My office visit went fairly well. The office staff I interacted with were genuinely friendly and together they create a calm atmosphere. Arlene took great care of me from helping in every way she could to get me financing for my procedures, to cleaning my gums which is not the most pleasant thing but she was fast and efficient. she also encouraged me to make appointments for my children which I did right from the procedure chair! I had been a patient at Coast Dental in Wesley Chapel, FL since the late 1990's. Sadly, things have deteriorated over the years to the point where I have lost confidence in Coast Dental. There is a constant turnover of personnel, and I honestly couldn't tell you the name of the last dentist or hygienist that I saw there if my life depended on it! These days they are so focused on selling you goods and upgraded services (toothpaste, mouth wash, whitener, etc.) that it makes you leave feeling like they care more about what they can get out of you moneywise than they do about your oral care. On my last appointment for a cleaning, the hygienist arrived over 30 minutes late, spent less than 10 minutes cleaning my teeth, only rinsed my mouth once, and didn't even floss my teeth. I'm very disappointed with my experience at Coastal Dental in Wesley Chapel and want to share so others are aware. I paid in full for a plan that included three regular cleanings per year. When I came in for my third cleaning--already paid for--the office refused to honor it because the appointment was a couple of days past their "coverage year." That felt unreasonable, especially since I had paid for three cleanings and was simply trying to use what I purchased. On top of that, every visit for a "regular cleaning" came with unexpected extra charges, even though I was told the plan covered everything. I never asked for add-ons--just the standard cleaning. Update: I spoke to the office manager, Natalie, who said she contacted their district manager, Cobby B. I was told they would still not honor my third cleaning and that I would have to deal directly with my insurance. This makes no sense, since the service was already paid to them. What does the insurance have to do with a service I purchased directly? This practice feels misleading and unfair. I plan to report this business and make sure people are aware of the deceptive practices happening here. I would strongly advise others to be cautious before signing up for any plans at this office. This was by far the most unprofessional experience I've ever had at a medical facility. The assistants were shockingly lazy and showed zero regard for patient care or hygiene. As someone with a background in the medical field, I was appalled to witness such disregard for basic safety protocols. At one point, an assistant grabbed someone off the floor without changing gloves and then tried to continue working on my mouth. That is absolutely unacceptable and unsanitary. What should have been a quick visit for a cavity turned into a 4-hour ordeal. During the holiday week, as we know everyone is on vacation. My dentist was out of the office and I needed an Emergency visit ASAP. Coast Dental came through for me! I researched and got an appointment within the hour. X Rays to start and everything was super fast. The medical assistant was fabulous as well as the doctor who assessed my gums and teeth after explaining the pain I was feeling. Office staff refuses to run insurance, claims "insurance does not pay anything, you get a discounted rate instead". Tech charged me for a service I did not ask for and did not want (oral cancer screening, claimed it was necessary since I had not seen a dentist in over 5 years, $69 and non-refundable). Tech and Dr. seemed confused about what services were actually offered at the office (first they didn't do extractions, then they do, then they wrote me a referral and now I have to see an oral surgeon for a simple extraction). I was given a quote for an extraction that was $690, which included a $500 bone graft. When I asked for the bone graft to be removed (I did not have one with other extractions) the bill was somehow $300 instead of $190... And once again, they did not run my insurance, which covers 80% of my bill and would've resolved 90% of my issue. My co-pay was supposed to be $5. At this point, I requested a receipt for what I'd been charged for already and left. I will NEVER patronize Coast Dental again, even in an emergency. Today was an emergency and they led me to believe over the phone that they could perform an emergency extraction only to try an upsell me to get a bunch of fillings and the bone graft. DO NOT be fooled by their excellent Google reviews, they are grifters and scammers. Stand your ground and bring up your insurance and they will write you a referral and push you out the door. I am a new patient after a horrendous experience at Sage Dental. I experienced first class customer service at this location.

All in all Coast Dental of Wesly Chapel has a nice nursing staff. The lady that did my cleaning was wonderful Dr. Houda Fakhre gets a 0. Because of her, I will not use Coast Dental of Wesly Chapel or any Coast Dental Branch, and the doctors they hire and the way patients are treated is questionable at the very least. On the 1st visit, she did the percussion test on the wrong tooth on the opposite side of the mouth. This was done intentionally as she wanted to check out another tooth before providing the service I was there for. Doing some research on the percussion test, the dentist is looking to replicate your pain on biting down. I had already explained on my New Patient visit and on that visit, the broken tooth she was supposed to be putting a crown on did not hurt. I also explained the tooth on the other side did not hurt as that was the only side I was eating on as I did not want food to get into the broken tooth. However, she felt it necessary to do the test on the left side. I explained that even the thought of anything hitting my teeth is like nails on a chalkboard to me. I explained even the thought of eating some foods causes me the same feeling. It's not that hitting it hurts the same way scratching a chalkboard does not hurt your nails it's the thought that makes me cringe in mental agony. She insists this test must be done even though I am not there for that service. In this test, the dentist will apply pressure to the occlusal, or chewing, surface of the teeth, first with their finger and then with the handle end of an instrument. Instead, she took the dental mirror and started to hit my tooth. She did it to the 2 separate teeth and asked me to compare. I explained my feeling again and she did it about 4 or 6 more times getting the same response as well as making me the patient feel completely ignored. After she was done "testing" the left side of my mouth, I signed consent and was numbed for the procedure. After numbing the nurse came to collect payment. I then realized I left my FSA Card in another wallet. They advised they do not keep payments on file. I called FSA and they were unable to provide a card number. The nurse comes and says there is nothing that can be done without payment. I leave and sit in my car for about 10 - 15 mins attempting to locate someone at home to give me the card information. Unable to do so I leave. I drive 20 mins home and receive a call from Dr. Fakhre advising she would still do the procedure because I was numb. I explained that I was becoming drowsy and had just driven 20 mins not to mention waiting in the car. It was clear she had no actual intent of still doing the procedure as there were more than 30 mins between leaving the office and getting the call. On my next appointment, money is collected and everything seems to be set. She starts again by telling me that she can only do a crown and while drilling she may touch the nerve and I may need a root canal and would have to go to another doctor. I say ok that's fine. Then she comes over and says I need to tap on your tooth before we get started. I say I would rather not I have explained that I don't like that and how it makes me feel. She insists it needs to be done before she can do the crown. I simply say fine as I am just ready to get this done. She then says she thinks it would be best to schedule me with the other doctor in the office. I ask if they will do the same test. She said yes they will, I explain there is no reason to schedule with someone else for another day when I am here and they will do the same as she is. She then explains because I am upset it's best to switch to another doctor and she tries to set an appointment for Tuesday. I explain I am leaving town for a trip and I do not want another appointment. She again tries to explain my upsetness to me as if changing doctors will somehow change the fact that hitting my teeth with a heavy piece of steel will not bother me with another doctor. I don't even mention the fact she did not do that test on the tooth during the last visit before she numbed me up. I don't know if she just did not want to treat me or if this is just a game their office plays with her patients as I have never seen her treat anyone. I have had about 5 visits to her office and on every visit I hear her tell someone they need to be referred to someone else to have something done. read more

I made an appointment for a cleaning. Got that, A CLEANING. They came in and examined my mouth and told me that I needed $1900 worth of work, after what the insurance covers. They asked me if I wanted to get started on that today. I'm still wondering where did we go wrong, I asked for a cleaning. I would have been sort of ok with a cleaning THEN an exam. Do not go to this office! I made an appointment through coast dentals appointment setter who initially set me up at the WRONG location. I don't blame this facility for that. But when It was scheduled correctly, I get a call the day before my appointment asking can I come in at a different time bc the dentist has allot of work to do. I reluctantly agreed. I have two kids and a job as well as a dental emergency. Unfortunately the time they decided did not meet anyone's needs. I don't know why they think we can just rearrange our lives soo easily. I spoke to them and was rescheduled to come in the next day at noon bc it's a dental emergency and bc of the prior trouble. Again, I'm coming in for a tooth that is already been examined By them pre covid. Day of appointment: 8:21 am. I get a call from coast dental saying they are canceling my appointment, the Dr. cannot see me at all at this location AT ALL. No charge, no warning, no nothing. Totally confused. So I asked, I have a warranty on my appliance that was made by your facility. How is that honored? And she simply suggested to just go to another dentist. That doesn't solve anything! I drove by this place yesterday. It brought back memories of my awful experience there several years ago. I don't know for sure if the staff is still the same, but based on some of the negative reviews I've read I'm guessing it is. When I had my first (and last) visit there it was for a routine check-up in order to then schedule a routine cleaning. I was told I had an "unhealthy mouth". I was told I had to have a certain costly procedures done, which was not covered by my insurance, before they could schedule me to see a hygienist. I knew that was a complete lie. I've always had a healthy mouth, as oral hygiene has always been a priority for me and my family. The only reason I went there was because my insurance had changed and I was looking for a new dentist. Aside from the trying to rip me off, the staff was rude, condescending and unprofessional. This practice is almost a fraud, almost illegal in the greedy way they try to hit patients up for money. It is highly unethical. They keep pushing expensive out of pocket "deep cleaning," and when that doesn't work, and 6 months later, they push the less expensive (but still out of pocket) "gingivitis treatment" - when it is not really needed. I am a healthy adult up to date on my visits and treatments and I brush and floss twice daily, and they tell me - when no other dentist has ever done so - that I need gingivitis treatment. And when I refuse, just as when I refused "deep cleaning" 6 months ago, they tell me that I can't even receive the service of a regular exam and cleaning, which is something I have paid for in my insurance premiums, and when by law they are contracted to provide a thorough exam and cleaning with no out of pocket costs every 6 months. They should - and they will - be reported to my insurance company, to the State Health Department, to the State Board of Dentistry, and to the Federal CMS. read more

I really miss Smileville Dental. The staff was so friendly, quick, and professional. Too bad they are not in my network anymore. This place is right down the street from my house and there was a reason I never went since moving to Wesley Chapel. They are SO SLOW. The new patient appointment is 1.5 hours and that doesn't even include a cleaning. I had to ask/insist on it. Otherwise, I would have had to go again. Ummm NO. Please do it now! Why else would I come here? Just for an exam? That's a waste of time. The hygienist is key in a dentist office. For me anyway. Theirs was not for me. I could tell she was pissed I insisted on the cleaning and refused the fluoride treatment. So she half did the cleaning. Literally. She had the dental/hygienist assistant in to finish it. Like wtf? I have had nothing but trouble with this office since I went there for new dentures.I paid for the dentures in full because they said my insurance wouldn't pay for them. They billed my insurance for the dentures and when they got over $800.00 from my insurance they refused to refund the money. I then had to go in because the dentures didn't fit right (12 days after I got them) they billed my insurance for $360.00 for misc dental charges that my insurance didn't pay. I tried to get the number for their corporate office regarding my refund but the office person said they didn't know the number. Can you give a negative star? I had work done on two quadrants of my mouth at the same time. I was then billed. I called my insurance company and was told they only pay for one quadrant at a time but if the dentist would have done the quadrant seven days apart, they would have covered it. This was something the dentist knew and didn't disclose to me. Nevertheless I have been trying to dispute and pay the undisputed amount for months so that it does not impact my credit (trying to buy a home). Our son was in need of retainers of which we paid for. Didn't get yet. They want us to fly back to Florida to remove braces and order retainers. hmmm. Let me see. Fly two people from Arizona back to Tampa Florida and stay two days so they can finish there work. Pay a real orthodontist to finish out his time with braces and get his retainers. BEWARE! BEWARE!!! After a procedure, they told my wife that insurance didn't cover any of it. We paid 100% only to find out later that my insurance does cover 50%. They submitted our claim to my insurance and my insurance paid them the 50%. Three months later, that money was never returned.
