low class in Fullerton. read more

This is one of those comfort food spots. Sometimes I feel like the non chain greasy spoon where I can get a breakfast sandwich like I'd make at home. But without all the fuss. Something about a bacon egg lettuce and tomato sandwich on white toast. And they also have excellent breakfast burritos. I used to drive past here when picking up my kids from school when they were itty bitty. It brings back nice memories. I did notice that they now have an app where you can order ahead. That's a nice option cuz if you use a card on site they have a fee (idk the fee cuz I paid cash). And because they cook everything fresh, it's a good idea to order ahead. read more

I've been a fan of Golden Ox since the 80s, when my parents would take me to the OG location in Montebello. I'm SO happy the city I live in has a Golden Ox. It's by far my favorite burger joint of this style. You can't go wrong with the burgers here, however my absolute favorite menu on the item is the charbroiled chicken sandwich. It comes on a wheat bun with lettuce and tomato. I ask for grilled onions and 2 slices of Swiss cheese. It's the best sandwich ever! I even got my husband hooked on it. I've been ordering it this way for as long as I can remember. The chicken salad is also great here too and it's big enough to share. I LOVE the onion rings and the fries are lightly seasoned. The breakfasts here are also fantastic. My faves are the breakfast burritos and the Greek Omelet. The hash browns are the best in town. I order mine extra crispy. Service is always great and ambiance is very clean. I will forever be loyal to Golden Ox. read more

Simple, quick, friendly American/Mexican food. Breakfast is what I usually come here for. Portion is generous, and everything tasted good. Cost to value ratio is solid, I would prefer eating here than say the other "D"iner food places. If you dine in, staff will bring the food to you, as well as the condiments. I have not had any issues coming here for the past 10 years, and no real complaint. Bathroom is locked, so you have to be a patron to ask for the code. Note, I have this criteria that a restaurant is as good as the restroom. This place is exactly what you would expect... nothing fancy, dated, and has the smell of bleach and bathroom. It's Saturday so we were contemplating what to have for lunch. I usually like to go out for brunch but wasn't feeling it. Golden Ox is a hole in the wall franchised burger joint located at the corner of Brookhurst/Commonwealth. I noticed they were busy every time I drove passed here. So I wanted to see if it was any good. We arrived a little passed noon and the drive-thru was packed. It didn't take long to get to the front of the line. We ended up ordering too much food for just 2 people. We got the pastrami sandwich, 1/4 lb cheeseburger, onion rings and french fries. My husband enjoyed his pastrami sandwich saying it was delicious. I took a bite and the meat was tender. I had the cheeseburger which was mediocre. You can't expect fresh meat from a fast food joint. But, the beef was very artificial. On a good note, the charbroiled taste helped boost the flavor. The sides: french fries and onion rings were crispy good. They pile it up inside the take-out bag. This could have fed the whole family. They do not skimp on portions. If you want more bang for your buck then this is the place. The food was just average. This was a one time visit. read more

Customer service here is excellent, but the food...not so much. I stopped for a late lunch and ordered food to go. The portions were enormous, which isn't a bad thing when you're hungry but the quality wasn't very good. The rice was old. So much so that the peas were shriveled and discolored and the rice was hard and flavorless. The beans were okay in flavor but, not hot. Wasn't feeling great, it's 101 degrees, so didn't want to make dinner, this place is close so wanted to try it. First thing I noticed is a huge menu. I kept it simple with a bacon cheeseburger combo. I have yet to have a bad meal at Golden Ox. They FEED you here, meaning no skimpy portions. Ive eaten here so many times, I was here when the previous tenant, Bobs Burgers was here. In fact, I ate here when this place was Del Taco, and before that, NAUGLES! Im so old, I remember watching the building being constructed. In fact, I remember the old cafe that used to be here before this building was even dreamed of by anybody. Jack & Maggys Handy Lunch was here for the previous 25 years. Good times.
