From the moment we walked in the door you could tell they don't like black people!!! They weren't friendly they didn't speak this big fat Santa clause looking dude didn't even try to seem friendly. White people were coming in and they spoke all nice and friendly. The dude in the back with the guns was the best part of the store. We then went to Tyler's guns and ammo shop and they are fantastic. We spent a good amount of money there... So people DO NOT GO TO CLYDES!!!!!! read more

Absolutely poor and unprofessional service. Understandably someone has passed away (whether employee and/or owner); however is tremendously unprofessional to shut down the entire store; when you've actually accepted customers' firearms in your possession. The appropriate thing to do, is either SEND THE FIREARM(S) back to the shipper, CONTACT affected customers and advise them/us of the situation and provide necessary alternatives, OR continue to run the store with modifications to staffing levels or business hours. But to completely shut down, and leave a handwritten note on the door and transfer the business phone into a voicemail system with ONLY funeral arrangements is COMPLETELY absurd! Once I receive my order or once it's returned back to the original shipper; I will NEVER utilize this "business" again. The level of ridiculousness and the blatant inconsiderate nature of these acts, are appalling and unfathomable. read more

Called to get a scope mounted I asked when the gunsmith could mount it he said Wednesday but we can do it tomorrow for 15 bucks so I said ok I would like to have the rings lapped and the scope mounted that's all and he said to me in very rude tone what is that and i said lapping you know aligning the scope and rings and smoothing the rings out to make better contact in the rings he did not know what lapping was at that point I said then you don't kno what your doing and shouldn't be mounting scopes if you don't even kno what lapping is what a joke read more

A little too pricey and WAY too much attitude from one guy in particular at the back counter (where the guns are). If I'm spending about $1000, how about a slight bit of respect? I went into Clyde's while I was out browsing for a new .22 rifle for some informal target shooting. I was on the hunt for a Savage Mk-II, and saw that they were listed as a local dealer. So, off I went and ended up talking to Jamie at the gun counter. I told her what I was looking for, and got a pleasant surprise. The Savage rifles go for in the ballpark of $400 new, with no sights. I got to see one, sure, but Clyde's did me one better. Jamie asked me if I was opposed to a used rifle. When I said no, she put into my hands *the* very first rifle that I learned to shoot competitively with in my early teens - an excellent condition Mossberg 144-LS, set up with the original Lyman peep sights. Even better, it'd cost me $100 less than the Savage. It felt right, and we even worked out a decent deal on a variable-power scope to go along with it. For a little more than the price of the bare, no-sights, laminate-stock Mk-II, I got a nice shooter that's also a piece of personal nostalgia, with both optics and aperture sights that I can switch out as the whim strikes me. I brought in an old Mosin Nagant rifle to have a scope mount put on it and they said it would cost $15 per hole to have it drilled and tapped. There are two holes on the mount and they said it would cost $30 total. When I picked up my rifle they said it would be $75 for the work. I said that I was told $30 and they said the ticket says $75 because it was a "special" mount. I said that I wouldn't have spent $75 to put a scope on a $90 rifle and he said that's what it cost. I won't have them do any more gunsmith work for me going forward. read more

If you lie to your customers be prepared to loose them. I've bought one firearm here, price was a little high, and customer service was disappointing. Their ammo prices are good so I continued to buy from them until yesterday. Went in and asked for a mini 14 or 30. "We haven't been able to get those in in 5 years". Every other gun shop in the area had them in stock, and said they have no problem getting them. I don't like being lied to, if they didn't want to order it for me and make money than they just should have said that. I found my mini 30 at Fox's firearms in Columbia and at an amazing price. I like this place. I've been visiting Clyde's for 20+ years after being introduced to it by my dad, who had been going there for almost as long. This is not a big shop and they don't have tons of guns or other merchandise, especially when you compare it to a place like Continental Arms. I like this place because it's been around for 55 years and they are nice people. I have never had an experience like some mention in the reviews - I have had those experiences at other places (like Continental Arms). I visited on 12/29/2012 and was promptly greeted and helped. I was looking for nontoxic shell shot and Clyde's was the only place close to Baltimore that had it in stock. Angler's had a much larger selection but at almost $5 more per box. read more

Dropped my sons 22 rifle off to have the barrel changed. Two and half weeks later it still wasn't done. When I went to pick it up the employee acted like he didn't want to be bothered and then he had a hard time finding it. When he did find it he said it wasn't done, but when I said it's bent over two weeks to have the barrel changed he looked at me and shrugged his shoulders. That is when I told him give me my rifle and took it down the street to Tyler Firearms were they had it done in a couple days. I won't be taking anything to Clydes in reference to guns I'll be taking it to Tyler Firearms. read more

I bought a compound bow from them last year. I paid sticker price for the bow (which was a great deal - a top end bow out for a good sale price) but I left with much more. The bow came mounted with one of the best auto fall away rests you can buy, already tuned for the bow. The price of this rest was not included on the price of the bow, but due to all the effort it takes to mount such a precision rest ($170 plus $40 tuning surcharge), they made a deal with me. Since the labor was already done, they disregarded the surcharge, then gave me $50 off the rest. I paid retail price for various other things like arrows, broadheads, release etc., but they didn't charge me for any of the time or labor involved in the 3 hour time period it took to customize my bow (adjusting/serving a peep, mounting and tuning a sight, cutting arrows to length, installing inserts, and adjusting the rest and nocks for the arrows that I chose). I walked in, chose a bow I liked with the help of their archery guy Rich, and walked out with the most accurate precision archery packages I have ever dealt with. The people at Clyde's are knowledgeable, helpful, and very willing to assist customers. Especially for archery enthusiasts, Rich is very skilled and knowledgeable in this field, and I cannot cease to recommend him as a professional. To follow up, earlier this month I tried to do some modifications to my bowstring and ended up cutting some strands. I took it to Clyde's, expecting to pay around $75 for a custom string made by Tony, a string-tier who makes strings for various professionals on the PSE shooting team (the contractor who ties all strings for Clyde's). I left my bow at the shop after being told to expect to have it back in 7 days. Unfortunately, a major component of Tony's string jig broke, and replacement parts arriving by mail delayed the repair process. This wasn't a problem for me because I understand that things happen sometimes, but I got a call 5 days after the due date saying that my bow was ready for pickup. I went to the shop, had Rich install and serve an upgraded peep and silencers, then willingly got out my wallet to pay what I expected to be around $90 for the repair job. I was shocked to find that Tony, a person who obviously cares very much for his customers, apologized for his delay (which wasn't even his fault), by not charging me for the string. And as I had put a considerable amount of money into this package the year before, Rich performed the service free of charge. I am not writing to encourage people to go to Clyde's expecting free things, but rather to give the details about my experience with this shop. The people there are honest, hard working, and value your business. They stand behind their products, and provide an increasingly rare level of customer service that cannot be matched in the Central Maryland Region. Please note that I am really never compelled to write reviews for anyone, but I was so positively shocked by this awesome experience to go without doing the right thing and promoting this shop.
