I have even become accustomed to calling first to see if they're REALLY open. They don't update their voicemail. Today when I called I just got a "mailbox is full" message. So I took the risk, filled up my car with bottles on this very hot day, and drove across town. No open windows. No lights. No sign. And now I've got a car full of cans and bottles. Thanks SPRC! It would be SO UNBELIEVABLY EASY for them to update their voicemail, AND put a note on the window. Maybe today it was the heat. I imagine they don't have a/c in there, and it would be an awful place to work in when its 90 degrees. I get it, BUT HAVE THE DECENCY AND COURTESY TO YOUR CUSTOMERS TO COMMUNICATE TO THEM! It has happened enough times that it is obvious leadership just doesn't care. Now, neither do I.

This was at midday, and I was the very last customer in line. But they refused to take my bottles.

I toured ECO Maine today and I must say it is an…read moreamazing place.when you first enter the lot, you notice bales of plastic, metal cardboard and paper. Did you know that there are seven different types of plastic am that can be recycled. I also learned that until recently we shipped all of our bales of paper to China. They aren't taking any paper now, however ECO Maine is hoping they open up again soon, as they are storing all the paper at the plant. bext, We toured the facility itself and what a remarkable place. You see conveyors moving items arond. You see magnets attracting metal. You see air puffing only on certain types of plastic containers separating them. You even see people hand separating the items. My biggest thrill out of all there dynamic machines was the front loader pushing and lifting recycled items onto the conveyor belt. I just brought the kid out of me as I remembered playing with those Tonka Trucks. As the tour wound down I saw where all the trash ends up. It gets put in a hopper that is six, count them, six stories high. There the trash falls into one of two incinerators that heats up to 18,000 degrees Fahrenheit and burns into an ash. Unfortunately, no one has invented a good use for this ash, so it simply gets put in a land fill. This tour has opened my eyes as to how much goes into my recycles and trash once they leave my curb. I will certainly work hard at making sure items end up where they are supposed to!

We could see there were people there picking up things as well as they drove through. Nice to see some things being recycled for others to use as well. Not sure if that's allowed, however, no one was stopping them. We brought a mini fridge, a dehumidifier a large screen 65" TV, lithium batteries and an large microwave/hood vent and other items that can't fit in the two trash bags. It cost $188. It felt more reasonable than having a trash pick up service come to the house. Glad we had a pick up truck. We don't have a huge need for this service, however, it's great to know it's available as needed. If you go on a Saturday - get there early, the hazardous waste (liquids) line gets pretty long and sometimes can be difficult to go around if that line is to the entrance/street.

I didn't know if it could be moved. John got his backhoe through some tight spots around the house and grabbed the cab and pulled it out. He maneuvered back around the house and got the cab in the dump truck. He then picked up a heavy old engine and 25 tires. They also went back and picked up scraps of metal and the bumper/scraps and raked up all the glass. John and his helper were so friendly and professional and had a can-do attitude. They were so nice and had a great sense of humor and were great to deal with. They did everything for a very reasonable price and very quickly. I would recommend this company 1000 times over.
