I recently went in for a Long Game fitting with Doug Mcilvain, and it turned out to be one of the most valuable experiences I've had for my game. From the start, the fitter took time to understand my current setup, typical ball flight, and what I was hoping to improve. Instead of rushing into swinging clubs, we talked through my strengths, weaknesses, and playing habits. The fitting itself was very detailed. Using launch monitor data, we tested several different club heads and shaft combinations. I was able to see real numbers like ball speed, spin rate, and launch angle. Doug explained everything clearly and adjusted clubs throughout the session so we could dial in the best combination. I am excited to get the new clubs out on the course and play! read more

I visited 2nd Swing in Columbia, MD, on January 21st around 2:30 PM with the intention of exploring options to upgrade my golf equipment this year, including replacing my M6 TaylorMade irons, possibly purchasing a new driver, and gathering some content for my social media page. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing, mirroring an earlier visit with fitter Anthony Long (I checked my 2021 booking to confirm his name). From the moment we entered the store until nearly the time we were about to leave, not a single staff member greeted us, despite several employees clearly noticing my presence. It wasn't until we were on our way out that a lady near the trade counter finally asked if we needed anything. While I appreciated her effort, it came far too late to change my overall perception of the visit. As someone always in need of golf accessories--tees, balls, and more--I find this lack of engagement unacceptable, especially when considering a potential spend of $1,500 or more. I've had far better experiences elsewhere. For example, my experience at Golf Galaxy in Towson during the fall of 2024 was so positive that I brought my friend Matt there, and he purchased his Scotty Cameron putter. Word of mouth works--his father later went back for a fitting and ended up purchasing a new Ping driver. These are the kinds of interactions that make me confident in recommending a business to others, and it's why I will continue to support establishments like Golf Galaxy. After my second disappointing visit to 2nd Swing, they are not only off my list of recommendations but a place I would actively discourage others from visiting. I'll be happy to give my business to companies like Golf Galaxy, which has consistently delivered excellent service, or Global Golf, which offers great options for purchasing used equipment online. read more

Doug Mcilvain had the expertise and knowledge of the best. I went there for a new driver fitting and he made everything very clear: told me what was happening, where I hit the ball on the face, spin, what he was going to do to improve my shots for a new club, and acheived a one-of-a-kind driver fitted perfectly to my swing which was under my budget. Excellent on the buy side- Terrible on the trade aspect. SLOW, no communication, undertrained "trade team". IF you call they will lecture you on the size of the company, ,market share etc providing no effort to resolve issues. Non- responsive. Take it or leave it message. Seems like they focus on selling and the trade process is a very low priority. FIX YOUR TRADE PROCESS Do not leave trades "on a pallet" for weeks and post credits when you get around to it. read more

I had a Tour Van iron fitting with Anthony and a used driver fitting with Doug. Doug was amazing. Very helpful and friendly. He was able to get me into a reasonably priced driver and I had fun while we were doing it. Anthony was very professional but I'm not sure if I caught him on a bad day or not because he was not very friendly. At the end of the day I am satisfied but "fun" is not what I would use to describe it. Things I wish I knew before going into the new fitting: they only like to do three heads in one fitting. The reason he gave me was that it was to prevent fatigue, but it felt more like it was to keep the fitting moving so he could move on to the next one. I get it. But if I'm looking at dropping that kind of money at once, I like to shop around a bit and be as sure as I can be before I pull the trigger on anything. There are a TON of clubs to try and everyone was more than happy to lend a hand. I went on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't crazy busy. The fittings were free because I bought from them. Next time I'll go with a different fitter. read more

I had a fitting with Kam Smith last week to get new irons. Kam made the process super easy and did a great job finding the right clubs for me. After getting a sample with my old irons, he selected a few options for me to try based on shot style and swing speed. I was getting over 20 yards of additional carry with the new irons. 2nd Swing is an awesome golf store! I first experienced them in Minneapolis and wanted to upgrade my golf bag and set up a fitting with Kevin Kraft in the Columbia MD location. He was super patient as I shanked a few balls at first. I gave him a budget up front and there was never pressure to spend more and he built an awesome set of clubs with what he had to work with. I needed to replace a 4 iron. There was a section in the back that had at least 60 options for a replace of any club. I was there on a Saturday and although it was very busy, the store was well staffed and I had no problem getting in and out quickly. They sell new and used clubs and will buy your clubs as credit toward new items. Give them a shot. read more

Great resource for used golf equipment. However, after driving almost an hour from northern Virginia, it was a waste of time. We were required to make a reservation and were only allowed 20 minutes to look around - and the very vocal "bouncer" made us well aware of that time limit more than once. I understand that C19 has changed things but because you are potentially spending hundreds of dollars, you'd think that this business would be falling over themselves to provide a good customer experience and unlimited time to shop (we've never been given a time limit in any other retail store), but that was not the case here. We did buy a few things but probably would have spent much more if we had not been rushed through. read more

I had a fitting this morning scheduled, and was so disappointed that i left before it was finished. I'm a beginner and didn't have any expectations that getting a fitting would improve my game, but the experience was very uncomfortable. My fitter was rude and unfriendly, did not explain anything unless asked, wouldn't speak above a whisper and wouldn't make eye contact. Getting any engagement or detail was impossible, and I refused to give this location any of my money when I was more than willing to spend it on a set of clubs. Again, I recognize that the clubs and the fitting wouldn't improve my game, but could hear numerous other fitters around me engaging with their clients, explaining things and analyzing their swings and performance, and all my fitter did was stand silent and say "hit again". Even if I bought the clubs he recommended I wouldn't have had any confidence that they were the right ones for me. Very disappointed since I was looking forward to this experience and drove more than an hour to get there. read more

I have been a regular customer at the Columbia Second Swing store since they open and I am a very active buyer and trader of golf clubs. I have been in business myself for over 40 years so I feel my business acumen may be helpful to fellow customers or prospective customers. The one business practice evident at this store, and perhaps company wide- but I only deal at the Columbia store is management's attitude and how they handle issues, it is top notch! If you have any issue and talk with the manager Dan, he will do anything within reason to make the customer happy, and if you have an issue and speake with nearly any staff member if they can not satisfy your request they will consult with the manager. I have a lot of respect for the team at this 2nd Swing and highly recommend them for and purchase, sale or service. BTW i drive almost 30 minutes to get there. read more

My first time getting fitted and I had a great experience with Kevin Kraft. I'm an infrequent golfer and was a little intimidated to have a pro evaluate my swing for clubs. Kevin was extremely helpful and selected a large assortment of clubs for me to try. He reviewed my performance with my current set, then had me try forgiving clubs on Trackman from Ping, Titleist, Taylormade, and Wilson. We spent some time narrowing down my selection, and I went with a beautiful set of gently used Titelist AP1s. The store crew evaluated my current set of clubs for trade in and I walked away extremely happy with my experience and my purchase. I would highly recommend 2nd Swing over any big box store. First time visiting this store on 7/6/19 and I was impressed with the vast selection of used clubs as well as the staff working. Came in with a bunch of old clubs to trade in, was initially undecided on what to buy, but after looking around while clubs were appraised, I realized it was probably time to get a new driver. I found a titleist 917d3 with 8.5 loft in great condition for $170, my trade in value was $160 so ended up buying driver for $10 more. The guy helping me was extremely helpful and courteous (bald guy from Silver Spring). When I go back, I'll probably request that he assist me, just got a good vibe from him. I was unable to utilize the hitting bays, but many ppl were getting their practice in. This is a great store and I will def return in the future. read more

I gave my husband two clubs of his choice for this birthday, and today he worked with David Ko to find a new driver. David was fabulous. He was friendly, easy to work with, and patiently explained what my husband was trying out and why he was selecting each component for him. He recommended a thicker grip to help counter the arthritis in his hands. His final recommendation came way under budget! And, my husband got several valuable golf swing tips to help improve his game. The fitters don't work on commission, so it's a no pressure situation. We only had time for one club today (1 hour), and David made more suggestions before we come back for the second club. Couldn't be happier!! read more

I had a great experience here. They have a massive selection of used clubs. I purchased a $200 putter for $84 like new. I also purchased a used 60 degree wedge and they re-gripped it within 10 minutes. When you pay, make sure that they ring you up for the price displayed on the club. Their computer system tried charging me $99 for the putter, but the sticker on the club said $84. I also agree with Marissa L's review below, you do feel sorta rushed with only 20 minutes due to COVID-19. read more

My dad asked me to write this review because he doesn't know how to write reviews. That's how good the service was from Jim D. My dad was in the market for clubs and we had just begun this process. Jim took the time to talk to my dad and show him a couple options. He got to test them on the trackman. Jim also gave my dad some very helpful tips. Jim's knowledge and customer service made the sale happen. If not for Jim I'm fairly certain my dad would still be using his old clubs. Well now I am officially pissed. I am just getting back into the game after many years off, at one time I was a pretty good player. I was in the market for new irons and was told to get fit, Gary from 2nd Swing was recommended so I book a time to be fit. I went in and was having a terrible time, my hand was hurting and not sure if that was the reason but I hit the ball like a beginner. I told him this was not me but all he could do was analyze the data. I totally get all that, his feedback was I was at that level. So I was given 3 irons to hit and I decided on the Wilson set. I have never been fit before so I didn't know the process. I later learned a fitting takes more into account much more than measuring my arm for shaft length and hitting a few clubs which is all we did. Lie angle should be matched to my swing, shaft should be discussed and we didn't do any of that. This was confirmed when I called back and spoke with the store rep, I did not reveal at first that I had already done a fitting with Gary. Well it was clear that Gary had seen my swing and shots and had dismissed me. He put me in a set but I was not actually fitted which is what I was expecting. It's been 2 months and COVID has made this a long process. I do not want to start all over. So I guess I will play for the rest of my life with these clubs, I have no idea if they are fit correctly because Gary did not feel like putting in the effort. Be aware buyers, be very very aware. I always thought fitting applied to every golfer, even bad ones. I was mistaken. At least with Gary. read more

Received a club fitting as a Father's Day present. I haven't played a full round in over 25 years. I was a bit apprehensive, but the experience could not have been better. Best used golf store ever. They got away from brick and mortars a few years back which was kinda sad. Guess they are back at it and better than ever. Bays open for fittings and for grabbing stuff off the rack to take a swing or two with. True track man launch monitors at this location so you can't get much better than that.
