It's a shame. The dentists are good. The problem is the office staff and deceptive billing and up sell scams ! They overbook and cancel appointments on a regular basis. Came here because my wisdom teeth were coming in and making me sick. I throughly explained that this was the reason for my visit. After they do X-Rays and everything, they start asking when I can come in for a teeth cleaning and a couple other things that had nothing to do with my wisdom teeth. They mention nothing about them and don't even tell me they should be removed. When I asked about my wisdom teeth afterwords they said they can't remove them because I need to be referred to another "Team". The Coast Orthodontics team. I call the number on the card they gave me and the orthodontics team told me they specialize in braces. They aren't the people that evaluate if you need wisdom teeth removed. That's what dentists are for. After leaving unhappy I call around to other dentists to see if they take my insurance. I had no luck but I talked to another lady from a different dentists office that was very helpful. She called Coast Dental and asked them to send me a copy of my X-Rays and a referral so that I can take them to another dentist. They never sent my X-Rays and never send a referral. Instead they sent a treatment plan from them. Very sneaky and scammy. There's something extra creepy and sick about this place. Think about it.. we go to a dentist because we're in pain sometimes to the point of being sick.. and instead of actually trying to help, this Dentist office straight up ignores your concerns, says forget about those! And try's to find the best way to make money off you. Brainless as they do it cause how are you so concerned with making money that you recommend me to a department that can't even do what you said. For the record.. One of your "Dentists" Recommended I visit the Coast Orthodontics for them to evaluate whether or not I need my Wisdom teeth removed. Yeah, I agree with some other reviewers. Stay away. My cousin, for whom I'm a Medical Power of Attorney, had two appointments made and cancelled. In the first case, she was not notified and I'm not sure if she was notified the second time, but if she was, it would have been at the last minute. So, at least in the first case, she went there and was told to go home. For a disabled person living in an ALF, to set up transportation and an appointment like this disrupts not just the person, but the people at the facility who have to make sure she's ready on time. that transportation arrives, and that she has what she needs to take with her, and that she gets back safely. For one thing, it was impossible to get through to the Largo office by phone. If you call their number and they're busy, you get a main number and are speaking to a scheduler who is not even at that office. And there seems to be a very big communication disconnect between the schedulers and the Largo office. It is literally impossible to get through to the actual office. There were 2 times when I truly believed I have finally gotten through to the Largo office and now I'm told the people I spoke to were from the main office - but I'm pretty sure I was very careful to say both times, "Am I speaking to the Largo office?" The first time I believed I was speaking to the Largo office was when I made the appointment. The person told me they took her insurance and also that the dentist was trained to administer Nitrous, which my cousin needs because of involuntary movements. Turns out both were not true. But nobody told me that until just a few minutes ago. The second time was after she was sent home from her first cancelled appointment. With a scheduler, I rescheduled the appointment, but told him that she would not go to that appointment unless I had talked to the Largo office first, because I wanted to know what happened and that the problem wasn't going to happen again with the second appointment. They promised me that they sent an emergency email to the Largo office and the Largo office would call me by noon the next day. No one did. In the meantime, I kept trying to reach the Largo office. Finally, late Friday, I reached what I thought was the Largo office. The person figured out what the problem was - that there were two clients with the same name and the records were mixed up. They had notified the wrong person about the appointment cancellation. She supposedly fixed the problem on the spot as I waited. She assured me again that the doctor took my cousin's insurance and could administer Nitrous, and she confirmed the appointment for today. I called today to follow up on the appointment and could not get through to the Largo office. I was unable to reach my cousin, but I usually do follow up anyway because she doesn't usually remember next steps. The schedulers said there was no appointment for her today. I mentioned that I had experienced a disconnect in communication between them and the Largo office and that I really needed to speak to someone at the Largo office to be sure there was no appointment and, if so, why that was. Finally, Lynn from the Largo office just called me and told me 1) First, that her records were still mixed up with that of the other client 2) yes, she had been scheduled for an appointment for today, but it was cancelled and 3) the doctor does not take her insurance and I'm not sure if he can administer Nitrous. I have since made an appointment with a different office, but you can't imagine how much of my time all of this took up! Again, I recommend you stay away. read more

I've been looking for a new dentist for a while and this place was great! They were very quick and had me in and out which was awesome since I needed to get back to work! They were very friendly and have taken precautions to keep things social distanced which is cool! The only thing that was odd was that a basic dental visit didn't entail a cleaning they said they ran out of time for that which was super weird since I always figured that's part of going to the dentist and said I could make a second appointment for that. They were also loudly talking about personal issues which was a little awkward and the one girl kept taking her mask off while she was checking me. Considering they're so adamant about not entering without one it seemed kinda odd they didn't feel the same about following those guidelines themselves. Overall it was a great experience though! If they had negative star I would do that. Went in for a crown and ended up with a huge chunk of glass that keeps falling out and they grind good teeth to make it fit. Then they tell me about what a favor they are doing for me in that they charge dirt cheap. Not. They were aggressive and racist. The tooth fell on the floor and she was going to just throw it in. I have 100% coverage for preventive dental care including x-rays, but they started off with a quote for just the assessment that included an x-ray that is what they said "better" than what my insurance covers. I asked for regular x-rays that are covered and they don't offer them. I couldn't even get a guarantee up front that routine dental cleaning would be offered because I might need something different. I made an appointment for a cleaning and when I arrived they did not have me on their books. I then called the main appointment line, the one in which I originally called to make the appointment, and demanded that they put me on the books for that day. All I needed was a cleaning. They made an appointment for later that day at a different location. My appointment was scheduled for 2:20. I arrived 15 minutes early, because I anticipated filling out new patient paperwork; which I did. I was not called in until 3:00. They then started their treatment. First was x-ray. Which took about 20 min. They then when over the billing. Luckily I had a coupon. Then for some reason they set me up in front of a TV for a zoom meeting with a doctor to go over my x-rays (very strange). Then they started the cleaning. Cleaning was ok. Then another Dr. came in to look at my teeth and asked if I had any problem. I didn't. I thought this was weird. Why did I have a zoom meeting with a doctor to go over my x-rays when there was one already there. Then they finished the cleaning. I forgot to mention, I was moved to a different exam chair 3 different time during this process. I ended up leaving at 4:45?! For a simple cleaning. This was the worst and weirdest experience I have ever had a a dentist office. I am 55 years old. I would not recommend coast dental. read more

Senior Citizen Alert! My initial examination included numerous x-rays and a thorough analysis. At the conclusion of the exam, I was given a formal "Proposed Treatment Plan" which included a Periodontal Scaling (deep cleaning) of all 4 quadrants. The cost analysis CLEARLY indicated that this service were to be paid by the insurance agency, with no cost to me. There were also several agreeable incidental fees identified clearly to be paid by me. No problem. During the deep cleaning treatment, the hygienist stated that she would only complete one-half of the process pending an insurance review to determine their actual coverage (Why after half the treatment?). Unfortunately, I was then advised that my insurance would only cover the deep cleaning of a single quadrant, and that the remaining costs were my responsibility! At this point, 2 quadrants were completed. I then insisted that the remaining treatments be dismissed, and further contended that the proposed deep cleaning treatments were pre-approved in writing and to be paid by my insurance provider according to the Treatment Plan. The office manager insisted that the insurance coverages outlined on the Treatment Plan were merely an estimate, yet the estimate clearly proposed that the insurance provider would cover these costs (albeit estimated). It was never disclosed that the insurance agency was NOT consulted prior to the Proposed Treatment Plan, but only after half of the treatment was completed. The result of which is misleading. BE AWARE of unscrupulous business practices! Especially of concern to those of us who are retirees, and social security and/or Medicare recipients, and live on a fixed income. The xray tech refused to give info about the visit when she took me back and led me to believe I was getting my teeth cleaned. She called me "loco" because I asked about why she was putting her same gloved finger in my mouth then going over to keypad and touching with same wet gloved finger from my saliva over and over again then putting same gloved finger back in my mouth (disgusting!). She spoke very little English. After 22 xrays (the Xray machine looked antiquated and who knows how much radiation I got on my head) it was revealed that NO TEETH cleaning would occur at that visit and that SCHEDULING TOLD US THE WRONG THING. They were very non-chalant about the whole thing. I felt tricked and would never had gotten all those xrays if I had known this at the get-go. We would have sent our xrays done 6 months ago to them had we known this and furthermore, we had cancelled our elderly parent's doctor appt for this! (my spouse and I were both scheduled for cleanings) We are very upset over their lack of hygiene, professionalism and transparency. I wish I would have read the first review before going here. After taking 18 X-rays, the dentist told me that unless I could afford to do ALL my dental work ($1200) at one time, he would not help me. First he said because I was nervous about being there and it was "better for me." Then he told me that it's because antibiotics aren't good for my body and I would have to take them twice if I had to do the procedure twice. Then finally it was admitted that it was just a choice he was making simply because it was easier for him. I have never experienced this before and it's a shame because the dental assistant was the nicest person and she did her best. Wife and I have insurance so we decided to use this location since it was closest. My wife went in because she needed a tooth pulled and a cleaning. First instead of doing the tooth pulling they scheduled a cleaning, come to find out they told her the wrong day. Two days later she goes in thinking they are going to pull her tooth but it's for a cleaning that even with insurance is gonna cost $100 out of pocket, which is about the same as you'd pay for a cleaning at any other dental place without insurance. She explained that all she wanted was her tooth pulled and that she should get a free cleaning every 6 months with her insurance, she basically scolded her for "wasting their time" and said if she did it anymore they would put her "on the back burner." First off, they wasted her day the first time, we had to get a babysitter since I was at work, and second she just wanted a tooth pulled and they didn't even submit the paperwork to our insurance for that, instead tried to upcharge for a cleaning that should be included with our insurance. I found Coast Dental as one of the few who would accept the dental insurance provided with my Medicare Advantage plan. Coast Dental looked pretty good on paper, so I made an appointment. The entire experience was just awful. It started by waiting over 35 minutes past the appointment time when they weren't even busy. The chair in the exam room was broken so the back wouldn't go up, so the entire exam I had to lay back in an uncomfortable position. The first sell was a bone cancer screening not covered by insurance. The hygienist wouldn't even clean my teeth and kept pushing an expensive deep cleaning (not covered by insurance), which I've never needed in my life. Finally, the dentist who looked fresh out of school came in and recommended 3 or 4 crowns. Hygienist asked me to sign a form which clearly authorizes all the work. I refused to sign the form and declined the deep cleaning. Spent over 2 hours there and didn't even leave with clean teeth. Yesterday I went to a REAL dental practice instead and got my teeth cleaned. Avoid Coast Dental Largo if at all possible. read more

Only to find out that they are completely closed and nobody had contacted me to let me know that. So, I figure, mistakes happen and I reschedule. 2nd appointment, get my kid pumped again. day before they call and cancel because they have no hygienist on site that day. So, I reschedule again. I get a call yesterday to confirm our upcoming Monday appointment. Get my kid pumped for a 3rd time. The extremely rude receptionist calls to inform me that their dentist doesn't see patients my daughter's age. Go figure, the same gal had confirmed my appointment the day before. My 93 YO Mom got dentures there almost a year ago. She has been back several times due to pain while eating. I called to make an appointment for ANOTHER adjustment and was told they no longer accept my Mom's insurance and the dentist she saw is no longer there. They will not see her unless she pays a new patient fee and adjustment fee. Regardless if her dentist has left they should still stand behind their work. If I take her somewhere else it will negate the warranty on the dentures. I would give zero stars but it won't allow me to do that. read more

Extremely disappointed. I have been going to this dental location for 6 1/2 years. Recently (within the last year) I had to get a crown. When they put the temporary on I had to get it replaced 3 times before they actually got the permanent done. On Sunday my 'permanent' crown popped off. I had an appointment scheduled for today. I had to bring my 4 year old since he was sick at home from school (I had no other option). When I arrived the front desk was extremely rude and said "who did you bring to watch him". I tried to explain I have brought my younger son in previously, but they basically told me too bad. I then went back to talk to the office manager who told me too bad. This has never been a problem before. It was not like I wanted to bring my son, but I had no options. I work two jobs and raise two kids, my 'free time' is extremely limited. On top of everything I was there because they failed to put the 'permanent' crown on permanently! I still have an exposed tooth and am in pain. I will have to go to another dentist since I will no longer go here. I will have to pay for someone else to fix this places shoddy work. However, I will be sending them my bill. read more

Worst dentist experience ever. I called them to set up an appointment and they asked if I was a new or existing patient. I said I was a new patient and they asked what I would like to have done. I told them I needed my teeth cleaned and wanted to see what they could do about some sharp teeth I have that have been bothering me. They said no problem and set the appointment. I waited over a month to get in (which I'm not complaining about) and when I went to my appointment it was nothing but a headache. First it took 3 people and about 15 minutes to figure out how to use the Panoramic x-ray. Then it took 2 people and over 20 mins to figure out how to do the x rays that they put in your mouth. After they finally finished with the x rays the dentist comes and looks at my teeth. They give the usual sales pitch of you need a deep cleaning (which I probably do) and said that everything else looked good. No cavities or any other issues. Then they came up with a "dental plan" for me and told me what all I needed done. I was there for an hour and a half and the only thing that was done was they took x rays and gave me a dental plan. So at the end I asked if they were going to do the cleaning and was told "No. We wouldn't know how long to book since you're a new patient." Then what was the point in asking what I was making the appointment for? Why wouldn't you say we can only do an exam the first visit and why in the hell did it take that long to do x rays and an exam? I have never gone to a new dentist and then be told they couldn't do a cleaning the first visit. They should have some idea how long x rays and a cleaning should take for a new patient in order to book it correctly. If a person has serious dental problems when they first come in then they can schedule them for a second appointment. Complete waste of time and they did nothing for me to ease my discomfort of my sharp teeth. At the end of the appointment when I was paying my bill and they were trying to schedule me for a cleaning I just had enough and told them not to schedule anything and to just give me my x rays so I can go somewhere else. i had a tooth that had an infection and was loose from bad work from a dentist not related with coast. dr. at coast said tooth was loose should come out and a bridge put in . they were paid in full in advance for the bridge. tooth was pulled and other teeth prepped for bridge. dr. said let it heal for 4-6 weeks (good dr. all was fine) . went back after healing time new dr. there ( 1st one left coast i was told by the office) . 2nd dentist looked at the work said that more prep would be needed but let it heal 2 more wks. the day i was to go back to see the 2nd dentist to get the work done the office called to change my appointment because the 2nd dr. didn't have the ok to work on me from corporate even thought they had be paid $2000 + in advance . i had to call the corporate office several times and finally later on that day someone returned my call and said they needed to get one more person to ok the work . shortly after that i was ok'd and the work was done. after the prep by the 2nd dr. i kept going back with pain on the front support tooth . i went back a lot waiting for the permanent bridgeto come in. they put in the permanent bridge over the sore front tooth and said if it got sore i would need a root canal . after several weeks it was getting sore so i went to another dentist in my network not at coast before seeing about a root canal . he said the bite was way off worked on it and all seems fine at this time . the new dr. did say if it gets sore this time a root canal would be needed. read more
