This was only my first second time getting any kind of wax service, so you can take my perspective pretty much as a newbie's. My technician was Imani, and she put me so much at ease. We chatted during my entire appointment, and she was both professional and detailed while still being warm and friendly. I highly recommend her. The waiting room has massage chairs for patrons to sit on, and the technicians table during my appointment was also an electric massage table, so My body was getting that extra feedback the entire time. Both the fellow who checked me in and the woman who checked me out were professional and friendly. The wait to get to my appointment was maybe a minute. The whole thing was perfectly quick. IMPORTANT: First time clients need to pay a deposit before their appointment to hold their spot or else their appointment will be canceled. The office calls people the day before to get a card payment or cash app transfer to make the deposit, but I missed that call. I didn't remember seeing this policy on the website, so I was surprised when I got an email about my appointment being canceled, but I gave the office a call, someone was able to pick up right away, and we got it taken care of and my appointment time was still able to happen. The shop is on a small corner lot, so parking maybe tricky, but I didn't have a problem. I will say, when I had previously passed the shop, I thought that its name was Brazilian wax, because those are the largest words on their signage, so that might be a little confusing when you arrive for the first time. The shop also has some different deals available, and the pricing seemed good to me. I would highly recommend In the City Wax for waxing! I visited this place on Friday around midday. I had been there once before, a long time ago, and…read morenow I remember why I never went back. This visit was so horrible. There was no wait, which was nice, but everything went downhill once the service started. When the esthetician walked in, I immediately told her I had one request that she not snatch large areas because I'm very sensitive down there. She completely ignored that. The first red flag was when she put on her gloves and then threw her hair into a ponytail. That was unsanitary behavior! It instantly turned me off. I don't know why I didn't say anything, but I just wanted to get it over with. Then the sugar wax was super hot. I told her again that I needed her to do smaller sections not tiny, but smaller to make it less painful. She seemed irritated by that. When I asked if she could blow the wax a lil before applying it, she ignored that request too and just said, "It's okay, it only feels hot because it's on the skin." It felt dismissive, like she wasn't taking my discomfort seriously. Throughout the service, she handled me roughly and pressed too hard while checking areas with the wax strip. It felt careless and painful, like she had no regard for my sensitivity or comfort. To make it worse, she didn't even let me clean myself afterward she wiped me down afterwards, which was uncomfortable and inappropriate. Normally, they give you a wipe and allow you to handle that yourself. Overall, she made the entire experience much more painful and unpleasant by ignoring my requests and rushing through the service. There's a big difference between working quickly and being aggressive and rude. I won't be returning here. I really hope she works on her attitude and learns to respect customers' requests especially when it comes to something as personal as a Brazilian wax. Let me say, I'm super iffy about who does my brows because mine are incredibly thick naturally but over the years, I have gone to places that assume I want them thinned out. OR, I walk away with a simple "clean up" job and feeling as though I could have done that myself. After seeing the reviews for Waxing in the City and noticing the proximity to where I was, it seemed like an easy choice. Since my appointment was last minute, I was left with either 9 or 9:15 am or around noon when I knew I needed to be preparing for our shoot. So I went with the 9:15am despite being sleepier than ever these days. Surprising to me, I actually got my life together in time and made it there early! This location is set in a large plaza with a number of businesses nearby which affords lots of great parking. When I entered, I was greeted by Brittany at the front desk who was such a sweetheart. She let me know that since we were the only ones in the building, she would lock the door for safety purposes and I so appreciated that. The interior is so cute, filled with lots of products to check out and waxing marketing all over. Brittany guided me back to one of the rooms which was small but not cramped in any way. Incredibly clean and offering an adjustable flatbed to lay back on that was covered with a disposable sheet, it was quite welcoming. And the playlist?! Fire. I don't love waxing, I mean, who does? But this was such a great experience. They use hard wax vs. strips and I truly prefer it that way. Brittany used small pieces of wax vs. longer ones which made each pull gentler, so great. I let her know that I hateeee tweezing but understand it has to happen, and she was quite patient with me and still smooth when doing so. Because I was a first-time customer, I received 20% off, so appreciated it. I'm truly happy with the final result and definitely plan on returning!
